"It looks like it's going to rain!" Li Dapeng shouted anxiously, "Get to work!"
Secretary Jin went to their land to personally supervise the construction, making sarcastic remarks, "I told you the world was going to change, but you didn't believe me?"
“Su Xu, if you lose even the position of team leader, you are even less worthy of Liu Nian!” Secretary Jin shook his head. “What should we do?”
"You're always meddling in other people's business!" Liu Nian said to Secretary Jin, hands on her hips, "If you have so much free time, remember to go check on your daughter! See if she's doing well in there!"
These words rendered Secretary Jin speechless, leaving him stammering, though he was furious inside.
Jin Qiaomei nailed him to the pillar of shame, making it impossible for him to resist.
"Hmph, no matter what, Su Xu is definitely going to get himself into trouble!" Secretary Jin said angrily.
Strangely enough, the sky remained overcast all day, but it wouldn't rain, which made Secretary Jin so anxious that he kept cursing.
After Su Xu's team finished harvesting the wheat, the sun came out again that day, which allowed them to thoroughly dry the wheat before delivering the grain to the state.
"Even the heavens are on our side, they can't bear to see us toiling under the scorching sun!" Li Dapeng looked at Su Xu with a smug grin. "We really haven't suffered this year!"
"We have to thank the captain! Our team's grain is the best growing. After we hand over the grain to the state, we might get a good share!"
While his teammates chattered away, Su Xu said, "I have to thank my wife for this. I just did whatever she said!"
"Alright, we know you have a wife who's a genius calculator." Li Dapeng sighed again. "We're single, so stop showing off."
My mood suddenly turned sour.
Secretary Jin looked grim and avoided seeing anyone. In fact, as long as one has thick skin, who can force him to resign?
“Some people just don’t keep their word,” Zhang Suzhen chuckled. “See, are you behaving yourself now?”
Secretary Jin remained unmoved, closed his eyes, and acted as if he hadn't heard anything. He was just a stubborn person, so what?
What's wrong? Does he look down on others?
...
On the day of the grain delivery, everyone from each team mobilized.
A group of people pushed carts loaded with grain and waited in line.
"Our production team is in bad shape. Today's harvest was small, and after paying the grain tax, each person didn't have much left."
Someone opened their grain sack and said worriedly, "Look at this! My wheat is all shriveled! I don't even know if it's up to standard."
"If we had known, we would have let the wheat grow in the field a few more days. Look at how well other people's wheat is growing!"
Everyone looked at Su Xu with envy, only to see his team members arriving one by one, full of vigor and high spirits, pushing small carts.
When the grain bags were opened, every grain was plump and full.
"First-class grain!"
What? First-class grain? Not only is the amount to be paid less, but the yield is also higher. We definitely won't go hungry this year.
Li Dapeng was beaming with joy. "When I get home, I'll ask my mom to steam some buns! Big white flour buns! They're amazing, the more you chew, the more fragrant they become!"
Everyone's mouths watered at the mention of it; their grain production was low, and after paying the grain tax, they had very little left.
"What? Ours is substandard?"
"Do we still need to pay more money?"
It's true what they say, comparisons are the thief of joy.
Why didn't they let the wheat grow a few more days like Su Xu did? It's too late to regret it now.
With a bumper harvest, Su Xu's entire team was in high spirits and planned to plant a new crop of corn as soon as possible. They left the grain delivery point amidst the envious gazes of the crowd, chatting and laughing.
That evening, Su Xu, with a smirk, pushed open the door to his home, only to see Liu Nian sitting upright.
“Su Xu, let’s talk,” Liu Nian said.
Su Xu's heart skipped a beat, and he immediately tensed up.
