“It’s you—” Sun Wen’s eyes widened, but he quickly gave in.
He couldn't do anything to resist; it would be shameful if word got out. Sun Wen avoided eye contact, not daring to look Liu Nian in the eye.
"I'll wait for you to come and break off the engagement." Liu Nian shook the envelope in her hand again, then pinched it between her fingers and sent it flying toward him.
Grandma Sun hurriedly reached out to take it, trying to avoid being seen by the other people in the ward.
Liu Nian chuckled and left.
The people in the ward had begun to look at them with suspicion. Sun Wen said in despair, "Let's break off the engagement."
Otherwise, Liu Nian would not have let him off the hook if she had the photos.
This was Sun Wen's nightmare. In just a few days, he had become so thin that he was unrecognizable, looking like he was about to pass away.
As soon as they left the hospital, the Sun family went to the Liu family to break off the engagement and found witnesses.
“Then it’s settled. This is your fault, and you’re the ones who proposed breaking off the engagement, so we won’t return the betrothal gifts.” Liu Chuanfang, as the matchmaker, directed the entire process.
Liu Chuanfang raised an eyebrow again and said, "Also, I was your matchmaker. Although you two didn't get together, it was because of you. I can't have worked for nothing."
She simply held out her hand and said, "My fee is non-negotiable, give me the money!"
"Aren't you taking advantage of my misfortune?" Old Mrs. Sun gripped her pocket tightly; asking her to hand over more money would be like tearing her flesh out.
Liu Chuanfang was a reckless scoundrel who grabbed at the first opportunity, shouting, "I'm taking advantage of the chaos! Give it to me now!"
The group was wary of Liu Nian, afraid that she would reveal the photos. Sun Wen whispered fearfully, "Alright, let's give them to her quickly so we can leave."
Old Sun took out the money and didn't dare utter another word.
Liu Nian sat in her seat and smiled gently at Sun Wen, whose face instantly turned pale.
A fate worse than death? Liu Nian stroked her stomach, looking at the cold sweat beading on Sun Wen's forehead. She curled the corners of her lips. Every day from now on would be a fate worse than death for him.
"Pah!" As the Sun family stepped out of the Liu family's house, Zhou Hongyi suddenly threw a bucket of swill at Sun Wen and Grandma Sun.
The stinky soup dripped down their clothes, while flies buzzed around them.
Grandma Sun gritted her teeth, wanting to curse but not daring to. Sun Wen, on the other hand, was already terrified, keeping his head down and not daring to look at anyone, running forward as fast as he could.
"That was so satisfying!" Zhou Hongyi picked up the slop bucket from the ground, took a deep breath, and turned to Liu Nian, saying, "Nian, thank you. From now on, your aunt will owe you her life."
"Auntie, why are you saying this? We're all family." Liu Nian looked at Xiuxiu, who looked back at her with gratitude.
Liu Chuanfang rolled her eyes, but she was very unhappy. Why was no one thanking her? She had also contributed a lot.
"The way you're saying that makes it sound like I, your aunt, haven't helped you," Liu Chuanfang scoffed, turning and walking forward.
"Fine." Zhou Hongyi shrugged helplessly. "This old lady is picking on me."
"Ignore her." Liu Nian winked at Zhou Hongyi and pushed her into the house.
She simply didn't like this aunt.
Liu Nian found some time to talk to Xiuxiu. Recently, she had learned a lot about psychology from her phone, all in order to help Xiuxiu get out of her trauma.
To Liu Nian's surprise, Xiu Xiu was much stronger than she had imagined. She shook her head and said, "It's okay, I've come to terms with it all. Nothing is more important than making myself happy."
"What I fear most is not the pain and suffering I've endured, but that those who made me suffer all this haven't received the punishment they deserve." Xiuxiu gripped Liu Nian's hand tightly, tears welling in her eyes, and said, "Niannian, I know..."
"Alright, stop talking." Liu Nian quickly interrupted, knowing that Xiuxiu was about to express her gratitude again, which she really couldn't stand.
Then Liu Nian raised an eyebrow and said, "Sun Wen's fate was not just that simple."
