Chapter 12 Encountering a Tiger in the Deep Mountains

Su Yan, holding the braised food, looked at the captain in front of her, whose face was flushed with anxiety, and blinked, saying, "Captain, is something urgent?"

The captain realized what had happened, silently retracted his right foot that had stepped out, and instantly resumed his composed and mature demeanor. He coughed lightly and said, "You must be Su Yan? Come in quickly, I was just about to look for you."

Looking for her?

Su Yan had some doubts, but that didn't stop her from explaining, "I made some braised dishes and brought some over for you and Auntie to try. I hope you won't mind."

As she spoke, she placed the plate on the dining table.

The brigade leader had three sons, who separated from the family after getting married and started their own lives. So, only he and Lin Xiuli remained at home. Otherwise, with his grandchildren, Su Yan was really afraid there wouldn't be enough to go around.

What was he going to say? Why did he bring food?

The captain was a little slow to react, but his mouth uttered instinctively, "I don't mind."

Lin Xiuli immediately understood her intention, and a smile quickly flashed in her eyes, but she still refused: "Your Uncle Li and I are both old, we don't like these little snacks. You and your mother have just returned, you should live a good life, don't spend money."

"It's nothing, just some duck parts and pig intestines, it's not worth much. If you don't accept it, it means you don't welcome me back to Lijiapin, and I'll be very sad."

Su Yan looked at the captain and his wife with a wronged expression.

That little rascal.

Even Lin Xiuli, who usually has an icy expression, was amused by Su Yan's affected behavior and smiled. "Alright, then I won't stand on ceremony with you. I'll go get the plates."

Duck and pig offal are indeed worthless and have a very strong odor, so she felt no guilt in accepting them.

A moment later, Su Yan left with an empty plate, smiling as she said, "Aunt Lin, Uncle Li, I'm leaving now. The braised food tastes best when it's hot."

With a "bang," the door slammed shut.

Lin Xiuli was already irresistibly drawn to the aroma of the braised food, and as soon as Su Yan left, she immediately grabbed a duck head and started gnawing on it.

With her first bite, her eyes lit up instantly. She exclaimed in surprise, "This duck head is really fragrant! And the pig intestines aren't fishy at all. This girl has excellent cooking skills!"

Seeing this, the brigade leader also joined in to eat. After taking a bite of the pig intestines, he couldn't stop eating. He even took out his treasured liquor and drank it, thoroughly enjoying himself.

"Didn't you cook these pig intestines before? They're smelly and tough, how come this girl's don't taste like them at all?" the brigade leader asked vaguely.

Lin Xiuli was busy eating when she heard this nonsense and rolled her eyes, not wanting to pay any attention to him.

This was the most delicious thing she had ever eaten in her life.

She had smelled it in the yard earlier, and who knew Su Yan would bring over a plate of it so soon. She had only mentioned it briefly that afternoon and hadn't even thought about it, but this girl remembered it. She's a grateful child.

"Oh, right!" The captain suddenly remembered something, slapped his forehead, and said hurriedly, "I haven't talked to her about university yet! I have to go there now..."

Lin Xiuli grabbed her husband and scolded him irritably, "What time is it? If you're going to talk about it, you should wait until tomorrow. Su Yan can't fly!"

"...Alright."

...

The next day.

As soon as it was light, Su Yan carried her basket up the mountain.

At this time, most people were still asleep, so her going up the mountain wouldn't attract anyone's attention.

Moreover, she didn't tell her family that she was going deep into the mountains this time, otherwise she would definitely have been stopped.

The depths of the mountains are cold and damp, with steep and difficult paths. Such places have many good things, but even more poisonous things.

Last night, she ground some herbs to repel animals and made them into a sachet to hang on her waist. In the basket, there was a piece of braised pork belly weighing two pounds, a knife, and a small hoe.

In her past life, in order to minimize the harm caused by going into the mountains, she spent more than a year learning animal language and interacting with many animals; otherwise, she would not have dared to take the risk so easily.

After walking for an hour, it was fully light, and the temperature inside was getting lower and lower.

Su Yan dug up a lot of Boletus luridus along the way, as well as some rare medicinal herbs. Although they were not particularly precious, they were definitely scarce in pharmacies.

However, she didn't see what Tang Li wanted.

We walked for more than two hours and didn't even find any black goji berries!

Not only that, she also spotted a tiger fighting two wild boars in the distance!

Two species, the one that's huge could crush her into mincemeat with one stomp!

Su Yan nimbly hid behind a tree, cursing under her breath!

"roar--"

Before she could react, two wild boars let out piercing screams, one after the other, shattering the tranquility of the forest and startling birds into flight.

In an instant, she felt a thin layer of cold sweat seep out of her back, and she could even see the tiger viciously tearing at the wild boar, with a strong smell of blood filling the air.

Su Yan took a deep breath and carefully retreated, intending to go in another direction.

Damn it! This tiger was twice the size of any she had ever encountered before, and she couldn't possibly guarantee that she could tame it!

"Squeak—"

The crisp sound came from beneath my feet, amplified infinitely in the tranquil forest.

Su Yan closed her eyes, feeling a bit annoyed.

really.

The tiger, which had been fiercely devouring the wild boar, turned around and looked over, its bloodied jaws bared, its black eyes radiating coldness and ferocity, as if it would charge at her and devour her at any moment.

Su Yan swallowed hard, and as she stepped back, she took out two pounds of braised pork belly from the basket and held it in her hand, nervously staring at the tiger.

The tiger approached step by step, its speed increasing until it finally charged at lightning speed.

Su Yan's face turned completely pale, and she was so frightened that she fell to the ground.

As the tiger drew closer, she tightly closed her eyes, stretched out her hand holding the meat, and shouted, "Wait! I... I have some good food, you can have it all!"

She only felt a gust of wind sweep past her, stinging her skin.

One second...

Two seconds...

Three seconds passed, and the pain did not return for a long time.

Su Yan braced herself mentally and slowly opened her eyes, only to be met with a bloody tiger's mouth!

Su Yan: !!!

After holding it in for a few seconds, she finally couldn't hold it in any longer and vomited violently, her body still in the same position as before.

"roar!"

The tiger growled and took a step back, its eyes filled with disdain.

After vomiting for two minutes, Su Yan managed to suppress the nausea in her stomach. Seeing that the tiger didn't seem to be going to attack, she braced herself and stood up, leaning against a tree. She then threw the meat she was holding at its feet and said, "I'll give you something good to eat, but you can't hurt me now."

She was making gestures that animals could understand as she spoke.

The aroma of the braised meat was overwhelming, and the tiger lowered its head without hesitation and swallowed it whole without even chewing. Finally, it raised its head and snored at Su Yan, its eyes overflowing with dissatisfaction.

"You want more? There aren't any left."

Su Yan knew that the tiger had taken a liking to braised pork belly, so it wouldn't hurt her. She immediately felt relieved and smiled, saying, "I only brought this much, and I don't have that much money to buy meat. If you want to eat it, you'll have to help me out. How about I bring more next time?"

"roar?"

The tiger tilted its head, as if it understood her words and asked a question.

What help could an ordinary tiger possibly give to this two-legged creature?
