Chapter 120 The Fainting Old Man

Su Yan looked at the two sisters in front of her. She had seen how that woman had beaten and scolded Da Ni.

Unfortunately, she was their biological mother, and there was nothing she could do to help.

She skewered the savory pancakes on bamboo sticks and handed them to them, saying, "You two can only go back after you finish eating, otherwise I won't give you any more, understand?"

Dani's eyes flashed with fear upon hearing this, but the aroma emanating from the savory pancake in her hand made her swallow hard.

She finally couldn't resist the temptation and started wolfing down the food, mumbling her thanks as she went, "Thank you, sister."

Xiao Ni also ate quickly.

The two sisters were like hungry wolves who hadn't eaten in a long time.

Su Yan frowned, took a bottle of soda from her bag and gave it to them, "Eat slowly, be careful not to choke, no one is going to take it from you."

Da Ni finished a skewer of savory pancakes in less than twenty seconds, and even drank half a bottle of soda in one go, giving the rest to her younger sister.

Xiao Ni's mouth was stuffed full, and she had to take small sips of soda to get the food down.

The woman watching from the side was furious at the sight, wishing she could rush up and beat the two starving ghosts.

Seeing this, Su Yan took out two steamed buns from her bag and then led Da Ni and Xiao Ni over.

The woman immediately scrambled to her feet, glaring at her warily. "What do you want?"

As she spoke, she pulled Da Ni and Xiao Ni to her side, glaring at Su Yan with the eyes of someone looking at a beggar.

Su Yan threw the steamed buns in her hand over and said coldly, "These two steamed buns are for you to eat, on the condition that you don't lay a hand on Da Ni and Xiao Ni. Otherwise, I will tell the train conductor that you are abusing children. Even if you are their biological mother, you will still be punished."

After saying that, she turned and went back to her bed.

That's all she can do to help. After they get off this train, it's up to Da Ni and Xiao Ni to decide their own fate.

Da Ni's mother didn't touch the two sisters because of the two steamed buns. She curled her lips in disdain, then moved Da Ni and Xiao Ni to a more distant spot, and only after sitting down did she start eating heartily.

White steamed buns? How many years has it been since she's had one?

The person on the bed opposite Su Yan was a middle-aged man who wore glasses and a gray-blue Tang suit. He had a rather refined demeanor.

He sat on the bed, holding a book in his hands, but after seeing what Su Yan had just done, he stopped reading and kept glancing at her.

When Su Yan returned to her bed, she didn't lie down. She took out her half-finished recipe book from her bag, intending to continue writing, but the frequent glances from the other side made it hard to ignore.

She put down her pen, looked up at the man, and asked, "Sir, is there something you need?"

A hint of embarrassment flashed across the man's face as he coughed lightly and said, "I'm sorry for offending you."

Hearing this, Su Yan raised her eyebrows. "I wouldn't say I'm being offensive. I'm just curious what I did that made you keep looking at me like that."

However, she could sense that his gaze was not malicious, which was why he spoke so calmly.

The man hesitated for a moment, but still said, "Actually, I don't think you need to care about them. You can only manage them for a while, not forever. Don't you think it's unnecessary? This is just my personal opinion. Just listen to it and don't take it to heart."

Su Yan was stunned for a moment, then seriously considered the man's words.

The man assumed she was unhappy and didn't want to talk to him, so he picked up his book and continued reading, only to find himself being ignored.

"Maybe I'm just too soft-hearted with kids. If it were an adult, I don't think I'd feel any sympathy at all," Su Yan said. "What you said earlier makes sense. I'd better not meddle in other people's business in the future."

She felt that since coming to this era and having something to care about, her heart had gradually softened and she had lost the coldness of her previous life.

The man glanced at her with some surprise, then nodded and said nothing more.

Su Yan wrote the recipe for more than an hour before taking a break.

The train was crowded and noisy, but fortunately, the carriage she was in was a soft sleeper, and there weren't many people with standing tickets, so she was able to get a good night's sleep.

She didn't know how long she had slept, but in her hazy state, she seemed to hear someone shouting.

"Fellow passengers, an elderly person on the train has fainted. Is there a doctor or nurse here? Please come with me to check on them; it's an emergency!"

Are there any doctors or nurses on this train?

The train conductor's voice grew closer.

Su Yan instantly opened her eyes and sat up in bed, her mouth reacting faster than her brain, "I am!"

"Me too!"

Su Yan looked in the direction of the sound and met the man in the Tang suit opposite her bed, who was also looking at her.

The female train attendant, who was about to pass, immediately braked and reversed.

"Are you two doctors?" the train conductor asked.

The man in the Tang suit said as he put on his shoes, "I am Tian Yu, a doctor at Yanjing Hospital in Beijing."

Su Yan thought for a moment and said, "I'm not a doctor or a nurse, but I'm a medicinal cuisine chef, so I'm practically a nurse. If you don't mind, I can come and help."

She had qualifications as a nutritionist and a traditional Chinese medicine practitioner in her previous life, but she hasn't looked into those qualifications since she came here.

The train conductor didn't care about anything else and said directly, "Comrades, come with me, it's in the carriage ahead."

Su Yan and Tian Yu immediately followed.

She could already see a large crowd gathered not far away.

"Make way, make way, the doctors and nurses are coming, please make way!" the train conductor shouted.

Upon hearing this, the onlookers quickly made way for them.

Su Yan then noticed an elderly man with graying temples lying on the ground, with two train attendants guarding him and a first-aid kit nearby. They didn't know the old man's condition and could only give him some oxygen.

However, the old man's face had already turned bluish-purple, so she immediately said, "Everyone, go back to your seats and let the air circulate. The old man is lacking oxygen, and you're all crowding around him, which will make it difficult for him to breathe!"

Sure enough, her shout immediately dispersed the crowd that had wanted to watch the spectacle.

The elderly man was lying flat on his back. Tian Yu squatted down beside him and examined him for a while. He finally confirmed, "It's low blood sugar. In addition, this elderly man has arrhythmia, so he has difficulty breathing. He didn't eat anything, and the fainting was caused by fatigue and lack of rest. Do you have any glucose?"

"No need, I have some water in my bag infused with Chinese herbs. It's more effective than glucose for the elderly. I'll go get it now," Su Yan said, getting up.

"Wait a minute," Tian Yu called out to her, questioning, "How can you guarantee that the old man won't have any problems after drinking the herbal water you brew? Can you take that responsibility?"

He's a doctor, so I have to be careful.

The train attendants looked at each other in bewilderment.

The train conductor said to Su Yan, "Comrade, how about we use glucose instead? It's safer, and you won't have to take responsibility."
