Chapter 152 The First Argument

The manager's office at Baicaotang.

Su Yan was already a familiar face at Baicaotang. The staff knew that she had a good relationship with Tang Li, so now she didn't need anyone to show her the way and could come and go as she pleased.

The office door was ajar. Su Yan walked in and saw the person sitting at the desk. She asked, "What do you want?"

Tang Li saw that she had stopped what she was doing and smiled, "It's not me who wants to see you, it's someone from Beijing who wants to see you. They've called twice since yesterday. You should call them back quickly so they don't worry."

That one in Beijing?

Faced with Tang Li's teasing smile and words, Su Yan's face flushed, and she said somewhat awkwardly, "You knew everything? He told you?"

Tang Li raised an eyebrow. "Does he really need to tell me something so obvious? You don't know how anxious he sounded on the phone. It's hard not to be suspicious."

Su Yan: "..."

"By the way, when did you two get together? Why did you keep it a secret so well?"

"Just a few days ago," Su Yan said vaguely.

She didn't want people to know about her relationship with Jiang Jingxing so soon, after all, they had only been dating for a short time and it was still quite unstable.

After thinking for a moment, she added, "It's fine as long as you know, don't tell anyone else for now, I don't want to make a fuss."

Hearing this, Tang Li asked, somewhat puzzled, "Why? Are you not satisfied with that kid?"

Su Yan proudly raised her chin and replied, "He's still in the probationary period. I'll let everyone know when he passes. Okay, I brought you two boxes of mooncakes. Go open one and try it to see how it tastes. I'll call him back now."

Tang Li immediately became interested.

He doesn't like mooncakes, but if they're made by Su Yan, he might give them a try.

Su Yan's mooncakes are only three or four bites each, a little smaller than regular mooncakes, but they are not too sweet. However, people who receive them are attracted by the shape of the mooncakes and do not pay attention to their size at all.

Su Yan remembered Jiang Jingxing's number, and after dialing it, the other end answered quickly.

There was a brief silence on both sides.

A few seconds later, the man's tentative voice came through, "Su Yan?"

Su Yan raised an eyebrow and asked, "How did you know it was me?"

Jiang Jingxing said, "This is Tang Li's office landline number. I can guess that."

"Happy Mid-Autumn Festival, Jingxing." Su Yan smiled and asked, "Have you eaten mooncakes?"

"No, I don't like snacks."

Su Yan was taken aback for a moment, then hesitated and said, "Oh, I see. I made mooncakes the day before yesterday and sent two boxes to you, but I didn't expect you wouldn't like them..."

"I don't like other foods, but I love everything you make. I'll definitely finish it all." Jiang Jingxing was overjoyed, feeling a surge of warmth in his heart.

I didn't expect her to send him mooncakes; it seems she misses him a lot.

Upon hearing this, Su Yan's ears immediately turned pink, and she whispered, "Can you be serious for once? I never knew you were so glib before."

She really couldn't imagine Jiang Jingxing saying such things with such a cold and aloof face. The scene was just too alluring!

Jiang Jingxing said in a serious tone, "I'm serious."

Su Yan coughed lightly, quietly changing the subject, "Is there any progress on my brother's case? So much time has passed, and my brother risked his life for the country for so long, only to return and face trial. Isn't that just too disheartening?"

"Ayan!" Jiang Jingxing said in a deep voice, "Watch your tone, you're not allowed to say things like that on the phone!"

His tone was serious and angry, which startled Su Yan, who was then filled with a strong sense of frustration and anger.

"That's it, don't call me again. I don't want to see you!"

Without giving the other person a chance to reply, she slammed the phone down.

The phone rang twice more after that, and she hung up both times with a stern face.

Tang Li, who was eating a mooncake, was dumbfounded. He looked at her blankly for a few seconds, then put down the mooncake and asked, "What's wrong with you two? Are you arguing even on a holiday?"

Su Yan said dejectedly, "What does this have to do with me? It's his problem."

Tang Li was dumbfounded again.

Why are all angry women the same? Not only are they unreasonable, but their words are all equally hurtful.

That's just how his wife is.

"What's going on between you two? Is it about what you just asked your older brother?"

Jiang Jingxing has finally figured out how to date, and he doesn't want things to end so soon.

Su Yan remained silent, her expression growing even more unpleasant.

Tang Li immediately guessed, "His tone was bad just now, right? He was just worried about you. His office phone is being monitored by people in the communications room. If someone with ulterior motives heard what you just said, the consequences would be severe. They could even frame you and send you to jail."

Su Yan moved her lips as if to refute, but then she suddenly remembered something and felt a strong sense of powerlessness.

Yes, she forgot that this was the 1980s, a sensitive period.

So this is her problem; she wasn't careful enough.

Once she figured it out, she wasn't so upset anymore, but she was still not happy that Jiang Jing had killed her.

Even if she said something wrong, did he have to be so harsh?

Su Yan took a deep breath and said absentmindedly, "I'm leaving now."

After saying that, she left the office, no matter how much Tang Li called her.

Tang Li wanted to chase after him, but the office phone rang again.

As soon as he answered the phone, he launched into a tirade of reprimands: "What's wrong with you? Su Yan is just an eighteen-year-old girl, and you're almost ten years older than her. Why are you speaking so harshly? Don't you know how to be considerate of her? Do you really not want to get married?"

"How is she? Is she still with you? Let me apologize to her."

Jiang Jingxing's voice was calm, but his three consecutive questions revealed his panic and tension.

"She's gone." Tang Li said irritably, "I just explained for you, but I don't know if she listened. She didn't look so bad when she left, but she was definitely still unhappy."

Jiang Jingxing: "Bring her back. I need to explain things to her."

"Who do you think you are? Don't even think about dealing with that girl's temper. Besides, she's angry right now, and she might not listen to you anyway. Let's talk about it again later."

...

After Su Yan came out, she didn't linger outside; she went straight home.

She wouldn't let herself dwell on her emotions, so as soon as she got home, she started looking for things to do.

They worked from dawn till dusk, seemingly without ever getting tired.

Li Juan couldn't persuade her daughter to stop, and her daughter refused to speak.

Just as her daughter was about to grind tofu, she rushed forward to stop her, "Ayan, what are you trying to do? Even I can't handle grinding tofu, are you trying to work yourself to death? Is something wrong?"

Su Yan finally stopped, her expression normal, and said, "It's nothing, I just wanted to do more work. I won't be able to help you when I go to school."
