Chapter 17 Jiang Jingxing

Su Yan was a little surprised.

Finding some medicinal herbs can earn you merit? What kind of high-ranking official would receive such treatment?

"As for what illness it is, I don't know either. I heard that the important figure went to a meeting in the south and fainted after returning. It seems to be poisoning. Doctors from all over the country are waiting there, but after studying it for almost a month, they still have no clue. They can only keep him alive with ginseng," Tang Li said with a heavy expression.

None of this is important, and besides, this little girl is his savior now, so there's no harm in telling her.

Su Yan really couldn't be of much help.

She gained considerable knowledge of various poisons while researching medicinal cuisine, but her rudimentary skills were probably not up to par. Even if she wanted to try, without any proof, she wouldn't be able to get close to that important person at all.

"Then you can calculate the cost. If you need any medicine, you can find me at the food stalls near the high school gate."

Tang Li, who was focused on examining the ginseng, looked up in surprise upon hearing this. "Miss Su, are you going to do business? Actually, you don't need to work so hard. I can arrange for you to be my assistant at Baicaotang. The monthly salary is sixty."

Su Yan was a little surprised by Tang Li's trust in her, but she still shook her head and declined, "I'm going to Southern Medical University in September, and there will be many places to spend money then. Although setting up a stall is hard work, it can also earn more money. Thank you for your kindness."

All she wants now is to make money quickly. If she were afraid of hard work, she wouldn't have chosen to set up a stall. Besides, she's not afraid of hardship.

Upon hearing this, Tang Li's gaze immediately changed, and he smiled with some shock, "I didn't expect Miss Su to be a college student. I underestimated you. I'm truly sorry."

"However, what I just said still stands. If Miss Su changes her mind, please let me know. I welcome outstanding talents here."

He had indeed underestimated Su Yan. Before, he thought Su Yan was just a girl with a little bit of cleverness, but now... she was hardworking, humble, intelligent, and had keen insight. Such a person was not to be underestimated wherever she went.

Tang Li felt that if she were given a little more time, she would definitely become a figure who would be renowned throughout the land.

Of course, no matter what the future holds, it's definitely the right thing for him to do now to build a good relationship with Su Yan, as he genuinely admires this resilient and unyielding young girl.

Finally, Tang Li calculated the total to be 7,200 yuan for 8 portions of Polygonum multiflorum, 10 jin of black goji berries, 600-year-old ginseng, and some rare medicinal herbs from Baicaotang. Of that, 200 yuan was a tip for Su Yan's hard work.

Gathering these things is no easy task.

"Seven thousand two, do you think this price is reasonable?" Tang Li said, "If it is, I will go and withdraw the money."

In Anping Town, even a household with 10,000 yuan didn't have two hands, so 7,200 yuan was not a small amount in those days.

A 600-year-old ginseng costs a little over 3,000 yuan, which is a bit low for Su Yan, but considering the age of this place, she nodded and said, "Okay."

Tang Li breathed a slight sigh of relief. "Wait here for me, I'll go get the money."

After saying that, he left the reception room.

If this ginseng were in the capital, its price would be half again as high. However, he had limited funds at his disposal, and he could also see that Su Yan was a little dissatisfied. He would have to help this young girl more in the future.

Manager's office.

A young man was sitting inside. Seeing Tang Li enter, he hurriedly opened the safe and asked, "Going to do business?"

Tang Li took the money out of the safe and counted it as he replied, "600-year-old ginseng."

The man paused, narrowed his eyes, and said in a deep voice, "Really?"

"Would I joke about something like this?" Tang Li scoffed. "It's quite a coincidence. You just came from the capital, and the ginseng arrived too. You might as well take it back on the way. Heaven is blessing that person. You're still short a thousand. Do you have any?"

Tang Li beckoned to him with his finger.

The man didn't say anything more. He took out the money from the envelope in his green uniform, pulled out a thousand yuan and handed it over. Then he got up and walked out, saying, "I'll go with you to see what the seller looks like."

Tang Li snorted, took the money and followed, "You didn't go to see them, you just suspected they were scammers. Your paranoia is really awful."

He was met with silence, which Tang Li was used to. He put the money into the envelope and pushed open the door to the reception room.

"Miss Su, please count it, it's seven thousand two in total."

The moment the door opened, Su Yan looked up and her gaze met that of the dignified man standing outside who hadn't yet entered.

The man was tall and slender, wearing a military green uniform. He had a handsome and well-defined face with deep-set eyes, a high nose, and a healthy tan. He exuded an air of nobility mixed with a coldness and hardness. His dark eyes were now fixed on her, his gaze direct and scrutinizing, but just right, so as not to make her feel uncomfortable.

Su Yan was somewhat stunned, and also a little surprised.

She had met many men in her past life—handsome and mature—but none of them possessed such contradictory qualities as the man before her.

He was charming; his charisma easily attracted women's admiration, and he was the most outstanding man she had ever met, bar none.

However, she looked at it for a few seconds and then looked away without changing her expression. She didn't have any illusions about love, but that didn't stop her from appreciating outstanding and handsome men.

The man raised an eyebrow in surprise, seemingly not expecting his charm to pale in comparison to hers, or rather... to fail to attract her.

“No need to count. We’re aiming for a long-term partnership, Mr. Tang wouldn’t lie to me,” Su Yan said.

Tang Li was amused by her frankness and teased, "You're quite outspoken, girl. Okay, then if you need anything, just let me know anytime, and I'll definitely help if I can."

Upon hearing this, Su Yan couldn't help but laugh, "Then I actually do have one."

"Huh?" Tang Li looked at her curiously.

"It's nothing serious. Could you help me find a house in town? It needs to be safe, preferably with four rooms, and spacious enough. Money isn't an issue."

She has more than enough money to choose the best she can afford.

Tang Li was a little surprised, but then couldn't help praising, "You're quite farsighted, girl, knowing to buy a house in town."

With the pace of development accelerating, prices for everything are rising, so it's definitely better to buy a house quickly.

“My mother works in town. If I want to set up a stall, it would be more convenient to buy a house.”

"Okay, I'll ask around for you, and I'll tell you when you come back next time."

Su Yan thanked them, then carried her basket downstairs and left.

Tang Li withdrew his gaze and saw the arrogant man staring blankly in the direction Su Yan had left.

He twitched his brow, walked over and patted his arm, teasingly saying, "Jiang Jingxing, you wouldn't happen to have your eye on that young lady, would you?"

His brother was stubborn and taciturn, almost like a mute. Logically speaking, he wouldn't be popular with girls at all, but he had a handsome face. However, he always ignored the women who liked him.

Since Jiang Jingxing broke up with that woman seven years ago, this was the first time Tang Li had seen Jiang Jingxing's gaze following a woman, so naturally he had to tease him a bit.
