Outside the train station.
As Su Yan walked out, she saw Feng Caixia parked her car under the big banyan tree across the stairs, and couldn't help but raise her voice and call out, "Sister Caixia."
Feng Caixia looked in the direction of the sound and saw three people walking towards her.
As she approached, Su Yan said apologetically, "Sister Caixia, I'm so sorry to have kept you waiting."
"I didn't wait long either." Feng Caixia waved her hand dismissively, then shifted her gaze to the man beside her and asked, "This should be Su Yu, right?"
Before Su Yan could introduce them, Su Yu extended his hand and said, "Hello, Sister Caixia, my name is Su Yu. Thank you for taking care of my family. If you need any help in the future, please don't hesitate to ask."
Su Yu's serious attitude stunned Feng Caixia. After she came to her senses, she couldn't help but laugh and said, "We're all family, no need to be so formal. Your sister and I have a good relationship, no need for formalities. Just treat Sister Xia as family from now on."
Since it was the first time Su Yu had met her, he certainly couldn't agree to such a request outright.
He turned his head and happened to see his younger sister winking at him. His lips twitched, and then he nodded and said, "Okay, since Sister Caixia has said so, how can I refuse?"
Feng Caixia looked him up and down without any attempt to hide her gaze.
Although his clothes weren't great, he looked energetic, though a bit thin. Judging from his appearance, he seemed like a good kid.
"Your mother, grandparents, and maternal grandparents are at the restaurant. Let's not keep them waiting. Let's go."
Feng Caixia ushered them into the car, giving Su Yu no time to think too much.
After the car had driven for a while, he suddenly asked, "Ayan, where's Dad?"
The previously lively atmosphere inside the car suddenly fell silent.
Su Yan's smile faded slightly.
When they were in Beijing, her older brother's health was still unstable. She was worried that it would upset him, so she didn't tell him about their parents' divorce. She only let him know that they were having a hard time, and didn't go into details. She just left it at that.
But now that they've arrived in their hometown, no matter how despicable Su Changcheng is, Su Yu is determined to see him, because he is still Su Changcheng's son.
Before Su Yu's accident, Su Changcheng still valued this family a lot. The Su family members didn't dare to mistreat Su Yan and her daughter Li Juan too much because Su Yu was a battalion commander before he went on his mission, and Su's mother and Zhang Yu were still a little wary of him.
After a moment of silence, she slowly spoke: "Brother, actually, Mother has already divorced Su Changcheng."
Su Yu's pupils contracted, and he turned his head to look at her in disbelief, his eyes filled with disbelief.
Before he could speak, Su Yan recounted everything that the Su family had done.
There was no embellishment or exaggeration.
She disdained to do that, because in her eyes, the Su family had already gone too far.
After listening, Su Yu opened his mouth, but for a moment he didn't know what to say. His emotions didn't fluctuate much, just a little complicated.
Actually, he wasn't unaware of Su Changcheng's cowardly, blindly filial, and incompetent nature; he had seen it long ago. But no matter what, he was their biological father, so he should have been more inclined to favor his own children. He never expected that Su Changcheng would be so confused over the years.
He felt more disappointment than anything else towards his father.
Seeing that he remained silent, Feng Caixia, who was driving, said at the right moment: "Su Yu, don't blame your sister for instigating your parents to divorce. If she hadn't done it, she, your mother, and your brother whom you've never met would have been devoured without a trace in the Su family. She did the right thing."
Su Yu snapped out of his thoughts and smiled when he heard Feng Caixia's defense. He said, "Sister Caixia, I'm not a confused person. How could I blame Ayan? I've already felt guilty towards my mother for not being home all these years. If anything happens to her and Ayan, I will never forgive myself for the rest of my life."
He had very little affection for Su Changcheng; things were alright before he joined the army.
After enlisting in the army, when he returned on leave each year, the father and son, who had not seen each other for a long time, should have cared for each other. However, every time Su Changcheng would feign concern for him, he would start asking him for money to support his grandparents. In reality, it was his grandmother who instigated him to do so, but he himself did not understand.
Su Changcheng had done this for two consecutive years, and he had lost all hope in his father. He never imagined that after feeding the Su family so much money, they would still try to take advantage of his mother and sister, and even dare to let Su Zhi take his sister's place in college?!
If Ayan hadn't suddenly realized her mistake, the consequences would have been unimaginable; he would have spent the rest of his life in guilt and regret.
"Ayan, it's all my fault for making you shoulder so much. I'll be here for you from now on," he said apologetically.
Aside from these meager words and promises, he didn't know what else could better make amends to his family.
Su Yan shook her head. "Brother, it's all in the past. Let's look forward. Be happy when you see Mom. She doesn't want to see you looking so dejected."
As soon as she finished speaking, Feng Caixia stopped the car and unbuckled her seatbelt. "Get out of the car when we arrive. Leave your luggage in the car, and I'll take you back later."
"good."
Su Yan responded and then pushed open the door to get out of the car.
After getting off the bus, she subconsciously looked towards Fanghua Restaurant and froze.
Fanghua Restaurant, which used to be quite popular, is now deserted and gloomy, with its doors closed and not a soul in sight.
"Ayan, what are you looking at?" Su Yu asked, puzzled.
After Feng Caixia walked over, Su Yan asked her, "Sister Caixia, has Fanghua Restaurant closed down?"
Feng Caixia glanced at it and then looked away, nodding, "Yes, it's been closed for almost two weeks. I heard that they found irregularities in Fanghua's accounts, and that Lou Kai raped a lot of girls, but he covered it up with money. Not only that, he also did a lot of dirty things. Once they investigated, it went bankrupt, and Fanghua Restaurant was implicated because of him."
After hearing this, Su Yan was dumbfounded!
She knew Lou Kai was a scoundrel, but she never imagined he was this scoundrel!
"How could he be investigated for no reason?" she asked curiously as she walked into the restaurant. "And didn't you say he had strong connections in Beijing?"
Feng Caixia snorted coldly, then suddenly said indignantly, "It's true that he was investigated, but he was only detained for a few days before someone got him out. However, he lost a leg and an arm in prison, and they can't be cured. He'll be a cripple for life! There's nothing we can do; his connections are strong. Otherwise, someone like him would deserve to be locked up for decades!"
Su Yan frowned. Logically speaking, prisoners should not be tortured when they are in jail. How come Lou Kai has lost one of his arms and one of his legs?
She wasn't sympathizing with him, but she felt something was off, though she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
"Alright, let's not keep those unimportant people waiting. Let's go, don't keep your mother and the others waiting too long," Feng Caixia interrupted her.
She immediately stopped thinking about it.
Who cares? Lou Kai deserves what he got.
