Su Yan looked up and saw the person who had come to her, then said, "It's alright, I'm much better now."
Before Ling Zhi could speak, someone shouted, "How can you be alright? You fainted, are you sick or something?"
Su Yan glanced at the person who spoke. It was a female classmate with delicate features, but whose eyes and brows revealed a sharp and mean-spirited look. At this moment, the other party was looking at her with a very unfriendly gaze.
She smiled slightly and asked in return, "Does this student hope I have some kind of illness?"
The female classmate retorted, "I didn't say that. If it wasn't serious, why would you faint? If you're really sick, you should say so. Don't be shy. If you suddenly faint in the classroom one day, whoever is nearby will be wrongly accused!"
Ling Zhi blushed and said, "Ji Qianqian, we're all classmates. You're being too rude. Su Yan said she's fine. Don't go too far!"
Ji Qianqian's eyes widened in disbelief that Ling Zhi would embarrass her in public. She said angrily, "Ling Zhi, you're only protecting her because she's pretty, aren't you? She's just a newcomer! Can't I even say anything about her? Besides, what did I do wrong? I was just thinking of everyone. Who knows what disease she might have, or if it might be contagious?"
"Qianqian! Don't say anything, just bear with it." The girl next to Ji Qianqian tugged at her and whispered, "Offending the class monitor won't do us any good."
Ji Qianqian shook off her hand, "If we don't make things clear today, this matter won't be over!"
Ling Zhi's face turned so red it looked like it was about to bleed, whether from anger or something else, it was hard to tell.
"Ji Qianqian, stop talking nonsense! You were the one who started this aggressive behavior. If you hadn't done that, would I have argued with you?"
Ji Qianqian gave a sarcastic smile, "You men can't even walk past a pretty woman. Do you think I don't know what you're thinking?"
Ling Zhi subconsciously looked at Su Yan and found that she was also looking at him. His heart skipped a beat, and he hurriedly explained, "Su Yan, don't listen to her nonsense. I am the class monitor of Class 2, and it is my duty to care about my classmates."
"I know." Su Yan nodded seriously, then looked at Ji Qianqian and smiled. "Ji Qianqian, I just fainted because of menstrual cramps. Is that a serious illness? Or are you targeting me because you don't like me?"
Since class hasn't started yet, why don't we go to the counselor's office and talk things out? After all, I hate it when people unfairly accuse me of something.
Ji Qianqian choked, feeling a little uneasy looking at Su Yan's smiling face for some reason. After holding it in for a long time, she finally said, "I didn't see you say anything when I was arguing with the class monitor just now. Who knows if you did it on purpose?"
"Enough!" Ling Zhi roared, "Have you said enough? Class is about to start. If you want to continue the class, shut up. If you don't want to, leave. Don't disturb the other students. Otherwise, I'll report you to the counselor for disrupting class discipline."
Ji Qianqian's eyes instantly reddened, and she pointed at Su Yan, saying, "You like her that much? You actually yelled at me for her sake, Ling Zhi, that's not fair!"
After saying that, she couldn't help but burst into tears, covered her face, and ran out of the classroom.
The atmosphere suddenly became awkward.
The group looked at each other in bewilderment.
Ling Zhi clenched his fists and said to the girl who had just been trying to persuade Ji Qianqian, "Gao Hongmei, could you please go after them and take a look?"
Gao Hongmei responded and then ran out.
Ling Zhi shouted, "Everyone else, sit down and get ready for class. Don't disrupt the class. I hope our Class 2 can unite and not cause trouble for no reason."
The other students replied in unison, "Understood, class monitor."
In this day and age, the class monitor's words still carry a lot of weight.
Ling Zhi turned to look at Su Yan and said apologetically, "Su Yan, I'm really sorry about what I said earlier. Please don't take Ji Qianqian's words to heart."
Su Yan raised an eyebrow, somewhat amused, and said, "What do you mean by that, class monitor? You're not the one who slandered me, and you're not the one who should apologize. Besides, I'm a big-hearted person, and a clown can't affect my mood. I won't hold what happened just now against it. Just consider it a joke that Ji put on for me."
After saying that, she glanced at the stunned crowd who were still speechless at her words, and continued, "Also, let me take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Su Yan, I am from Lan City, and I am 18 years old this year. I delayed my registration by two weeks due to personal reasons."
I have a good temper, but I'm not a pushover. I hope we can get along well in the future, and I'd love to be good friends with you all. That's all.
After saying that, she sat back down and waited for class to begin.
Ling Zhi stared at her blankly.
It wasn't until the class bell rang that everyone snapped out of their daze and returned to their seats.
A short while later, the Traditional Chinese Medicine teacher arrived.
He glanced in Su Yan's direction as soon as he came in, and suddenly asked, "Why didn't you come to class yesterday afternoon?"
Su Yan paused for a few seconds, then stood up and replied, "Teacher, I'm not feeling well. I asked my roommate to ask for leave for me, didn't you know?"
Ling Zhi then stood up and said, "Teacher, this is Su Yan. She was the only one who asked for leave yesterday."
"Oh." The traditional Chinese medicine teacher said unhurriedly, "I was just asking. You can catch up on the lessons you missed after class. I don't want anyone to fail the test in a few days."
"Yes, teacher," she said.
"Alright, let's begin class. Turn to page 40."
Traditional Chinese medicine is a very obscure and dry subject, with many important points that require note-taking. In this class, students rarely whisper to each other, for fear of missing anything the teacher is saying.
In the first and second periods, the teacher asked Su Yan, the only student sitting in the front row, as usual. Su Yan's answer was perfect, and the teacher's usually stern face showed a lot more smiles.
By the third class, he suddenly changed his tune and started calling on students randomly. The students who were called on were furious, but they still managed to answer haltingly. However, the traditional Chinese medicine teacher was clearly not satisfied.
The three classes in the morning ended at 11:00 AM.
Su Yan slowly packed her things, waiting for Deng Ziyi and the others to come find her.
"Su Yan, do you know where the cafeteria is?" Ling Zhi asked her from behind. "If you don't know, we can go eat together, and I can show you around the campus."
Behind him were several male and female classmates, all looking at her expectantly.
Su Yan smiled apologetically, "I'm sorry, I made an appointment with my roommates before class, they'll be coming to find me soon."
No sooner had he finished speaking than Deng Ziyi and his group appeared at the doorway.
Deng Ziyi waved to her, "Ayan is gone."
Ling Zhi glanced in Deng Ziyi's direction and then said, "It's okay, how about we have dinner together tomorrow? We're all in the same class, and since you're new here, we all want to get to know each other."
Su Yan thought for a moment, "Okay, then let's do it tomorrow. Thank you, class monitor and other classmates. I'll be going now, bye-bye."
After saying that, she left with her schoolbag on her back.
