The atmosphere in the living room instantly quieted down because of these words.
The person who said this was an elderly woman of similar age to Grandma Tao.
The old lady's calculating glint was undisguised, and her gaze fell on Su Yan and Tao Yue, making the two extremely uncomfortable.
Tao Jin, who was chatting with her friends, immediately got up and walked over upon hearing this.
Today he was wearing a very formal black custom-made suit, exuding a calm and powerful aura, clearly the demeanor of a person in a superior position.
He frowned and retorted, "Madam Wu, not to mention that my two younger sisters are not in a hurry to get married, if they really have a suitable husband, my grandmother will take care of it herself, without needing anyone else to interfere."
Madam Wu, however, seemed not to understand and clicked her tongue in dissatisfaction. "Good men are hard to find these days. If your two younger sisters were to marry into such a family, it would not only bring double happiness but also boost the Tao family's business to new heights. It would be entirely beneficial to the Tao family. If it weren't for your good relationship with Madam Tao, such a good thing would never have been given to anyone else."
Old Madam Wu practically said, "You Tao family don't know how to appreciate kindness."
Even though Grandma Tao was thinking about enduring the New Year, she lost her temper. She leaned back, crossed her arms, and sneered, "I remember that Madam Wu also has two granddaughters who have just turned eighteen, right? You've always been the type to be afraid of others taking advantage of you, so how could you let my two granddaughters have such a good marriage?"
Hearing these sarcastic words, Madam Wu's loose face twitched twice, and she chuckled dryly, "I would like to, but how could our Wu family possibly be worthy of such a good marriage? Sister Tao, you have really misunderstood me."
"Alright." Grandma Tao said with disgust, "Don't think I don't know what kind of twin brothers you're talking about. Who in Beijing doesn't know their infamous reputation? They actually dared to push my granddaughter into a fire pit. It seems I've been too kind to you all this time. Tao Jin, ask the Wu family to leave. There's no need to invite them in again."
Tao Jin responded, her cold gaze sweeping directly at Old Madam Wu's grandson.
Young Master Wu broke out in a cold sweat and quickly went forward to help his grandmother up.
Grandma Wu was so angry that her face turned black, but she didn't want her grandson to lose face, so she stood up and said sarcastically, "Your Tao family is so good, daring to look down on those two young masters. You really are refusing to listen to reason and will have to suffer the consequences. Just wait and see, your Tao family will soon be in big trouble!"
After saying this, Old Mrs. Wu stormed off.
No one present was a fool. Old Mrs. Wu's purpose today was too obvious. Moreover, many of the Wu family's businesses depended on the Tao family. Usually, she always had a smiling face in front of Old Mrs. Tao. How could she dare to talk back like she did just now?
Something unusual must be going on.
Grandma Tao pondered for a moment, then said, "Tao Jin, go and find out what happened."
Tao Jin nodded slightly, "I understand, Grandma."
After saying that, he walked out.
Su Yan wasn't very familiar with the Tao family's interpersonal relationships, so she didn't speak rashly just now.
Seeing that Grandma Tao looked terribly upset, she comforted her, "Grandma, don't get angry over such trivial matters during the New Year."
Qiao Fei also said, "Yes, Mom, it's only Chinese New Year once a year, let's just treat it as a joke."
Old Mrs. Wu was an elder, and although she was the matriarch of the Tao family, she couldn't very well argue with an elder in front of everyone. Besides, Grandma Tao was also there, so there was no need for her to speak up.
Grandma Tao's expression softened a bit, and she smiled again, saying to everyone, "I'm so sorry for making you all laugh just now."
Everyone quickly said that everything was alright and subtly changed the subject, with no one daring to mention Tao Yue and Su Yan's marriage again.
Aside from the brief interlude, the atmosphere remained relatively harmonious.
Tao Yue then took Su Yan to meet new friends.
Although she was impatient with dealing with these young masters and ladies, they had come all the way to wish her a Happy New Year, so she couldn't possibly show them a sour face.
No one looked down on Su Yan just because she was the Tao family's adopted granddaughter; after all, she was Elder Jue's last disciple.
Not to mention that Master Jue has treated many highly respected leaders, Su Yan's three senior brothers are no ordinary people.
Xie Jin and Guo Ziming, in particular, are said to have doted on their only junior sister.
Tao Yue went to the restroom.
A young man in a silver-gray suit stepped forward and greeted Su Yan, "Miss Su, would it be my pleasure to be friends with you?"
Su Yan, who had been staring at the TV with great boredom, turned her head when she heard the sound.
The man in front of me had a refined appearance, wore gold-rimmed glasses, and had his hair slicked back. He seemed gentle and kind.
He was holding two glasses of juice, and he handed one of them to her.
Su Yan thought for a moment, then took it and smiled faintly, "Thank you."
She took the juice, took a symbolic sip, and then put it on the table.
A glint of darkness flashed in the man's eyes, and he asked with a smile, "Miss Su, do you mind if I ask your age?"
“18, in college, not old enough to get married yet. If you want to be friends with me, that’s fine, but nothing else.” Su Yan said with a smile, “If I get married early, my master will break my legs.”
Tao Yue's introduction was rather perfunctory, and she hadn't listened carefully, so she really didn't know the man's name.
However, she didn't intend to ask.
The man clearly hadn't expected her to refuse so directly, and a hint of surprise appeared on his refined face.
Just then, a nonchalant voice chimed in, "Second sister, this is Mr. Jingmao."
Su Yan looked over and found that it was He Jinnian who had appeared there at some unknown time.
She was stunned for a moment, then looked at the man in front of her and said incredulously, "You're Jingmao?!"
Jing Mao hesitated and asked, "Does Miss Su know me?"
"I don't know him." Su Yan quickly regained her composure and said with a faint smile, "I just heard others mention Mr. Jing's great name."
Jing Mao seemed well aware of his poor reputation in the food delivery business, and retorted, "What others say about me may not be the truth. Miss Su, you'll only know what I'm really like after you meet me in person, won't you?"
As he spoke, he raised the juice in his hand with a gentle smile.
Su Yan smiled and stared at him quietly.
He Jinnian was startled by her gaze, thinking that his second sister was definitely up to no good.
Just as Jing Mao began to realize that Su Yan's attitude towards him was somewhat off, Su Yan finally spoke up: "Mr. Jing is right."
After saying that, she picked up the juice on the table, tilted her head back, and drank it all in one gulp.
Jing Mao was secretly delighted, but remained calm on the surface and asked in a gentlemanly manner, "May I ask if I may have the honor of obtaining Miss Su's contact information?"
"certainly."
Jingmao immediately took out paper and pen from his pocket and handed them to her.
Su Yan casually wrote down her phone number.
"Thank you." Jing Mao held the notebook, looking as if he had found a treasure, and returned to his original position.
Su Yan's lips curved slightly, her eyes, though filled with a smile, were full of mockery.
