Chapter 46 Farce

"I don't care. I got injured because of the direction Su Yan gave me. I have a wife and children to support. Now that my leg is crippled, you have to take responsibility for my family's future! Not just that, but medical expenses, nutrition expenses, and compensation for emotional distress—you can't skimp on any of it!" Li Dajun said with a sinister look on his face.

He heard from others that Su Yan was now running a business at a stall in town and must be making a lot of money. He couldn't let his leg go to waste. He had to make Su Yan take responsibility no matter what. Besides, she was already running a business. Couldn't she afford two hundred yuan a month?

“These three fees total five thousand, and then you have to give me 200 yuan every month to support my child and me, otherwise this matter is not over!” Li Dajun added.

"My goodness! Five thousand yuan! And two hundred more every month, how much money is that? Su Yan's family definitely can't afford that!"

"Why are you bothering with other people's business? Dajun lost his leg, isn't it only right that Su Yan contribute some money? Are you suggesting she won't give him a single penny?"

"Su Yan is really unlucky..."

Some present were gloating, while others felt sorry for him.

Five thousand yuan—how many years would it take them to earn that much? Isn't that a death sentence?

Li Juan's face turned pale, and she trembled with anger. Pointing at Li Dajun, she cursed, "This is extortion! Why should my daughter pay compensation? It's not like we caused your injury."

Li Dajun sneered, "Even if it wasn't your fault, I lost this leg because of Su Yan. I heard you're going to college. If you don't pay me, I'll report you to the police. I wonder if your school will accept a student who's been to jail before."

"You!" Li Juan was furious and couldn't help but turn her gaze to her daughter.

We can't let this affect our schooling!

"Are you sure you went into the mountains in the direction I pointed out, and didn't change direction on your own?" Su Yan, who had been watching Li Dajun's performance, asked with a smile.

Although she was smiling, the coldness in her eyes was almost overflowing.

Feeling guilty, Li Dajun looked away to avoid her gaze and mumbled, "I went in the direction you told me to."

Su Yan lowered her eyes and fiddled with her fingers, speaking casually: "But when I went up the mountain today, I saw that your footprints were going in a different direction, not the direction I gave you."

You don't need to deny it. Everyone can shine flashlights at the foot of the mountain and see which side your footprints are on. This is something that can't be faked.

Because of the deaths that have occurred there, few villagers venture near the mountain. Even when they do, they only gather some firewood to burn.

Upon hearing Su Yan's words, everyone turned their attention to Li Dajun.

Unable to withstand the pressure, Li Dajun retorted somewhat angrily, "Who knows if you're really that kind? What if you're just lying to me? Of course I'll go in the opposite direction. What did I do wrong? Who told you to go up the mountain? If you hadn't gone up the mountain, none of this would have happened!"

Su Yan was utterly speechless.

Could this idiot have some kind of paranoia?

"This hill isn't yours to climb. Do I need your permission to go up there whenever I want? Besides, you're the one who overthinks things. You got injured because you didn't follow the directions I gave you. What does that have to do with me? If you're trying to extort money from me, isn't this reason a bit outrageous?"

“When you guys came to me, I made it clear that whatever happened after we went up the mountain would have nothing to do with me. You’re just unwilling to accept losing a leg and want to cling to me, but don’t forget the guarantee you signed. Even if you take it to the police, they won’t make me pay compensation!”

After saying that, Su Yan took out the folded guarantee from her pocket, spread it out in front of everyone, and said loudly, "Everyone, come and see. Not only does it have Li Dajun's name on it, but it also has his fingerprint on it. It's written clearly in black and white. Why should I pay compensation? As for reporting it to the police? Go ahead and report it. Then we'll see who's really the one who loses face!"

Li Dajun was dumbfounded.

Why didn't things go as he expected?

Shouldn't a normal person be terrified and weak-kneed at the thought of calling the police? Su Yan actually told him to call the police?

Li Dajun gritted his teeth and questioned, "Are you saying you're not willing to take responsibility?"

"Why should I be responsible? What kind of joke are you spouting?"

"What happened?"

Having received word of the situation, the captain rushed in from the outer edge of the crowd. Seeing his disheveled eldest son, he frowned. Before he could even speak, Li Dajun howled, grabbing at the captain's leg and crying, "Dad! You have to stand up for me! My leg is ruined, it's all Su Yan's fault! If she hadn't gone up the mountain, I wouldn't have thought of hunting. Now she's denying responsibility! Dad, my life is over! You have to stand up for me! Even if you don't like me, you have to think about what will happen to Shitou and Erniu!"

The brigade leader was completely bewildered until he learned the whole story from the villagers, at which point his face darkened!

He kicked Li Dajun away, his face flushed as he cursed, "You bastard! You brought this on yourself, and you still have the nerve to extort money from that young girl? She just got into university, and you want to ruin Su Yan for your own selfish desires?"

Why is the captain blushing? He's embarrassed!

He felt utterly ashamed to have such a good-for-nothing and despicable son!

After scolding Li Dajun, the captain looked at Su Yan with a guilty expression. "Yan girl, I'm really sorry. This has nothing to do with you. I will never let this bastard cause you any more trouble. If he does anything, just come to me and I'll beat him to death."

Su Yan frowned. "Captain, this has nothing to do with you. You don't need to apologize to me. Take him to town first to see if his leg can be saved."

Li Dajun was utterly humiliated, so he simply lay down on the stretcher with his head in his hands, but the tense muscles in his body betrayed his feelings.

Hearing the words of the captain and Su Yan, intense hatred flashed in his eyes.

That old bastard is so biased! If it were the second or third son lying here today, would he still react like this?

And this bitch, she won't give me a single penny.

If that's the case, then don't blame him for being ruthless!

The captain responded and then quickly took Li Dajun away.

Before the crowd dispersed, Su Yan loudly reminded, "I'll say this one last time: if anyone gets greedy and goes up the mountain, I will not be responsible for anything that happens. Don't bother making a scene in front of me. No matter how long you make a scene, the result will be the same. If you're not satisfied, go find the police and let them talk to me."

After saying that, she closed the door without looking back.

Li Juan patted her chest and said with a headache, "Why is it so hard to have a peaceful day every day?"

Back at the dinner table, no one had any appetite.

Su Yan silently finished the rice in her bowl before saying calmly, "It's okay, moving to town means we won't have to deal with these monsters and demons anymore."

She decided to contact Tang Li tomorrow and ask him to introduce her to a renovation contractor.
