Right now, Li Juan's top priority is her daughter's college admission notice. She wouldn't mind waiting two nights in advance, just to avoid those beasts from the Su family getting there first!
Su Yan was unaware of her mother's ulterior motives. Since she was unable to help much due to her mobility issues, she moved a stool and sat in front of the stove to watch the fire.
Li Yongcheng arrived at 2:30, carrying two breakfasts, but his leg looked even more limping today.
Seeing her tending the fire, he quickly said, "Ah Yan got up to help today too? I didn't know, I just bought two breakfasts."
"Third Uncle, I don't have much of an appetite. You and Mom can eat." Su Yan said, then looked at his sloping leg, her brows furrowing even deeper. She asked, "Third Uncle, what happened to your leg? It wasn't so sloping when we went back yesterday, and you didn't look well."
Upon hearing this, Li Yongcheng immediately looked embarrassed and stammered, "It's nothing. I was just walking too fast on my way back yesterday and I accidentally fell. I went to the clinic and I need to rest for a while. It's nothing serious."
"Third Uncle, I'm not a three-year-old child, you can't fool me." She said calmly, "Also, I don't support employees who come to work while sick. You either explain yourself clearly and go to the hospital for treatment immediately, or I'll fire you."
Hearing the commotion, Li Juan came out of the house with the things she needed. Seeing this, she quickly reminded him, "Chengzi, listen to Ayan. She's doing this for your own good. Otherwise, why would she ask such a question?"
Li Yongcheng was afraid of losing his job. He put down his breakfast, sat on the ground with a helpless expression, and scratched his head. His tone was aggrieved and angry: "My older brother came to my house yesterday. He also wanted to work for you. He asked me to say some good things about you. I didn't want to, so we got into a fight, and I twisted my ankle again."
Without even guessing, Su Yan knew that it must have been Li Yong'an who did it, and that Li Yongcheng hadn't retaliated yet.
She couldn't help but laugh angrily, "What's the use of him pleading with you if he wants to work for me? If he's so capable, come and find me! I can hire whoever I want. Who does he think he is? Go back today and tell your older brother that I will never hire someone like him in my entire life!"
She saw through Li Zhongnan's family after the wall-building incident. The whole family was exploiting Li Yongcheng; what good could they be?
"Why is Yong'an like this? He only contacts you when he needs to. Why do brothers have to fight?" Li Juan was also a little angry.
However, she didn't know that Li Zhongnan's family had nothing of value besides Li Yongcheng.
Before Li Yongcheng could speak, Su Yan continued, "Third Uncle, I'm not trying to sow discord. I just want to tell you that neither your father nor your eldest brother treats you as family. You should know that in your heart."
Li Yongcheng held his head and mumbled, "I know."
He was still clinging to a sliver of hope.
“I know what you’re thinking, but if you don’t cut ties with them soon, they’ll keep sucking your blood.” Su Yan analyzed calmly, “If you work for me, your future will definitely be bright. And your child, do you plan to keep him in this remote mountain village for the rest of his life? If you have better opportunities, why not settle down in town and raise your child?”
Li Yongcheng suddenly looked up at her, his eyes twitching between confusion and clarity, a struggle between the two.
"That's all I have to say. It's up to you whether you're willing to get things done quickly."
After Su Yan finished speaking, she ended the topic.
"Go to the hospital to get your foot checked first. The doctor told you to rest it. Go back to Lijiaping today. If it's not too much trouble, come back and help out later."
Li Yongcheng responded and then went to the hospital absentmindedly.
Li Juan then asked, "Ayan, what happened to Secretary Li's family?"
Su Yan briefly recounted the story of Li Zhongnan's family.
Li Juan was shocked when she heard this!
She hadn't expected that Secretary Li's family would be like this, and with mixed feelings, she said, "Then I hope Chengzi can think it through and not let his wife and children suffer in the end."
That matter is over for them.
When it was almost six o'clock, Li Yongcheng came back to help. Su Yan didn't ask any more questions. She moved a stool to the door and waited. The proper sense of ceremony still had to be maintained.
After loading the braised food into the car, Li Juan told Li Yongcheng to go to the stall first, while she and her daughter waited together.
As dawn broke and the sky began to lighten, more and more pedestrians appeared on the road.
The mother and daughter craned their necks in anticipation.
On the other side, there's a phone booth in front of the post office.
Grandpa Su came out of the phone booth, a relaxed smile appearing on his aged face.
Zhang Yu hurriedly asked, "How did it go, Dad? What did the mayor say?"
Su Zhi asked nervously, "Grandpa, will it work?"
Old Mrs. Su: "It can happen! Why can't it happen? The university will definitely be my precious grandson's!"
Grandpa Su glared at his wife with her big mouth, then slowly said, "The town mayor's secretary said that Su Yan's admission notice will definitely arrive this morning."
Although the town mayor's secretary didn't treat him very well, Old Master Su didn't take it to heart because of the good news.
"Great! Great! We'll just wait outside the post office today!" Zhang Yu said excitedly.
After living in fear for so many days, once she received her acceptance letter, she was determined to teach Su Yan and her daughter a lesson!
Su Zhi was overjoyed. He raised his chin and looked down on everyone, walking with an air of superiority.
The Su family members were squatting in front of the post office, eating steamed buns; the college admission notice had already arrived at Su Yan's doorstep.
The person who delivered the notice was a young woman who looked to be around twenty-five years old. She had a neat short haircut that made her features look more defined. She was wearing tight pants, a white shirt, and a pair of old, thin boots.
After parking the car, she got out of the driver's seat with a postal document in her hand and walked up to Su Yan. "What's your name?"
The tone was direct and concise.
Su Yan was stunned by the woman's handsomeness, inwardly exclaiming "Wow!", but calmly replied, "Su Yan, 18 years old, waiting for the admission notice from Southern Medical University."
The woman glanced at the house number, checked it against the information Su Yan had given her, and then handed over the registration book and pen, saying, "Sign your name."
Su Yan quickly signed her name in the registration book.
Her handwriting is vigorous and powerful, revealing a sharp edge, which is not at all like something someone her age could write.
The woman couldn't help but look up at her again, then handed her the file folder, saying, "Congratulations, good luck to you, student."
Su Yan blinked and said, "Thank you, I will."
Li Juan took the document from the woman's hand and opened it first.
These days, an admission notice is just a piece of paper with red lettering on a white background and the school's seal.
Southern Medical University Admission Notice: To Su Yan, a student from Anping No.1 Middle School, Anping Town, Lanzhou City, Liaoning Province: You have been admitted to our university to study Clinical Medicine. The bottom left corner shows the school address, and the bottom right corner shows the school name, date, and official seal.
Li Juan read it carefully several times, smiling from ear to ear, tears streaming down her face.
