When Su Yan and Tang Li found Li Juan's ward, Huo Qianli was still there.
Li Juan was still unconscious in the hospital bed. The blood on her face had been cleaned up, revealing the state she had been in after being beaten. Her face was swollen beyond recognition, and her features were all squeezed together.
"You're out?" Huo Qianli breathed a sigh of relief. "The police came to collect evidence just now, and I heard from them that you were arrested, but I can't leave here for the time being. I was planning to try to get you out later."
As she spoke, her gaze fell upon Tang Li behind her, and she was immediately surprised. "Huh? Aren't you the one who gave me directions?"
Su Yan examined Li Juan's wound and replied in a low voice, "He is Tang Li, the manager of Baicaotang, and also my friend. He got me out of the police station and came with me to check on my mother's condition."
Huo Qianli nodded in realization, and seeing how thorough the examination was, she said, "Auntie's face is fine, but her arm was broken and just put in a cast. The doctor said she needs to rest for a hundred days and come back for a check-up once a month."
Hearing this, Su Yan felt a pang of heartache. She took a deep breath, tucked the blanket around Li Juan, and then straightened up to say to her, "Thank you, Qianli."
Huo Qianli could have easily taken Li Juan to the hospital and then ignored her, but she didn't. Instead, she took great care of her. It's impossible not to be grateful.
"Why are you being so polite? Aren't we good friends?" Huo Qianli said jokingly, "If you really want to thank me, then give me some new gadgets, and I won't stand on ceremony with you."
"Yes, I will," Su Yan replied.
Tang Li spoke up from the side: "Su Yan, I'll go back first and find you a lawyer. If you need anything else, feel free to come to my house anytime."
He had told Su Yan his home address during a previous chat.
Su Yan: "Okay, thank you for your trouble, Uncle Tang."
Tang Li said "You're welcome" and left.
Huo Qianli felt a little more at ease after he left, and whispered to Su Yan in a low voice, "Why did you hire a lawyer? Are you going to sue your grandma and the others?"
"Do you think I shouldn't sue?" Su Yan asked with a smile.
Huo Qianli shook her head vigorously, "Of course we'll sue! They hurt Auntie so badly, even a clay idol would have some temper! But nominally, they're your family, won't this damage your reputation?"
Su Yan's expression turned cold. "I don't care about reputation. As long as they pay the price, let them curse me. I don't care."
Besides, do the Su family members even treat her like family? They practically want to exploit her like a blood bank.
Why not deal with this kind of person sooner rather than later, instead of letting him harm her again and again?
Huo Qianli thought it made sense. She had the same temper as Su Yan; she was vengeful and couldn't tolerate the slightest thing.
"If you want them to stay in jail longer, I can help you."
Su Yan understood what she meant and felt a warmth in her heart. "The person who hit my mother is my grandmother. I will make sure she goes to jail for more than three years. As for the others, they didn't hurt anyone, but they are accomplices. They will probably only serve ten days or so and be released after a warning."
"Then let's go back and discuss it with my dad." Huo Qianli winked at her.
When you're out in public, you can't be too blunt.
Su Yan understood immediately and then said, "Can you watch my mother here for me? I'll go home first to let my grandma and grandpa know I'm safe, and I'll also bring some clean clothes over."
"Okay, I'll have someone else go to work for me today. You can take your time."
...
When Su Yan arrived home, both Grandma Li and Grandpa Li were so excited that they cried.
Su Lei couldn't keep it to himself. He rushed over and hugged his sister, crying, "Sister, I heard from Grandma and the others that you went to jail. I thought you would never come back, sob sob sob..."
Just as Su Yan was deeply moved and was about to pick it up, she heard him say, "If you don't come back, won't our good days be over? What if Grandpa and Grandma come and take over our house? I can't fight them!"
Su Yan: "..."
She laughed in exasperation, slapped Su Lei hard on the bottom, and said irritably, "You little ingrate, so you're worried about your own life, not about your sister!"
The originally somber and sad atmosphere lightened up because of Su Lei's words.
Grandma Li and Grandpa Li both burst into laughter through their tears.
"You silly boy, you really don't know how to talk," Grandma Li said with a laugh, then looked at Su Yan and said in a hoarse voice, "It's good that you're back."
Su Yan stepped forward and hugged the two elderly people. "Grandpa and Grandma, I'm sorry to have worried you. If this happens again, please don't worry. I won't put myself in danger."
"Good!" Granny Li said "good" three times.
But it's impossible not to worry.
In these past few days, Su Yan has long become the pillar of the family. If something really happens to her, it would be no different from the sky falling down for their family.
Li Yongcheng didn't leave either; he stayed with Grandma Li and the others while they waited for news, and also washed all the pots, pans, and dishes.
He stepped forward somewhat awkwardly to explain, "Su Yan, I've cleaned everything up, but I lost several hundred yuan today. Also, some parts of the stall cart I set up are missing and I can't fix it because I'm not skilled enough."
The renovation of the yard is complete in all other aspects, except for the custom-made door which has not yet been delivered. Therefore, Zhou Yuanqing and his team will not start work for the next two days. Li Yongcheng does not know where his stall is, so he can only put the stall aside for the time being.
Su Yan chuckled, took two steps forward, and patted his shoulder. "Thank you, Third Uncle. You've worked hard. You can start resting tomorrow. I'll call you when it's time to start work again."
Upon hearing this, Li Yongcheng's mind went astray, and he panicked, saying, "Su Yan, did I do something wrong? You can tell me, I will definitely correct it. I don't want to lose this job, please give me another chance..."
"No, you misunderstood." Su Yan interrupted him, quickly saying, "What I meant was that my mother's injury is quite serious. The doctor said she needs to rest for about a hundred days to recover, so she can't set up her stall during this time. Luckily, I just rented a shop today and plan to open it right away after the renovations are done. I won't need to set up a stall anymore; I'll sell braised food in the shop from now on. But don't worry, I'll still pay you for your wages during this rest period. Besides, Uncle San is so responsible and has helped me take care of my grandparents. You've done so well; how could I possibly fire you? Unless I'm stupid."
After hearing the explanation, Li Yongcheng blushed instantly. He scratched his head sheepishly and said awkwardly, "It's my fault for not thinking straight enough. But you don't need to calculate my wages. I'll only get paid for the days I work. How can I take it for free?"
Before Su Yan could speak, Granny Li said, "Just take it when Ayan tells you to. She's just being grateful to you."
Since Granny Li had spoken, Li Yongcheng couldn't refuse, so he agreed.
After he left, Granny Li said to Su Yan, "I'm going to take care of your mother. You stay home and rest well, and save up your energy to kill those damned bastards in the Su family!"
It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that she now hates the Su family to the core!
