When Xiao Jiang saw his second brother again after more than a year, he still looked a little timid.
Xiao Weiguo released his hand and pushed him.
"Go and let your second brother hug you."
Xiao Jiang put his little finger in his mouth, looked at his familiar yet unfamiliar second brother, and slowly moved his feet, getting closer and closer to Xiao Jian.
"Little brother!"
Xiao Jian let out a mournful cry, stepped forward, and hugged Xiao Jiang tightly. He buried his head in Xiao Jiang's chest, tears streaming down his face.
Xiao Jiang clearly couldn't understand his second brother's grief.
She glanced back at her older brother, then cupped Xiao Jian's tear-streaked face in her two small hands.
"Second brother, don't cry, Xiao Jiang is here."
At this moment, everyone else in the room also ran out upon hearing the noise.
Xiao Shanshan recognized her younger brother, who had been separated from her for over a year, at a glance. The book she was holding fell to the ground with a thud.
"Xiao Jian!"
She cried out and rushed over.
Xiao Jian heard his sister calling him, wiped away his tears, stood up, and took Xiao Jiang's hand in one hand.
Xiao Shanshan came up to him, grabbed Xiao Jian's arms with both hands, and looked her younger brother up and down and left and right.
"She's grown taller and thinner..."
She murmured to herself, tears streaming down her face.
Suddenly, Xiao Shanshan raised her hand and slapped Xiao Jian hard across the face.
Xiao Jian was startled and covered his face, staring at his sister in astonishment.
"You bastard, you just turned around and left. Do you know how I've been these past year? Do you know how much I've missed you? When you first left, Xiao Jiang and Xiao Yue kept pestering me for my second brother. Do you know how heartbroken I was when I heard those words?"
Xiao Shanshan was very emotional, speaking and crying at the same time. She also tenderly rubbed her younger brother's face, which she had just slapped.
Xiao Jian lowered his head, tears falling to his feet.
"Sister, I'm sorry, I'll never do it again."
Throughout his life, Xiao Jian respected his older sister the most.
It can be said that after their parents passed away, it was the older sister who single-handedly shouldered the burden of the family and the lives of all her siblings.
Without Xiao Shanshan, heaven knows what their family would be like now.
At this moment, Xiao Yue also ran over; this little girl was the most well-behaved.
While everyone else was secretly grieving, she was the only one laughing and skipping over to Xiao Jian in a few steps.
"Wow, Second Brother, you're finally back! Yueyue and her brothers and sisters missed you so much!"
As he spoke, he threw himself onto his second brother and opened his arms.
Xiao Jian reached out and picked up his younger sister. Influenced by Xiao Yue, he suddenly stopped crying and started laughing.
"Yueyue is getting more and more beautiful."
He affectionately pinched Xiao Yue's tender little face, looking as if he couldn't bear to part with her.
Xiao Yue giggled and laughed so hard in her brother's arms that she almost fell over, her clear, childlike voice echoing throughout the yard.
"I know, Teacher Zhou also praised me for being pretty. When I grow up, I will definitely be even prettier than Sister Liuye and Shanshan."
The whole family was amused by the little girl and smiled.
Even Xiao Weiguo, who had secretly wiped away a few tears when no one was looking, now felt much better.
At this moment, only Grandma Liu's eyes were still red.
She walked over with small steps, constantly wiping her hands on her apron.
"This must be Xiao Jian. You're already home, what are you still standing here for? Come inside."
Xiao Jian looked up and saw an old woman with a kind face, whom he did not recognize.
Seeing this, Xiao Shanshan quickly explained on his behalf.
"This is Grandma Liu, Xiao Jiang and Xiao Yue's godmother. She treats us siblings even better than our own grandmothers. Quickly call her Grandma."
After hearing his sister's words, Xiao Jian glanced at Grandma Liu and called out softly.
"grandmother!"
"Ai!"
Grandma Liu agreed, took Xiao Jian's hand, and walked into the main room.
"Come inside with Grandma and sit down. Grandma will go cook dinner now, and we'll have a nice meal tonight."
Xiao Weiguo then remembered the dinner issue.
"Grandma, don't cook. There are so many people, you'll be too tired. I'll have Jiao Bai order a table at the restaurant and have it delivered to our house later."
As he spoke, he turned to Jiao Bai and instructed him to find the best restaurant, book the most upscale meal, and that money was no object, but speed was essential.
Upon hearing this, Jiao Bai turned around and drove off in his Crown car.
Turning back, Xiao Weiguo thought.
The number of people in the family has increased. Now Xiao Jian has also returned. There are five people in his family, plus Liu Ye, Teacher Zhou, Liu Qing, Jiao Bai, and Grandma. Now there are a total of ten people living in this courtyard.
If we have other guests on weekdays, then there will be even more people.
For Grandma, cooking was just too much of a burden.
Xiao Weiguo decided to hire a local nanny tomorrow to help his grandmother buy groceries, cook meals, and clean the house every day, so that his grandmother could have an easier time.
Although the old lady was willing to move around, she was too old after all, and Xiao Weiguo couldn't bear to let her overwork herself.
Inside the main room, the family, along with Liu Ye and Liu Qing, sat in a circle. Xiao Jian's return put everyone in a good mood, and they kept asking him all sorts of questions.
Even Teacher Zhou put down her work and came over to join in the fun.
Everyone surrounded Xiao Jian, bombarding him with questions about his life and experiences over the past year. They asked if he had suffered any hardships or been bullied.
Xiao Jian did not reveal his true living situation, only saying that everything was fine and he could still get by.
