Chapter 25 Becoming an Apprentice

Tiger stopped what he was doing and looked at Jiao Bai with a determined gaze.

“Master, you said that no matter what the conditions are, I will definitely do it.”

Jiao Bai nodded. He stood up and spoke slowly.

“I have been observing your character for a long time. Although you come from humble origins, you have not strayed into evil ways. You are honest, hardworking, and meet the requirements of my disciple.”

"However, there's one condition you have to agree to before I'll accept you."

"Master, please speak."

Tiger waited solemnly for Jiao Bai to continue.

"We martial artists value loyalty and righteousness above all else. I want you to promise me that you will be loyal to your brothers and friends for life, putting righteousness first and never failing your brothers' trust or your friends' kindness. Loyalty and righteousness are more important than life itself. Do you promise me?"

Jiao Bai spoke these words with extreme seriousness, his expression very solemn.

"Loyalty and righteousness are more important than life itself, Master, I will remember that."

Tiger, mimicking Jiao Bai's tone, answered with the same seriousness.

Jiao Bai nodded again.

"Alright, remember what you said today. If one day you betray your friends and your brothers, don't blame me for being ruthless."

“Master, please rest assured, I could never do such a thing in my entire life.”

Tiger's gaze was firm and confident.

Only then did Jiao Bai feel relieved.

"That's good. There are only the two of us in our sect now, so we won't bother with those formalities. Kneel down and kowtow to me, and bring me a cup of water. That will be considered your formal entry into the sect. From now on, I will do my best to teach you."

No sooner had Jiao Bai finished speaking than the quick-witted Xiao Mengjie ran back into the house and dragged out a large chair, placing it behind Jiao Bai.

Jiao Bai slowly sat down, his gaze fixed straight ahead.

Tiger poured himself a cup of tea, held it in his hand, walked step by step to Jiao Bai, and knelt down on the ground with a thud.

He raised both teacups above his head and shouted loudly.

"Master, please have some tea."

Jiao Bai took the teacup, took a symbolic sip, and then placed it on the stone table beside him. He reached out and helped Hu Zi up.

"Clap clap clap".

A round of applause followed.

"Great, that's really great."

A series of indistinct cheers rang out.

No one noticed that Gu Meiying, who had been sitting blankly, had somehow appeared behind Jiao Bai, clapping her hands and cheering. Her expression was still somewhat dazed, but the depression she once had was gone.

Xiao Mengjie quickly went up to support her arm to prevent her from causing trouble.

With the apprenticeship ceremony complete, Hu Zi is now officially Jiao Bai's disciple.

Everyone clapped and cheered, just like Gu Mei. Their faces were beaming with joy.

Xiao Jian was the first to jump out and punched Hu Zi in the chest.

"Tiger, congratulations! You've finally gotten what you wanted."

Tiger chuckled a few times, just as he met Xiao Mengjie's gaze. She smiled and, supporting her mother, looked at the two brothers in the middle.

Xiao Weiguo saw everything, and the scene brought him a sense of relief.

He waved his hand, signaling everyone to be quiet.

"To celebrate Jiao Bai and Hu Zi, I'm treating everyone today. I'll personally cook a delicious meal for everyone to enjoy. If there's anything you'd like to eat, just let me know if you can buy it."

Among those present, apart from Gu Meiying who was considered an elder, his address of "elder brother" was well-deserved.

When something makes you happy, what could be more joyful than a big meal?

Everyone cheered and jumped for joy. It's not an easy thing these days to get to eat a meal personally prepared by Chairman Xiao.

"You and your daughter aren't allowed to leave either. You'll have to help me out later."

Xiao Weiguo turned around and gave Xiao Mengjie special instructions.

With Chef Xiao personally in charge, lunch was naturally incredibly lavish. Looking at the table laden with dishes that looked and smelled delicious, Xiao Mengjie even began to doubt whether Xiao Weiguo and Xiao Jian shared the same parents.

How can there be such a big difference in cooking skills between brothers?

Gu Meiying also sat on one side of the table. Lacking self-control, her eyes were wide open, her gaze shifting back and forth between the dishes on the table and Xiao Weiguo's face.

It seems he knows who the real master of this house is.

Xiao Weiguo first handed her a pair of chopsticks.

"Auntie, eat whatever you like, don't be shy."

Gu Meiying didn't say anything, and of course she wasn't going to be polite to him.

With a broad smile, he picked up a large piece of fried chicken leg from the plate in front of him and began to happily gnaw on it.

"Come on, everyone, pick up your chopsticks and try your brother's cooking."

Xiao Weiguo waved his hand, and everyone at the table started eating, enjoying their meal.

During the meal, Xiao Weiguo nudged his younger brother Xiao Jian, who was sitting next to him.

"Xiao Jian, don't you feel that there's not enough space at home?"

Xiao Jian, who was eating with his head down, was taken aback at first, but then immediately understood what Xiao Weiguo meant.

He glanced thoughtfully at Hu Zi and Xiao Mengjie, then nodded.

"Yeah, there really is some truth to that."

He then asked Xiao Weiguo.

"Brother, what should we do? These are the only houses we have."

Xiao Weiguo smiled slightly.

"This afternoon, let's go to Dongpo together and see if there are any problems. If not, we'll contact the construction team to start work."

“Xiao Bai and I will be coming here often in the future, and we definitely need a place to stay. I think we should take this opportunity to have some people from the construction team come over and demolish and rebuild the old houses here. It won’t cost much, and it’s a convenient thing to do.”

“Once the house is built and there’s space, Mengjie, you and your daughter can move in too. When I’m not around, you can cook for them. With their cooking skills, I’m afraid they’ll starve to death here again.”
