Chapter 272 The Last Piece of Firewood

Jiao Bai looked at the fire without speaking or interrupting him.

He also wanted to learn more about Mr. Jiang and the Hongxing Society.

Yaji committed such a big crime and was caught by himself. As long as we can bring him back, the police will definitely not let him go.

If Yaji is truly important to Mr. Jiang, then this time we've really offended him badly.

This means that Panlong Group and Xiao Weiguo are not only facing the Bai brothers, but also Mr. Jiang behind them.

Therefore, Jiao Bai didn't mind getting more information from Yaji.

As a result, Yaji went on and on in his own language, while Jiao Bai listened quietly without saying a word.

Finally, after getting really annoyed by Jiao Bai's nagging, he said something indifferently.

"Stop dreaming. Think about how you'll die after you get out of here."

"Hold!"

Yaji cursed, knowing his words were useless against Jiao Bai, and leaned back, continuing to slack off by the warm fire. He stopped wasting his breath on Jiao Bai.

At this moment, the flames of the campfire began to diminish, and the wolves started to move closer again.

Jiao Bai jumped up again and broke off some dry branches from the withered tree.

Three or four hours later, the wolves showed no sign of leaving, still keeping a watchful eye on the two people from a distance.

The wolf's endurance and cunning exceeded Jiao Bai's imagination.

There was no other way but to jump up again and again to break branches off the dead tree. Because apart from this tree, there was no dry firewood to burn within a few steps.

There were some further away, in the woods over there, a large pack of wolves, their eyes fixed on them, not daring to leave the campfire even for a moment.

Looking at the large tree above, which had been broken down to its bare trunk and roots firmly embedded in the rock face, Jiao Bai tried several times, but the trunk did not budge; it was simply beyond human power to move.

As the amount of firewood that could be added decreased, the flames began to slowly diminish.

As the heatwave decreased, the wolf pack slowly moved closer. The greed and ferocity in their eyes were laid bare.

Some of them even bared their teeth and growled at them from time to time, as if they were about to attack at any moment.

Yaji lay on the ground, nervous, but seeing Jiao Bai jumping around, he began to gloat.

"We're doomed. If we don't catch a fever soon, we'll both be a pile of bones in an hour. What were you trying to achieve by going through all that trouble to catch me?"

Jiao Bai stopped breaking off the branches. The dead tree was basically no longer of any use unless there was a saw to cut off its trunk.

"I've heard that there's a lot of fat in the human body, and it burns really fast when you put it in a fire. If you keep talking nonsense, I'll throw you in the fire to see what happens. You're going to die sooner or later anyway."

Upon hearing this, Yaji immediately shut his mouth. This kid is so ruthless; if things come to the last moment, he might actually dare to throw him into the fire and burn him as firewood.

Seeing that Yaji had become docile, Xiao Bai didn't have time to argue with him and turned back to keep an eye on the wolf pack and the campfire.

Only a small pile of branches remained. If thrown into the fire, it would probably burn out in a few minutes. As the flames grew smaller and smaller, the wolves began to approach step by step.

Jiao Bai saw a large male wolf behind him and let out a fierce howl.

"Awoo~~"

The sound traveled far and wide, shaking the hearts of the people.

Yaji sat up from the ground with a thud.

"Oh no, the alpha wolf is commanding the pack to attack! Quick, add more fire!"

Jiao Bai didn't have time to say anything, and threw all the last of the dry firewood into the fire.

With a deafening roar, flames surged skyward once more, as if they too understood that this was their final moment of light. The leaping flames illuminated half the sky.

The intense heat caused Jiao Bai to take a step back. The bright firelight also instilled fear in the wolves that were poised to pounce, causing them to retreat en masse.

No matter how the male wolf howled, none of the wolves dared to step forward. Their innate fear of fire allowed them to temporarily break free from the alpha wolf's control.

However, the remaining firewood only lasted for about ten minutes before the flames began to slowly recede.

This gave the wolves the courage to attack. Urged on by the alpha wolf, they crouched low and slowly approached.

There was nothing left to burn. Jiao Bai looked around.

Ya Ye quickly stepped back, afraid that this guy really wouldn't be able to find firewood and would throw her into the fire.

Jiao Bai wasn't cruel enough to burn a living person; he was just trying to scare him.

Having determined that there was nothing left to start a fire, Jiao Bai picked up a handful of pebbles from the ground. He gripped his dagger in his left hand, ready for anything.

Time passed second by second.

The wolf pack formed a semi-encirclement and slowly moved forward.

The last embers flickered a few times before finally turning into a wisp of smoke in the night wind. Only a pile of flickering ash remained on the ground.

"Awooo!~~"

The alpha wolf howled again, and several wolves that were nearby bristled and pounced, howling.

Yaji's heart was in her throat, and she subconsciously shrank back.

At the same time, Jiao Bai's hand trembled, and a dozen or so pebbles shot out, heading straight for the gray wolves that were pouncing on them.

"Clap clap clap..."

A series of rapid blows were heard, and the wolves tumbled through the air and fell to the ground.
