Chapter 28 Feng Wanlin's Background

Feng Wanlin, who was writing with her head down, paused slightly upon hearing this. She looked up at Xiao Weiguo.

Seeing Xiao Weiguo's serious expression, it was clear he wasn't joking.

She gave Xiao Weiguo a thumbs-up.

"Little brother, you're great! I admire you."

Another little brother. Xiao Weiguo felt somewhat helpless.

Do you realize that if you were in ancient times, your status would be at least that of a princess? Can you please watch your manners when you speak?

Despite thinking this way, Xiao Weiguo understood that the person in front of him was a real shrewd catch, and it would be foolish not to take advantage of the opportunity.

"Sister Lin, you flatter me. You can just call me Weiguo."

He gave a forced, profound smile and gestured for Feng Wanlin to continue writing her contract.

You call me little brother, so it's okay if I call you Sister Lin, right?

He didn't call her Sister Feng, but Sister Lin. The difference of just one character clearly carries a different meaning.

Feng Wanlin didn't seem to care about these things and finished writing the contract in no time.

Two copies were made and handed to Xiao Weiguo together.

"Take a look. If there are no problems, we'll sign it right away."

Xiao Weiguo took it, glanced at it briefly, found nothing wrong, and then signed his name on it.

People in this era didn't have so many ulterior motives; terms like "word traps" and "contract fraud" simply didn't exist. Xiao Weiguo wasn't worried that someone with that kind of family background would deceive him.

After Feng Wanlin signed the papers, Xiao Weiguo took out the money from his pocket and started counting it.

Xiao Weiguo had planned to rent a house before leaving home, so he carried two thousand yuan with him.

Seeing him pull out so much money all at once, Feng Wanlin was a little curious.

"Weiguo, what do you do for a living? You seem quite well-off. I should have charged you more rent."

Xiao Weiguo knew she was joking, and answered casually while counting the money.

“I don’t have a proper job. My parents are gone, and I have four younger siblings. It’s too difficult, so I have to do some small business to support my family.”

"What? You're so young and you're already supporting a family on your own?"

Although Xiao Weiguo spoke with an air of maturity, he looked to be only seventeen or eighteen years old. She found it hard to imagine how such a grown child could have managed to keep his five siblings alive.

There's nothing we can do about it.

As Xiao Weiguo answered, he handed the counted 720 yuan to Feng Wanlin.

Feng Wanlin seemed hesitant as she took the money, her gaze shifting uncertainly as she looked at Xiao Weiguo.

"How about I decide to reduce your rent?"

Xiao Weiguo's family background touched this kind-hearted girl. She wondered if she had asked for too much.

Xiao Weiguo shook his head and laughed, "Sister Lin, what are you saying? How can we change what we've agreed on? I'm a man of my word, and I have to do what I say."

He pushed a stack of money in front of Feng Wanlin and then withdrew his hand.

"So, is our contract officially in effect from now on?"

Feng Wanlin nodded, looking at Xiao Weiguo thoughtfully.

"The keys are with Uncle Shang. Just have him give them to you when you get back."

Xiao Weiguo smiled and nodded, then left the office with the prince.

"Wait."

Just as they were about to leave, Feng Wanlin called him back.

Xiao Weiguo turned around and saw Feng Wanlin take out another piece of paper, write something on it, and then jog over to hand the paper to him.

"I'm leaving here for the capital the day after tomorrow. This is my home phone number in the capital. If you have any problems with the house or if you have any personal matters, you can call me here."

Logically, they should have just followed the contract and paid the rent when the lease expired, and there shouldn't have been any further involvement. But Feng Wanlin herself didn't know why, and inexplicably, she gave her phone number to the man she was meeting for the first time.

Xiao Weiguo took the phone number, said goodbye to Zhuang Wanlin again, and rode his bicycle away from the chemical plant with Grandpa Shang.

The two rode and chatted as they went.

"Xiao Xiao, don't be fooled by Wanlin's lively and cheerful personality; she's actually not having a good time."

"Oh? Uncle Shang, what do you mean by that?"

Xiao Weiguo was a little confused. What could possibly be wrong with a girl as privileged as Zhuang Wanlin?

"well!"

Grandpa Shang sighed softly.

“I watched Wanlin grow up from a young age. She was the youngest child in the family. Her two older brothers were not born to the same mother as her.”

“Her two older brothers, relying on their father’s high-ranking position in the province, are usually very domineering and they beat or scold their little sister.”

"Then, doesn't Feng Wanlin's mother care?"

Xiao Weiguo understood. The matriarch of the Feng family was Wanlin's biological mother. How could she watch her own daughter be bullied?

Grandpa Shang pedaled his bicycle with all his might to keep up with Xiao Weiguo's speed.

"Wanlin's mother was a lady from a respectable family. She was most afraid of outsiders saying that she, as a stepmother, had wronged her two children from her previous marriage. So even if she knew, she couldn't interfere too much. As a result, she only made her two sons more unruly."

Xiao Weiguo understood that being a stepmother was difficult; if one was not careful in dealing with the issue of biological children versus children from previous relationships, mistakes could easily occur.

If things go wrong, outsiders will criticize us behind our backs.

As a family member of a leader, Feng Wanlin's mother had no choice but to consider these things more.

"Only Wanlin's father is the best to his youngest daughter, but he can only come home once or twice a year. What's the use of being so good to her? Most of the time, she still has to live with her two older brothers."
