Chapter 29 Even More of a Scoundrel Than Me

The furniture in the yard was clearly not all moved due to transportation issues.

But they will definitely take away their clothes, bedding, and other valuables.

Xiao Weiguo's purpose in going to the supply and marketing cooperative was to purchase these daily necessities.

Each room was equipped with bedding such as blankets and pillows, and some daily necessities such as towels, soap, and slippers were also purchased.

He prepared all the pots, pans, and utensils he could think of for the kitchen.

We bought a few more beds from the furniture store according to the number of people and brought them all back to the courtyard.

They had to hire a donkey cart to carry all the stuff back.

That's all Xiao Weiguo can do for now. He's decided to bring Shanshan, Xiao Jiang, and Xiao Yue over tomorrow. If they need anything else, they can choose for themselves. No matter how smart Xiao Weiguo is, he can't possibly think of everything for his younger siblings.

After a flurry of activity, it was already evening. Xiao Weiguo checked his watch and realized it was almost time for the sock factory to close.

He immediately rode his bicycle to the entrance of the sock factory, to the place he had arranged with Liu Erzhu, and waited for Liu Erzhu to get off work so they could visit Liu Ye's uncle together.

Soon after, a bell rang, and a large number of workers poured out of the sock factory gate.

Xiao Weiguo stood by the roadside and immediately spotted Liu Erzhu riding out on his bicycle.

"Uncle, I'm here."

"Let's go, I'll take you there now."

Amidst the traffic, Liu Erzhu and Xiao Weiguo greeted each other, and the two rode together toward Liu Erzhu's brother-in-law's house.

On the way, they passed a supply and marketing cooperative. Xiao Weiguo got on the bus and bought two boxes of malted milk powder, two boxes of pastries, a box of tea, and a lot of fruit. He filled a large net bag to the brim.

He asked Liu Erzhu, who was a cultured man who neither drank nor smoked, so he didn't waste the money.

Gift-giving is an art. If it's too expensive, people won't dare to accept it; if it's too insignificant, people will look down on you. The key is to cater to their preferences.

Liu Erzhu's brother-in-law is named He Shaoxin. He is not yet fifty years old and is the director of teaching at the county's No. 1 Middle School. He does have some power.

But Teacher He is a bit old-fashioned, and a very conscientious and responsible comrade.

Teacher He also lives near the No. 1 Middle School, which is not too far from where Xiao Weiguo rents a house.

When they knocked on Teacher He's door, Liu Erzhu's older sister, Liu Chunhong, opened the door and welcomed them inside.

Teacher He was reading the newspaper in the living room when he saw a guest arrive. He took off his glasses and stood up.

After exchanging pleasantries, the guests and hosts took their seats.

Xiao Weiguo glanced at He Shaoxin's house.

It's about 50 square meters, divided into two bedrooms and a living room. The kitchen and toilet are so small that only one person can stand in them.

I heard that Teacher He has a son and a daughter. I wonder how they manage to live together.

Teacher He's son wasn't home, so his daughter, He Ye, came out and greeted her uncle.

When it was Xiao Weiguo's turn, she smiled gently and said, "Hello, Brother Weiguo, I am Liu Ye's cousin. I often hear her mention you."

She was Liu Ye's cousin, the same age as Liu Ye, and also her classmate. Liu Ye had often mentioned the name Xiao Weiguo, but this was the first time she had met him.

"Liu Ye, He Ye, your names are quite interesting."

Xiao Weiguo's words had a slightly teasing tone. The girl in front of him was pretty and charming. He didn't know if it was because of Liu Ye, but Xiao Weiguo felt a good impression of her as soon as he saw her.

He Ye wasn't reserved at all; instead, she smiled sweetly and said, "It's all because my uncle and father conspired to give us these names."

"This name is nice, and it suits you two very well."

He Ye poured each of them a cup of tea and then left, leaving the men alone.

"Uncle, thank you so much for taking care of my younger siblings. I don't know how to thank you enough."

According to the village's seniority system, Liu Ye's aunt is Liu Chunhong, so Xiao Weiguo should also call her aunt. Therefore, he also addresses He Shaoxin as uncle, which is correct.

“Weiguo, I’m helping you not because of anyone’s face. After Erzhu told me about your family’s situation, I felt very sorry for you. At the same time, I admire you for taking on the responsibility of the whole family at such a young age. That’s why I gave you some help with your younger siblings’ schooling. You don’t need to worry about it.”

Teacher He was deeply moved by Xiao Weiguo's story.

His son is the same age as Xiao Weiguo. He idles away his days, has no job, and hangs out with a bunch of shady characters, which gives his father a huge headache.

Then look at Xiao Weiguo. He's also young, but he's good at everything, both at home and outside. He's like a father and mother at home, and he can also earn money outside. He feels no pressure to lend a hand to such a good kid.

Of course, he didn't know about Xiao Weiguo's past deeds, and Liu Erzhu couldn't possibly tell him all of that.

After his words, Teacher He could not hide his admiration. Even Xiao Weiguo, who was thick-skinned, blushed with pride and said he didn't deserve it.

Just then, the door opened, and a young man dressed in flamboyant clothes with long hair walked in.

Seeing that there were guests in the house, he didn't even say hello and went straight into another bedroom.

Xiao Weiguo guessed that this must be Teacher He's son.

Soon after, the sound of He Ye arguing with him could be heard from inside.

Teacher He looked angry, his face turning extremely gloomy.

Xiao Weiguo and Liu Erzhu looked at each other, not understanding what had happened.

Liu Chunhong rushed in to mediate the fight.

A moment later, He Ye ran out crying.

She shouted at her father while wiping away her tears.

"Dad, are you going to do anything about your son? He actually made me go out drinking with his bunch of shady friends. What kind of person does he take me for?"
