Not long after, He Shuang was beaten black and blue by her uncle and started crying loudly.
Xiao Weiguo watched with amusement, offering no advice, only hoping that Liu Erzhu would use even more force to cripple the kid.
It was Liu Chunhong who couldn't bear to watch any longer and went up to hug her younger brother.
"Erzhu, stop hitting him, or you'll kill him."
He Shuang seized the opportunity to break free from her uncle's hold. She rolled to the side and stood up.
"Fine, fine, you old bastard, you dare hit me? You just wait, I'll have my buddies kill you sooner or later."
Upon hearing this, Liu Erzhu became even more furious.
Like a mad bull, he charged towards He Shuang again. But his sister held him tightly around the waist, preventing him from charging.
He Shuang realized things were going badly; if things weren't handled properly, this old guy might actually cripple him.
Startled, she turned around, opened the door, and ran away without looking back.
Seeing that he couldn't catch up, Liu Erzhu was panting heavily with anger.
He suddenly shook off his sister's arm and loudly questioned, "Sister, look at how well you've spoiled your son. If he continues like this, he'll ruin your whole family."
Liu Chunhong wiped away her tears and sighed, "What can I do? He only has this one son. I can't just let him die, can I?"
He Shaoxin slumped down on the wooden sofa in defeat and said fiercely, "It would have been better if he had died. What sins have I committed to raise such a bastard?"
By this time, He Ye had stopped crying and helped her mother into the inner room.
The three men sat down again.
Looking at his silent brother-in-law, Liu Erzhu didn't know what to say.
It's not what my brother-in-law wanted for his son to turn out this way. He's busy at school every day and neglects to discipline his son. My sister spoiled him since he was a child, which is why He Shuang is like this today.
Xiao Weiguo wanted to say something to comfort Teacher He several times, but he held back. After all, it was a family matter, and it was only natural for Liu Erzhu, as the uncle, to interfere. As an outsider, it would be superfluous for him to say anything.
The atmosphere at home was oppressive, and the two of them couldn't sit there any longer.
After saying goodbye, Xiao Weiguo and Liu Erzhu rode their bicycles silently home.
Looking at Liu Erzhu, who remained silent in front of him, Xiao Weiguo's heart began to pound.
I never imagined that my future father-in-law, who is usually not very talkative, would be so fierce.
If Liu Chunhong hadn't stopped him today, that kid He Shuang would have been seriously injured, if not crippled.
I must treat Liu Ye well from now on and never give my father-in-law a chance to lose his temper.
Xiao Weiguo pondered that his physique might not be as strong as He Shuang's.
By the time they reached the village entrance, it was already dark. The two said goodbye at the entrance and went home separately.
At home, Liu Ye had already gone back by herself. Xiao Shanshan had prepared dinner and was waiting for her older brother to return.
The two little ones huddled together under the dim light bulb, playing some kind of game.
Seeing his younger brother and sister, Xiao Weiguo felt a sense of relief.
Compared to this family, nothing else matters; only family members are indispensable.
"Brother, you're back."
The first person to see him enter was Shanshan. She went up to him, took his bicycle, and parked it for him. Turning to him, she asked, "Brother, how did things go?"
"Yes, the school arrangements are settled, and we've rented a place. We'll move tomorrow, and I'll take you there to see it."
Xiao Shanshan looked at her older brother with surprise and disbelief.
Really?
Xiao Jiang and Xiao Yue jumped out upon hearing the news.
They each held onto Xiao Weiguo's arm, their young faces tilted up, looking expectantly at their older brother.
"Big brother, is what you're saying true? Can we move to the city tomorrow?"
Xiao Weiguo gently stroked their hair and chuckled softly, "Of course, why would your older brother lie to you? We'll move to the city and live in a big house tomorrow."
"Oh, that's great! We're going to stay in the city."
The two little ones jumped and skipped around, having a wonderful time.
Xiao Jiang seemed to suddenly remember something, and turned to run out the door.
But Shan Shan pulled him back.
It's so late, where are you going? Go wash your hands, we're about to eat.
“Sister, Ergaozi went to the city once and he’s been bragging to me every day about how great the city is. I’m going to tell him that our family will be living in the city from now on, and see if he still brags.”
His serious expression made Xiao Weiguo and Shanshan want to laugh, but in the end, Xiao Shanshan put on a stern face and dragged him back.
"We can talk about it tomorrow. My brother came back late today and is hungry. Let's eat first."
Hearing that his older brother was hungry, Xiao Jiang suppressed his urge to show off. He and Xiao Yue obediently went to wash their hands and faces.
That night, all the siblings except Xiao Weiguo suffered from insomnia.
Even Xiao Jiang and Xiao Yue, who usually fall asleep the moment their heads hit the pillow, barely slept a wink that night.
Their heightened excitement kept them awake until dawn.
All night long, Xiao Shanshan seemed to see happiness beckoning to them. Her brother's change had brought about a dramatic transformation to their family, which had been burdened with so much suffering.
As soon as it was light, Xiao Shanshan got up and started packing her things, while Xiao Weiguo went to Liu Ye's house.
Liu Qing had just gotten up and was urinating on the locust tree outside the gate.
Seeing Xiao Weiguo approaching from afar, he pulled up his pants and ran, then turned around and blocked the gate, preventing Xiao Weiguo from entering.
Xiao Weiguo's thick skin is something no little kid like him can match.
