At first, Zhang Fan had some concerns and fears, and only cautiously used the funds in his small vault.
Each time he placed a bet, he would silently console himself.
"Losing is losing, it's no big deal. I don't care about such a small amount of money, I just treat it as a form of entertainment."
However, human desires are like a bottomless pit, impossible to fill.
Gradually, as he participated in gambling more often, his gambling addiction grew stronger.
Soon, the meager savings he had accumulated were completely squandered.
Zhang Fan did not stop there; instead, he became increasingly addicted to it and could not extricate himself.
In order to continue satisfying his gambling addiction, he began to fabricate various lies to deceive his wife, claiming that the company needed funds for operation.
The kind and trusting wife had no suspicions and handed over the family's hard-earned savings to Zhang Fan one by one.
And so, the family's savings were ruthlessly poured into this bottomless pit.
Later, Zhang Fan became even bolder and started targeting the company's cash flow.
He secretly embezzled public funds for gambling, completely disregarding the serious consequences this would have on the company.
As time went on, the company's financial situation gradually deteriorated, and normal cash flow began to face enormous difficulties.
Sometimes, the payment for urgently needed raw materials suddenly disappears, causing production to be delayed and business to be greatly affected.
Because of the frequent occurrence of such incidents, the company's reputation has plummeted.
Customers developed doubts and dissatisfaction with this once reputable company, and many chose to cooperate with other suppliers.
Faced with such a predicament, Zhang Fan had already become blinded by greed and lost all reason.
For him, video game consoles seemed to have a fatal attraction; once he was hooked, it was hard to get out.
When the company ran out of cash for him to embezzle, Zhang Fan, having nowhere else to turn, had no choice but to rely on his past connections and shamelessly borrow money from friends, colleagues, and even business partners.
It should be noted that before this, Zhang Fan had always been an upright and trustworthy person, but now he has embarked on this path of no return because of gambling.
At first, it was very easy for him to borrow money.
When he first asked others for help, no one suspected anything.
However, as time went on, people gradually noticed something was amiss—after each loan, he never mentioned repaying the money!
Moreover, he borrowed money more and more frequently, as if there was no end to it.
Finally, this unusual situation aroused everyone's vigilance and suspicion.
After all, no one would willingly lend their hard-earned money to someone who has no credit and keeps making demands.
As the saying goes, "You can't hide fire forever."
One day, like a volcanic eruption, all his debts burst forth, creating a massive disaster.
At this moment, what awaits him is the bitter fruit of his gambling addiction.
His company, which he had painstakingly built, was ruthlessly liquidated and declared bankrupt. Angry creditors swarmed to his door, blocking the entrance and demanding repayment of their debts.
At this point, Zhang Fan was no longer the business prodigy who dominated the business world in people's minds, nor was he a pioneer who led the trend of the times.
Now he has become a complete gambler, with a notorious reputation.
His parents were so angry about this that they almost fainted, and their health deteriorated rapidly, causing them to both fall ill and be bedridden.
His father, in particular, was already old and frail. After this blow, his condition worsened, and he coughed incessantly day and night, rapidly losing weight.
Despite seeking medical help everywhere, they were ultimately unable to save him, and he passed away in less than a month, leaving them forever.
His wife, who has always been so gentle, virtuous, and understanding, how could she possibly bear such a terrible situation?
Every morning when I open my door, I see a group of menacing creditors blocking the entrance, clamoring and demanding payment. It's a truly terrifying scene.
Even something as simple as going out to buy groceries would be followed by a large group of debt collectors, never letting her have a moment's peace.
Living in fear and anxiety day after day would be unbearable for anyone, wouldn't it?
Finally, under immense pressure, his wife made a difficult decision—to divorce him and resolutely take their young son back to her parents' home.
At this point, this once warm and happy little family completely fell apart and was torn to pieces.
However, fate did not seem to intend to let him off the hook.
The creditors remained relentless, pressing him relentlessly. Left with no other choice, he had to give up even his last refuge to pay off the debts, hoping to temporarily quell their anger.
And so, penniless and homeless, he had no choice but to move back to his old, dilapidated home with his elderly and frail mother.
As he spoke, Zhang Fan slowly reached out and tightly gripped the cold beer glass in front of him.
Then, he suddenly raised his arm, brought the glass to his lips, and gulped down the wine.
