After hearing his son's words, Xiao Changsuo was stunned for a moment. Then, his face, which had turned red with anger, gradually calmed down, but his eyes still gleamed with resentment.
He said through gritted teeth.
"Yes! Do as you say! Go and bring that mother and daughter back to me! As long as we're not divorced, Gu Meiying is my daughter-in-law. How can she live in someone else's house?"
It turns out that recently, Xiao Changsuo and his youngest son Xiao Lian have been living a life that feels like an eternity.
Their lives became increasingly difficult, and they struggled to even solve basic food and clothing problems.
In stark contrast, the eldest daughter-in-law, Gu Meiying, is now recovering her condition and is no different from that of an ordinary person.
What made Xiao Changsuo even more unhappy was that Gu Meiying was currently at Xiao Jian's house, not only frequently helping with housework but also keeping everything in perfect order.
Moreover, they sometimes take great care of the vegetables they grow in their own fields, making the vegetable garden full of vitality.
Let's look at the eldest granddaughter, Xiao Mengjie.
She has now grown into a young woman of about eighteen years old.
She has grown into a beautiful and charming young woman with a graceful figure and a lovely face.
If a girl like that were kept at home, she would be an invaluable helper, completely equivalent to a strong laborer!
Besides, Xiao Mengjie is of marriageable age. With her pretty face, she could get a considerable dowry when she gets married, enough for the father and son to live on for a while.
Thinking of this, Xiao Changsuo's dissatisfaction grew even stronger.
Nowadays, Xiao Jian's courtyard house is truly magnificent and imposing, far more beautiful than those stylish Western-style houses in the city!
The mother and son lived in this courtyard house, and every day, looking at the carved beams and painted rafters, pavilions and towers, they felt as if they were in a fairyland.
Moreover, Xiao Jian is incredibly wealthy these days; the one thing he has in abundance is money!
Therefore, their share of all expenses in his household would naturally not be lacking.
And so, the mother and daughter lived a very comfortable and carefree life, just like immortals.
However, Xiao Changsuo and his son could not tolerate all of this.
We're all family, after all. Why should we let my son and I suffer from hunger and cold here, while you and your mother can enjoy a peaceful and comfortable life there?
So, after some secret planning and discussion, the father and son finally made up their minds that they had to get them back from Xiao Jian's house.
Because once we bring them back, they can help with household chores, such as cooking and cleaning.
Moreover, they can go down to the fields to do some farm work, so that the whole family won't go hungry all year round.
As for whether they want to come back or not... Hmph, you are members of the Xiao family. Do you think you two women can decide anything?
However, Xiao Lian would never dare to come here alone.
Back then, he witnessed a chilling scene with his own eyes, separated only by a thin door panel.
Jiao Bai actually smashed an entire, incredibly hard brick into his yard with just one punch!
Even today, that brick remains quietly embedded there, as if it has become an eternal warning sign.
It wasn't that they didn't want to remove the unsightly brick; it was simply that it was deeply embedded in the ground, and no matter how hard they tried to dig it out, they couldn't move it an inch.
Faced with such terrifying power, Xiao Lian was filled with fear and awe. He did not want to one day be like that poor brick, mercilessly embedded in the cold ground.
So, after racking his brains and thinking hard, he finally decided to persuade his father, Xiao Changxiao, to come.
It should be noted that Xiao Changsuo was not without fear of Jiao Bai, but now that his family was living in such dire straits, almost to the point of desperation, what else did he have to worry about?
There's an old saying that goes, "Poverty breeds cunning, while wealth fosters conscience."
And so, Xiao Changsuo gritted his teeth, hardened his heart, temporarily put aside his fear, and resolutely did as his son said.
Anyway, he's already halfway to the grave, just an old man with nothing but bones. Does Jiao Bai really dare to chop him into eight pieces?
Thinking this, the father and son soon arrived at the courtyard house. Xiao Lian followed his father with his hands tightly clasped together, trembling and timid as if walking on thin ice, his eyes darting around furtively at the heavy, ancient gate of the courtyard house.
This quiet and elegant courtyard house unfolds like a beautiful painting before your eyes, with pavilions and towers scattered in a well-organized manner, and lush flowers, trees and shrubs, making people unable to help but be intoxicated and yearn for it.
Looking at the beautiful scenery before him, Xiao Lian was filled with envy and longing.
Looking back at his own dilapidated, crumbling house, it seemed nothing compared to this, not even a doghouse could compare.
At this moment, the flame of jealousy deep within him burned ever brighter, becoming increasingly intense and unbearable.
How wonderful and blissful it would be to stay in such a place!
