Xiao Changsuo lowered his head like a child who had made a mistake, not daring to meet Hu Zi's sharp, hawk-like gaze.
His lips moved slightly, emitting a whisper as faint as a mosquito's buzz.
"What's your name... and what does it have to do with us?"
Although he deliberately lowered his voice, his faint words seemed to possess some kind of magic, reaching Tiger's ears without missing a single one.
Upon hearing this, Tiger first raised the corners of his mouth slightly, and then nodded gently.
His face was as gloomy as the sky before a storm, and he spoke slowly in a low, suppressed voice.
“You’re right, we were completely unrelated before. However, now that things have come to this, even if I’m reluctant to admit it, we’re likely to be connected in the future.”
"What?!"
Upon hearing this, Xiao Changsuo and his father beside him exclaimed in shock, their faces filled with disbelief.
The two looked at each other, stunned by Tiger's nonsensical remarks.
After regaining his senses, Xiao Changsuo instantly regained some courage, after all, he was used to walking around the village with his head held high.
At this moment, he suddenly straightened up, his neck stiffened in a defiant stare at Hu Zi, his eyebrows furrowed tightly together, looking exactly like two tangled caterpillars.
He shouted.
"What nonsense are you spouting? What do we have to do with you?"
As he spoke, he waved his arms vigorously, as if trying to dispel the unease and doubt in his heart.
Tiger stared at him silently, his eyes deep and sharp, as if they could penetrate the other's soul.
Then, Tiger's previously tense lips curled up slightly, forming a barely perceptible curve.
However, despite this, he kept his lips tightly shut and did not utter a single word from beginning to end.
Immediately afterwards, Hu Zi suddenly turned around and walked straight toward Xiao Mengjie, who was still tightly holding her mother's arm, with firm and powerful steps.
When he was only a few steps away from Xiao Mengjie, Hu Zi stopped. He took a deep breath, as if gathering all his courage, and then slowly raised his right arm, extending his long and broad palm towards Xiao Mengjie.
At the same time, Hu Zi's resolute face gradually became more solemn and dignified, every line revealing his seriousness and persistence at this moment.
Finally, Tiger mustered his courage and spoke in a deep, magnetic voice.
"Mengjie, will you be my girlfriend and marry me?"
These words were like a bombshell, instantly exploding in the crowd.
For a moment, the entire scene fell into a deathly silence, with only Hu Zi's affectionate words echoing in the air.
A few seconds later, gasps of surprise began to rise from the crowd.
"Huh?" "Huh?" "Huh?"...
Exclamations of amazement mingled together, forming a unique symphony.
Clearly, everyone present was stunned by the sudden scene before them.
They simply couldn't imagine that Tiger, who was usually introverted and taciturn, would choose such a setting, in front of everyone, to speak such straightforward and passionate words of love without any pretense.
Only Jiao Bai, who was standing to the side, was slightly taken aback, clearly shocked by Hu Zi's actions.
But after only a moment, his slightly surprised expression quickly returned to normal, replaced by a genuine smile of satisfaction.
Jiao Bai couldn't help but secretly admire him.
"Good lad! You have indeed not disappointed your master. You are bold and decisive, truly a fine disciple of Jiao Bai!"
As he thought about it, Jiao Bai nodded involuntarily, and at the same time, he silently praised his beloved disciple several times in his heart.
However, Xiao Mengjie was, after all, a girl who grew up in that simple rural village, and her ideas and values were relatively conservative compared to those of city girls. Although she had long been in love with Hu Zi, this feeling was kept buried deep in both of their hearts, and neither of them had ever easily uttered a word of it.
Many times, Xiao Mengjie would unconsciously fantasize about the happy scene of walking into a bright future with Hu Zi.
Those images, like beautiful paintings, kept flashing through her mind. She never expected that Tiger would choose such a public, high-profile occasion to so bravely and directly confess his love to her.
In an instant, Xiao Mengjie was stunned, as if time had frozen.
Her once bright and lively eyes now looked somewhat lost and helpless, completely unsure how to deal with this sudden situation.
She was clearly thinking of responding loudly to Hu Zi.
"I do! I really, really do!"
But that usually eloquent and persuasive little mouth seemed to be under a spell at this moment; no matter how hard she tried, she just couldn't utter a complete sentence smoothly.
She stammered "I...I..." for a long time, unable to utter any other words besides these two simple words.
In addition, the shyness unique to young girls welled up in her heart, causing her cheeks to instantly turn a rosy blush, as delicate and tempting as a ripe apple.
Tiger stood firmly in place like a statue, his broad and powerful right hand stretched straight towards Xiao Mengjie's direction, his eyes unwavering, as if he could grasp the faint but unseen fate between them with this one gesture.
