Chapter 64 An inconspicuous little restaurant

"Sister Lin, that's impressive! You've even reached the Grand Crown level."

Xiao Weiguo sat in the car and surveyed his surroundings.

Genuine leather seats, luxurious interior, orange-yellow wood trim in the front, and various electronic dashboards—it's dazzling.

Xiao Weiguo couldn't help but sigh that in this era, the gap between the domestic and foreign car manufacturing industries was enormous.

Thinking back to our past lives, how much hardship, effort, and sweat did the Chinese people endure and how did they gradually reach that point, from nothing to becoming the world's largest automobile exporter?

Currently, this Crown can definitely be considered one of the top luxury cars in China.

According to Xiao Weiguo, the selling price at the time would not have been less than 500,000.

In an era when pork cost just over one yuan per kilogram, what kind of concept is 500,000?

Feng Wanlin giggled as she drove.

"Little brother, you think too highly of me. This kind of car is far beyond what a mere researcher like me could afford."

“This is my friend’s car in the provincial capital. Her whole family immigrated abroad. This car is too expensive and they haven’t been able to sell it, so they’ve left it with me. I didn’t ride my bicycle today, so I drove it out to pick you up.”

Upon hearing this, Xiao Weiguo realized that this princess was also a member of the cycling community, just like him.

"Sister Lin, I came here this time because I need to ask you for a favor. You're familiar with this area, so could you see if there's a quiet restaurant or something? We can sit down and talk while we eat."

Xiao Weiguo couldn't find a restaurant he liked nearby, so he simply passed the problem on to Feng Wanlin.

"Haha, little brother, you want to treat me to a meal? I actually have a great place, I'll take you there."

With that, Feng Wanlin stepped on the gas and drove straight down the road.

We drove for a long time, and after leaving the city, we headed south. This area is now mountainous.

Nestled among the mountains, a small courtyard comes into view, with its blue tiles and stone walls, exuding a rustic charm.

After finding an open space and parking the car, Feng Wanlin led Xiao Weiguo inside.

"This is it?"

Xiao Weiguo was somewhat surprised.

There wasn't even a sign at the entrance, and I didn't see any staff. It didn't look like a restaurant at all.

Zhuang Wanlin smiled mysteriously.

"Don't you like this place? You'll find out soon enough."

At that moment, an old man wearing a white apron came out of the house to greet them.

"Wanlin is here. Come in and sit down. It's the usual spot, we've saved it for you."

From his tone, it was clear that Feng Wanlin was a regular customer here.

"Uncle Cheng, I brought a friend here for dinner today. Bring out some of your family's specialties so my friend can try them."

"Okay, wait inside for a moment, it will be ready soon."

Following Feng Wanlin into the house, Xiao Weiguo saw through the window that behind the house, there was a long row of seven or eight large iron pots.

The firewood below was burning brightly, and steam was rising from the pot.

We arrived at the westernmost room, which was spotless. The room was small and had little furniture.

A kang (heated brick bed) was set up against the south wall, with a kang table on it, where cups for drinking water and a teapot were placed.

"Please sit down."

Feng Wanlin called out, then took off her shoes and climbed onto the earthen bed to sit down.

Seeing this, Xiao Weiguo had no choice but to take off his shoes and sit opposite her.

"Sister Lin, do you come here often?"

While looking around the room, Xiao Weiguo tried to make conversation.

Feng Wanlin lowered her head, took a sip of water, and answered.

“When my father was in the provincial capital, every time I visited him, he would take me to this restaurant. Don’t be fooled by its unassuming appearance; it’s very famous among the bureaucratic circles in the provincial capital. Their food is excellent; you’ll see once you try it.”

"Oh, now that you mention it, I'm really looking forward to it."

The two chatted idly while waiting for their food to be served.

It has been almost three months since we last met in Shang County. When we last met, Feng Wanlin was straightforward and generous, and Xiao Weiguo was mature and humorous. Both of them had a very good first impression of each other.

So even though it was only the second time we met, there wasn't much of a sense of unfamiliarity.

Soon, the dishes were served one after another.

The first dish is Jiaonan's specialty firewood chicken.

Free-range chickens stir-fried in a large iron wok with dry firewood may not look particularly special, but they taste incredibly tender and flavorful, bursting with the aroma of smoky cooking.

This immediately reminded Xiao Weiguo of the chicken his mother used to cook when he was a child.

Although the dish he's eating now tastes better, he misses the memories of his childhood even more.

Then came a spicy stewed rabbit dish.

It is also a famous local specialty dish in Jiaonan.

One bite, and it's both numbing and spicy, incredibly fresh and fragrant. A ring of flatbread was stuck along the edge of the pot; having been steamed in the broth, it had already absorbed the flavors perfectly. Eating it with the rabbit meat was absolutely satisfying.

After serving two more refreshing cold dishes, the old man told them that the portions were too large and that these were enough for two people. If they weren't satisfied, they could ask for more after they finished eating.

Indeed, both meat dishes were served in large bowls, clearly whole chickens and rabbits. Even the plates used for the two cold dishes were shockingly large.

Normally, even four people, let alone two, couldn't finish all this food.

"The wine is in the vat; help yourself if you want some."

After the old man finished speaking, he left, leaving the two of them alone.

Xiao Weiguo then noticed a large vat in the corner, covered with a red silk cloth.
