Xiao Wenjin lit his cigarette with Xiao Weiguo's lighter, took a puff, and then said with a smile.
"Wei Guo, you wouldn't come to our hall without a reason. Your great-grandfather has shamelessly come to ask you for a favor."
When Xiao Weiguo heard him say that, he knew that he had come about recruiting workers.
In the past few days, many villagers have come to him about this matter. Xiao Weiguo, concerned about his reputation, has agreed to all requests as long as the conditions are reasonable. After all, he's just using whoever he wants, and as long as they don't make any unreasonable demands, he doesn't need to turn away people from the whole village.
However, there are some who simply don't meet the requirements, such as those who haven't even graduated from elementary school but still want to work in the factory. Xiao Weiguo can't give them any face in such cases.
Once such a breach is opened, it's difficult to close it again.
Sure enough, Xiao Wenjin pulled the young man sitting to the side over and introduced him to Xiao Weiguo.
"This is my eldest son, named Xiao Baojun. You used to play together a lot when you were little. Do you remember him?"
Xiao Weiguo still remembered Xiao Baojun; the two were about the same age and from the same village, so it was impossible for them not to know each other.
Xiao Baojun is two years older than him, so he should be twenty-one this year. He was the leader of the kids in their neighborhood when he was young, and he's a pretty righteous person.
Moreover, his grandfather was the village secretary, and his family was better off than most. He took good care of the children, and would never hide food or drink from them.
He was two years ahead of Xiao Weiguo and Liu Ye's group of students, so they didn't play together much after they started school.
I heard he was a good student and got into high school, though not the top high school in the county. Later, I heard that for some reason, he dropped out and didn't graduate from high school.
"Brother Baojun, of course I remember. He helped me fight against people from other villages when we were kids."
Xiao Weiguo smiled and went over to shake hands with Xiao Baojun.
When I was a child, I was mischievous. After school, I would often throw clods of dirt at the kids from the next village across the river, indulging in a game of tag.
Whenever their side was at a disadvantage, Xiao Baojun, who was two years older than them, would always lead a few of the older children across the river to disperse the opposing side.
Xiao Weiguo still vividly remembers that time; it was the happiest time of his childhood.
Xiao Baojun smiled generously.
"Back then, I never imagined that you, the most mischievous mud monkey, would become the chairman of the board."
Xiao Weiguo scratched his head and chuckled.
"Brother Baojun, I heard you didn't finish high school. Why was that?"
Upon hearing this, Xiao Baojun's face flushed red.
