Chapter 9: A Close Call

"Qiaowa, this job is very important to your dad. Let's stop arguing, okay?"

Third Master Lu pulled Lu Siqiao aside and earnestly advised her.

Seeing that they treated her like an unreasonable and unruly child, Lu Siqiao was unable to explain herself.

For the sake of having a complete family, she looked at Lu Mingfeng with a pitiful expression: "Daddy, Qiao Wa's tummy hurts—"

"You child, still making a fuss!" Li Yan was furious.

Lu Mingfeng stopped her, saying, "Mr. Li, I believe Qiao Wa'er wouldn't lie. I'm sorry, I'll take my daughter to the pharmacy to get some medicine first, and I'll be back soon!"

Upon hearing that he had actually turned back, Li Yan became even angrier: "Lu Mingfeng, if you delay the delivery, I'm not finished with you!"

But Lu Mingfeng ignored her, put Lu Siqiao on the truck, and drove towards the city.

About half an hour later, he returned with Lu Siqiao, whose complexion had improved considerably.

"You will be held responsible for your recklessness!" Li Yan got into the car angrily, and then didn't say a word to Lu Mingfeng.

Lu Mingfeng focused on driving, his expression serious.

Hopefully she hadn't misremembered the time; Lu Siqiao wished she could shrink herself into an ostrich.

Fortunately, Third Master Lu patted her on the back, indicating that she was alright.

The truck braked suddenly!

Li Yan was jolted awake from her slumber and angrily shouted, "Lu Mingfeng, what do you want now—ah!!" Upon seeing the scene before her, she screamed and was speechless for a long time.

All that could be seen ahead was mud and rubble, and next to it was an overturned car; it was unclear whether the people inside were dead or alive.

Just like Lu Siqiao said.

Landslide!

If Lu Siqiao hadn't gone to the pharmacy, they might be the ones buried in the ground!

Complete silence.

Master Lu felt a sense of relief, as if he had survived a disaster. He hugged Lu Siqiao from behind and said excitedly, "Qiaowa'er, thank goodness you're here!"

"Turn back immediately!" Li Yan quickly adjusted her mindset and gave the order.

Lu Mingfeng ignored her, opened the car door and got out. When he arrived at the car, he found that the driver inside was still alive, so he called for Third Master Lu to come over and break the window to rescue the person.

Li Yan stamped her foot anxiously and said, "Why are you meddling in other people's business? If we don't leave now, we'll be too late!"

Lu Siqiao stood to the side, her face streaked with tears, and said, "Compared to human lives, what is a little money?"

She did it! She finally changed her fate from her past life!

She hugged her arms and sobbed uncontrollably.

Lu Mingfeng carried a fat man on his back and said urgently, "Boss Li, I need to get the man to the city hospital first, and then deliver the goods later!"

He settled the injured person into a chair and then invited everyone to get in the car.

Li Yan looked at him with a resentful expression, as if she had lost all will to live.

It was late at night, and there wasn't a single car on the road.

Lu Siqiao reached out and touched the fat man beside her. He was groaning and clearly in great pain.

Third Master Lu pressed a towel against the bloody wound on his shoulder and sighed, "With so much blood lost, this is probably not good."

No one understands the despair of death better than Lu Siqiao.

Lu Mingfeng's freight job is gone. If he can't even save the person, wouldn't it all be for nothing?

Lu Siqiao thought of the magical potion in her space, and with a thought, a small bottle of mineral water appeared in her hand.

"Uncle, have some water." She fed the fat man the remaining third of the medicine, thinking that all her efforts had at least kept him alive.

Lu Mingfeng sped to the hospital, paid a 100 yuan deposit, and only breathed a sigh of relief after watching the fat man being wheeled into the operating room.

"Dad, I'll stay here and wait for you to come back and pick me up," Lu Siqiao said softly, feeling a little scared when she saw Li Yan's pale face.

Lu Mingfeng told her not to wander around, and then took Lu Sanye to deliver the goods.

Lu Siqiao stayed at the hospital until noon when the fat man was finally wheeled out of the operating room.

It was the same old doctor from last time. Seeing Lu Siqiao all alone here, he asked in surprise, "Little girl, where are your parents?"

Lu Siqiao had no choice but to tell him about her adoptive father delivering the goods.

Upon learning that they had done a good deed by acting bravely, the old doctor patted her head and said, "Fortunately, you rescued her in time, otherwise, she would have died."

Thanks to the magical potion in the space.

Lu Siqiao thought to herself.

When evening came, the fat man woke up and, after learning what had happened, said to Lu Siqiao, "Little girl, thank you all so much. Don't worry, I, Luo Haozhong, will repay you!"

Lu Siqiao said earnestly, "We saved you not to repay your kindness. Take good care of yourself, and when you have money later, remember to return the hundred yuan to my dad."

"Definitely, definitely!" Luo Haozhong hurriedly replied, "A thousand yuan isn't too much!"

After he fell asleep, Lu Siqiao went out, only to see Third Master Lu and his son walking in with heavy expressions.

"Grandpa, Dad, has the goods arrived?" Lu Siqiao greeted them hopefully.

Lu Mingfeng nodded, and upon learning that Luo Haozhong had escaped with his life, he said with a wry smile, "Fortunately, he's alright. We can consider it a good deed."

Third Master Lu comforted them, saying, "As long as the family is together, money can be earned back."

When Lu Siqiao got home, she learned that Li Mingfeng had been fired by the freight company because he was late in delivering goods and Li Yan had complained about him.

"Dad, it's my fault. I made you lose your job."

Lu Siqiao came to the courtyard and looked at Lu Mingfeng and his wife with a heavy heart.

Lu Mingfeng's eyes softened: "Qiaowa'er, it has nothing to do with you. On the contrary, you saved Grandpa and Dad's lives."

Luo Xiaoxue hugged her tightly and said with relief, "Silly girl, without you, this family would have fallen apart."
