Zhang Jianhao and his group searched the woods on both sides of the national highway. The night was thick, and the only sound was the rustling of leaves in the wind.
Every shadow may conceal a deadly danger.
Li Qiming gripped his gun tightly, carefully pushed aside the bushes blocking his path, and walked toward the pile of boulders blocking his way.
"Don't move!"
Zhang Cheng's voice suddenly rang out from the channel, icy and chilling.
Li Qiming's toes almost touched the edge of the stone. He froze abruptly upon hearing the sound, and cold sweat instantly soaked his back.
He looked in the direction of the sound and saw that the canal was empty except for wild grass swaying in the moonlight.
"Brother?" Li Qiming lowered his voice.
"Go around to see what's behind the rock!"
Li Qiming composed himself and, as instructed, went around to the back of the pile of stones.
He gasped.
Several packets of homemade explosives, wrapped in oil paper, with their fuses clearly visible, lay quietly in the shady spot of the pile of stones.
This is the thing they use to blast the mountain in the village.
If he had moved it carelessly just now, it would be a pile of minced meat by now.
Li Qiming felt his scalp tingle and was filled with lingering fear.
Zhang Cheng, at this moment, was like a lifeless rock, lurking deep in the bushes behind the canal, his body covered with withered leaves.
He blended into the darkness. His gaze, sharp as a hawk's, swept over every suspicious corner.
The enemy is very cunning and has extremely sophisticated methods of concealment.
Zhang Cheng was very patient, like a lone wolf waiting for its prey to appear.
Li Qiming circled back to the Santana, his voice tense: "There's explosives hidden behind the rock! If Brother Gou doesn't speak up, I'm done for!"
Zhang Jianhao frowned deeply: "Where's Brother Gou?"
"How would I know!" Li Qiming shrugged.
Zhang Jianhao didn't ask any more questions, his eyes shifting:
"Since Brother Dog made us wait, we can't just sit idly by. Let's see if there's anything usable in the car and set up a few tripwires."
Zhang Tian gripped his waistband tightly with both hands, his face as pale as paper, his teeth chattering.
"Gentlemen, it's safer for us to stay in the car."
"Hiding in the car waiting to get shot?" Li Qiming glanced at him disdainfully.
Zhang Jianhao pulled out several pieces of hemp rope from the trunk and distributed them to everyone: "Hurry up and make a few snares nearby."
Katsuko found a tree branch more than three meters long, held it in her hand, and swept it left and right in front of her, forcing any hidden enemies to show themselves.
Li Weibing picked up a handful of pebbles and kept throwing them into the particularly dense bushes in the darkness by the roadside.
Li Qiming held his gun, keeping a watchful eye on everything around him, ready to fire a bullet at any unusual movement.
"elder brother!"
Katsuko suddenly let out a short gasp.
A dark figure pounced down from a large tree in front of him like a cheetah, instantly pinning him to the ground.
A hand like an iron clamp gripped his throat tightly.
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
Li Qiming reacted extremely quickly, turning around abruptly and firing two shots.
Almost simultaneously, Zhang Cheng, who had been lying in wait, suddenly stood up, and the cold muzzle of his gun spat out flames.
The bullets whizzed past, but all missed.
Katsuko felt a sharp pain in her neck, as if it were being crushed, and all her strength was rapidly draining away.
His father once said that if a wolf bites your throat, struggling is useless; the only option is to fight for your life.
He suddenly raised his right hand and plunged two fingers into the eyes of the person behind him.
The man groaned, tilted his head to avoid Shengzi's fingers, and tightened his grip on Shengzi's neck.
Shengzi's face turned purplish-red, his eyes bulged out, and they were bloodshot.
"Don't move!" A hoarse voice rang out from behind Katsuko.
Li Qiming and the others paused for a moment, but their guns remained firmly pointed at the man.
Zhang Cheng strode forward, step by step, steadily walking towards the winning piece.
"I told you, don't move!" The man's five fingers were like hooks, and his nails had already dug into the flesh of Shengzi's neck.
Zhang Cheng seemed not to hear, his pace quickening instead, his voice colder than the winter night wind:
"Shengzi, if you die, I'll give you a grand funeral. I'll take care of your parents!"
Before he finished speaking, Zhang Cheng suddenly ducked down, pointing his gun at a large tree twenty meters to his left.
"Bang!"
The treetops swayed, and another dark figure fell to the ground.
Li Qiming and the others felt a chill run down their spines; there were accomplices!
"You're asking for it!" roared the burly man who was choking Shengzi. "I'll make you pay with your lives!"
"Snap!"
He suddenly exerted force with his five fingers.
A crisp sound of bone cracking rang out.
"Victory!"
"Fuck your ancestors!"
"Bang bang bang!"
Zhang Cheng's pupils suddenly contracted, and his fingers frantically pulled the trigger.
"Get down!" He suddenly realized something, shouted sharply, and covered his head with his hands.
"boom!"
The deafening explosion ripped through the night sky.
The burly man who captured Shengzi was actually strapped with explosives!
Flames shot into the sky, and rubble and dirt flew everywhere.
"Shengzi!" Zhang Jianhao's eyes were bloodshot as he rushed towards the center of the explosion without regard for anything else.
Zhang Cheng also got up immediately and rushed over like a madman.
The homemade explosives weren't the most powerful, but the distance was too close.
The burly man's chest was blown to smithereens, a bloody mess.
Katsuko's back was also blown open, and her face was completely destroyed by the shockwave and shrapnel.
Li Qiming roared as he picked up Shengzi's mangled body, calling his name over and over again, tears and blood mingling together.
Zhang Cheng, panting heavily, walked to the mangled corpse of the burly man and slowly raised his right foot.
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
"Bang!"
He stomped repeatedly on the burly man's already unrecognizable head until it turned into a pile of minced meat.
