Zhang Jianhao's face was full of resentment, and his eyes gleamed with a fierce light like a wolf.
Zhong Te awkwardly propped himself up, snatched the gun from Zhang Mangui's hand, and pointed it at the crowd.
"Arrest them all! Arresting officers, assaulting police, stealing guns! They deserve to be executed!"
Zhang Cheng wiped the dust off his face and said calmly, "Director Zhong, have you had enough of your act?"
He pointed to the broken car window: "You smashed the car as soon as you got in, without showing any identification or an arrest warrant. This is settling a personal score. Do you even respect the law?"
"The law?" Zhong Te seemed to have heard the biggest joke in the world. "Did you talk to Chen Xiaomo about the law? When you cut his Achilles tendon and blinded him, why didn't you mention the law then?"
Consumed by rage, Zhong Te raised his pistol and smashed the butt of the gun hard against Zhang Cheng's head.
Zhang Cheng tilted his head slightly, and the butt of the gun still struck his forehead.
"Bang!"
Blood gushed out immediately.
"elder brother!"
"Damn it! I'll fight you to the death!" Zhang Jianhao and the others instantly turned red-eyed and pounced on Zhong Te like madmen.
Zhang Cheng suddenly spread his arms to block them, blood sliding down his face from his forehead.
"Director Zhong, is this enough? I have other things to do and don't have time to waste with you."
"What?!" Zhong Te laughed angrily, the gun almost poking Zhang Cheng's face. "I told you before, don't fall into my hands! Cuff him and take him back to the station!"
Zhang Cheng stopped resisting and let the two young police officers put handcuffs on him with trembling hands.
Zhong Te was riding a motorcycle, while his two henchmen were on bicycles. They had captured five people, and the question now was how to get them back.
Zhong Te pointed at Zhang Cheng: "You, go drive!"
Zhang Cheng's face was half-stained with blood as he silently got into the Santana.
Zhong Te tossed the motorcycle keys to a policeman, got into the passenger seat, and Zhang Jianhao and the others squeezed into the back seat.
"Zhang Cheng, guess what? You'll get life imprisonment or a gunshot wound?" Zhong Te stared provocatively at Zhang Cheng, who was in the driver's seat, his hands cuffed but still firmly gripping the steering wheel.
Zhang Jianhao, sitting in the back seat, lowered his voice and said, "Brother, it's just him... If we kill him, I'll take the blame."
"Kill me?" Zhong Te scoffed. "You're handcuffed, I have a gun, how are you going to kill me?"
Zhang Cheng stared straight ahead, his lips barely moving: "Chief Zhong, let's put aside our grudges. Give me two days. Two days later, I'll come to the Jiefang Street Police Station to find you, and you can do whatever you want with me."
"Beg me?"
"Yes, I beg you."
"Is this how you ask for help? I thought you were threatening me!"
Zhang Cheng glanced at Zhong Te: "I didn't threaten you."
"Then beg me while you're crying!"
Zhang Cheng sighed and stopped talking.
The Santana drove into the city.
"Where are you going?" Zhong Te sensed something was wrong; this wasn't the way to Jiefang Street.
"Police station".
"Damn it, you're going to the Nanyang Street Police Station?" Zhong Te's face changed drastically. "Stop the car! Stop the car for me!"
He reached for the steering wheel.
"Hold him down!" Zhang Cheng shouted in a low voice.
Zhang Jianhao, sitting in the back seat, suddenly raised his handcuffed hands and tried to strangle Zhong Te's neck through the gap in the seat. Zhang Mangui also lunged from the middle and bit Zhong Te's wrist as he grabbed the steering wheel.
"Zhang Cheng, I'll kill you!" Zhong Te's face was contorted with rage as he was about to pull the trigger.
Zhang Cheng jerked the steering wheel, sending Zhong Te crashing into the car door. Zhang Mangui seized the opportunity and pressed his entire body against him. Li Fuguo also leaned out from the back seat and grabbed Zhong Te's arm tightly.
Zhang Cheng floored the accelerator.
There weren't many cars in the city, but there were plenty of bicycles and pedestrians. The Santana drove recklessly, causing chaos along the way.
Zhao Daming was holding a document when he came out of the police station and was about to ride his motorcycle when a Santana came rushing towards him like a madman.
He could see clearly that Zhang Cheng was driving, and several figures were overlapping in the passenger seat.
"What's going on?"
"squeak--"
After a screeching sound of brakes, the Santana came to a smooth stop in front of the police station.
Zhang Cheng quickly pushed open the car door and jumped out, raising his handcuffed hands high and shouting, "Help! Police officers, help me!"
Zhao Daming was completely dumbfounded.
The commotion at the police station entrance attracted many people, and several police officers quickly surrounded them.
The passenger door was pulled open, and Zhong Te practically rolled out, his hair disheveled and his clothes torn.
"Grab them! Grab them all!" Zhong Te panted, pointing at Zhang Cheng and the others.
Many of the police officers present recognized Zhong Te. Seeing that Zhang Cheng and the others were handcuffed and Zhong Te was in this state, they immediately stepped forward and pinned the five men to the ground.
Zhao Daming rushed over: "It's a misunderstanding! It must be a misunderstanding!"
A section chief with two bars and one star on his shoulder stopped him: "Director Zhao, don't worry about this for now."
“Section Chief Niu, this is Zhang Cheng!” Zhao Daming held up the document in his hand. “This was just approved by the director. The Nanyang Street Police Station is to question Zhang Cheng on behalf of the Jiaxing police.”
Section Chief Niu took the document, glanced at it, his lips twitched, and he cursed inwardly, "What a piece of trash."
He waved his hand at Zhao Daming: "You can't take the person away now. Let's go ask them what happened."
In the interrogation room, Zhang Cheng recounted the entire incident in detail.
"Officer, Chief Zhong came up and smashed my car window with a gun without showing any identification. I was afraid he would take revenge, so I drove all the way to the police station to turn myself in, or rather, to seek protection."
Zhong Te's actions were indeed against the rules.
Section Chief Niu had someone contact Hu Bingyang of the Jiefang Street Police Station and ask him to take Zhong Te back. Zhong Te was still shouting that Zhang Cheng's arrest for assaulting a police officer and stealing his gun was enough to warrant several executions.
Zhang Cheng's explanation was simple: he didn't steal the gun; he picked it up and returned it to the officer. As for assaulting the police officer, the still-bleeding wound on his forehead was evidence of that.
