While Zhao Zhengyong was searching for a good seat with a good view for Zhong Te across from the bus station, Zhang Cheng had already arrived at the credit union and transferred the 120,000 yuan deposit for the shop into the China Merchants Bureau's account.
After finishing his business, he hummed an off-key tune and strolled to the supply and marketing cooperative to pick out some cigarettes, alcohol, candy, and tea. He couldn't go back to Zhou Qiyuan's house empty-handed the first time.
After buying his things, Zhang Cheng wandered over to the hospital. Since he didn't know Zhou Qiyuan's address, he decided to go directly to the hospital to find him and go together.
Meanwhile, Zhao Zhengyong had already found a guesthouse; the window of a room on the third floor offered a panoramic view of the entire bus station.
He checked into a hotel and then rode his bicycle back to the police station to ask Zhong Te to come and help him.
It was at this moment that Zhang Da Nao bought two bus tickets to Wenzhou at the bus station ticket window.
As soon as he had his tickets in his pocket, Yin Zhengguo went to the window, showed his police ID, and asked the ticket seller, "Comrade, how many tickets did that person buy? Where is he going?"
The ticket seller glanced at him and said, "Two tickets, from Wenzhou."
Upon hearing this, Yin Zhengguo's spirits lifted immediately.
"Captain, how is it?" Xie Kan and the others immediately surrounded him when they saw him coming over.
“Zhang Da Nao did indeed buy two tickets.” Yin Zhengguo smiled slightly. “It seems Zhang Cheng is planning to flee to Wenzhou.”
"We absolutely have to catch him this time!" Xie Kan rubbed his hands together, eager to get started.
"You guys, spread out around the bus station. If you spot Zhang Cheng, arrest him immediately. Then we'll take this bus directly and leave without delaying in Funing," Yin Zhengguo quickly gave the order.
"Yes!" the three responded, each dispersing in a different direction.
Yin Zhengguo walked leisurely to the waiting room, sat down in the empty seat next to Zhang Da Tou Nao, and glanced at the two tickets clutched tightly in the other's hand out of the corner of his eye.
"Young man, are you going to Wenzhou too?" Yin Zhengguo asked with a smile.
Zhang Da turned his head and saw the man next to him with a resolute face that exuded a convincing aura. He grinned and said, "From what you're saying, brother, you're one of them too?"
“That’s right.” Yin Zhengguo acted as if he were old friends. “I heard that Wenzhou has made a fortune in the past few years, so I’m thinking of going there to try my luck.”
Zhang Da Nao nodded in deep agreement: "Wenzhou is developing fast, but it's also chaotic. If you want to work in a factory, don't look for a local Wenzhou boss; they're very xenophobic..."
Since they had nothing better to do, Zhang Da Nao started chatting casually with Yin Zhengguo.
A hundred meters away from the bus station, Zhong Te rode his motorcycle and took Zhao Zhengyong to the guesthouse downstairs.
The two entered the building one after the other and headed straight for the room on the third floor.
As soon as Zhong Te entered the room, he rushed to the window, peered around, and nodded in satisfaction: "Hmm, this location is indeed excellent; we can see the bus station clearly."
"Director Zhong, who knows when Zhang Cheng will show up? How about we make up for it in advance?" Zhao Zhengyong said, taking an aluminum lunchbox out of his cloth bag and placing it on the bedside table by the window, with two bottles of liquor next to it.
Zhong Te hadn't eaten properly at noon. When he saw the braised chicken leg in his lunchbox, he raised his eyebrows and said, "You're quite generous today, you even bought some braised dishes!"
Zhao Zhengyong chuckled, handed over the chopsticks, and reached out to open the wine bottle.
"I won't drink any more alcohol," Zhong Te waved his hand. "After watching the excitement, I still have to go back to the station."
"Alright then." A barely perceptible glint flashed in Zhao Zhengyong's eyes. He didn't insist any further, picked up his chopsticks, and said, "Chief Zhong, please try this braised chicken leg. How does it taste..."
Zhong Te smiled, picked up a chicken leg, and began to devour it, his eyes still fixed on the view outside the window.
After a few bites, Zhong Te smacked his lips and frowned slightly: "Zhengyong, this braised food is too salty, it's too cloying. Go get me some hot water."
"Alright!" Zhao Zhengyong picked up the kettle in the corner and headed outside. The hot water at the guesthouse wasn't free; it cost three cents a kettle.
Before long, Zhao Zhengyong returned with a full kettle of boiling water. He first poured Zhong Te a glass of water, then picked up a bottle of liquor: "Director Zhong, how about... a little bit of baijiu? To cut through the greasiness and reduce the saltiness?"
Zhong Te picked up his water glass and took a sip. Eating this salty braised food on its own was indeed a bit dry. He hesitated for a moment, then nodded: "Okay, just two ounces, no more."
"Alright!" Zhao Zhengyong quickly poured Zhong Te a small half-cup of water.
The two ate, drank, and chatted casually, but Zhong Te's attention never left the direction of the bus station.
After waiting for about half an hour, Zhong Te became a little impatient: "Is your information accurate? Will Zhang Cheng actually come?"
"Chief Zhong, how can I guarantee that!" Zhao Zhengyong said with a bitter expression. "My little brother just overheard those cops in Jiaxing chatting and casually mentioned that Zhang Cheng might show up at the bus station."
Zhong Te raised an eyebrow, but didn't really blame Zhao Zhengyong. He squinted and continued to stare into the distance.
Suddenly, he grinned.
"Director Zhong, is it that kid Zhang Cheng who has shown up?" Zhao Zhengyong noticed the change in his expression and quickly went over to him.
Zhong Te shook his head and pointed in a certain direction outside the bus station: "See that guy in black clothes and black leather shoes, carrying a newspaper but looking around furtively, he's probably from Jiaxing."
Following the direction he pointed, a young man in a black cotton-padded jacket was indeed there, his newspaper almost dripping wet from being squeezed, but his eyes were scanning around like searchlights.
Zhao Zhengyong chuckled: "Chief Zhong, the Jiaxing Public Security Bureau's surveillance skills are really too rough."
"Everyone has their own expertise! This kid is definitely not cut out for criminal investigation!" Zhong Te's smile deepened. Since the Jiaxing Public Security Bureau was all here, it meant that the information about Zhao Zhengyong was pretty much accurate.
"Chief Zhong, come on, let's have a drink!" Zhao Zhengyong raised his enamel mug. "May that kid Zhang Cheng get caught red-handed by the Jiaxing police later!"
