Zhao Daming took off running and bumped into Shi Yangyang throwing a large piece of cured meat to a leaping, striped tiger.
The tiger leaped two or three meters into the air, caught the tiger in its mouth, and then devoured it with gusto upon landing.
Zhao Daming's legs went weak.
This thing is a tiger, not a cat or dog!
"Ruthless!" Zhao Daming cried out inwardly. This brother's wife was indeed no ordinary person; she could even keep a wild tiger as a pet.
Zhang Cheng strolled over to Zhao Daming's side, and seeing his still-shaken appearance, chuckled: "I was able to find the Japanese experimental base thanks to it. A few days ago, I smelled an overwhelming stench of corpses on it."
The smell of a corpse?
Zhang Cheng's smile vanished instantly, and he muttered to himself, "The stench of corpses... My sister is covered in the stench of corpses, but what about the others who went in?"
Although he had taken a bath and his smell had faded, how sensitive is the nose of a police dog?
Thinking of this, Zhang Cheng's breathing quickened slightly as he looked at Zhao Daming: "Brother, do you think it's possible that those people from Jin Village also entered the experimental base?"
"What do you mean?" Zhao Daming was taken aback.
"A police dog!" Zhang Cheng's eyes lit up. "Anyone who's been inside the experimental base will inevitably have the stench of corpses on them. Bring a police dog; one sniff will tell us whether anyone else from Jin Village has been inside!"
“That’s right!” Zhao Daming slapped his thigh. If Funing County doesn’t have it, how could the province not?
Once someone has been there, even a heavily armed police dog can smell it within a short period of time!
"I'll go back to the county bureau immediately!" Zhao Daming said excitedly, then added, "Go to Jin Village right away and tell Director Yu about this. Whatever you do, absolutely do not let anyone from Jin Village get near the experimental base, lest it cause any more trouble!"
“Okay!” Zhang Cheng replied.
Zhao Daming had only run a few steps out of the store when he turned back. The tiger was still engrossed in gnawing on its meat, and he dared not approach. He forced a smile that looked more like a grimace and called out to Shi Yangyang, "Sister-in-law, could you... let it move to another spot?"
"Brother, I'll hold it, you go over there. My little sister doesn't bite." Shi Yangyang bent down, pretending to hug the tiger.
"That's really fierce!" Zhao Daming muttered to himself, waving his hands repeatedly. "I'll wait until it finishes eating first. No rush, no rush."
Zhang Cheng suppressed a laugh. This tiger didn't easily harm people, but when it was extremely hungry, it would truly eat them.
Seeing that Zhao Daming was indeed terrified, Shi Yangyang went over and gently kicked the tiger's rump: "Eat faster, don't dawdle!"
The striped tiger tilted its head and glanced at it, then picked up the remaining cured meat and darted into the back mountain.
Only after the tiger left did Zhao Daming dare to take a step. He hurriedly greeted Shi Yangyang and fled as if he were escaping.
"Wife, I'm going to Jin Village." Zhang Cheng turned to Shi Yangyang.
"Be careful." Shi Yangyang's eyes were filled with worry.
"Don't worry." Zhang Cheng grinned, patting the slight bulge at his waist. Before leaving, Zhao Daming insisted on handing him his sidearm.
Meanwhile, in Jin Village.
Accompanied by Liu Zhongren, Director Yu had just come out of the courtyard of Jin Gangshan's house, which had been ransacked.
Sun Li quickly stepped forward, his face full of helplessness: "Director Yu, we've dug three feet into the ground, but still haven't found anything new."
Director Yu frowned: "After so many years of lying low, it's impossible to leave no trace. Search more carefully! Also, ask the neighbors if those two couples have acted strangely."
"Yes!" Sun Li replied. He was already doing these things, and since the leader emphasized it, he naturally had to act swiftly and decisively.
At the home of Jin Hanshan, the village chief of Jin Village.
Zhong Te sat on a bench, opposite Jin Hanshan, who looked worried and was puffing on his pipe.
“Uncle, you lived through those years and know how many heinous things those beasts did. Now that a traitor has appeared in the village, you must be feeling terrible.”
"Sigh!" Jin Hanshan sighed heavily, without saying a word.
Zhong Te continued, "The four members of the Jin Gangshan family died so suspiciously. There might be accomplices in the village. Uncle, you must want to find the rest, right?"
"Officer, just say what you have to say. I'll take my life if it means digging out those scumbags!" Jin Hanshan raised his eyes and stared at Zhong Te.
A glint flashed in Zhong Te's eyes, and he lowered his voice: "Uncle, since you're so straightforward, I won't beat around the bush. This is something I've discussed with Director Yu, and it's a last resort. You'll spread the word later that some important things were found at Jin Gangshan's house. You can't say exactly what it is; let everyone guess."
"Then, you can organize some brave villagers and tell them that you are going to the experimental base to collect the remains of those ancestors who died unjustly, so that they can be laid to rest."
Jin Hanshan frowned: "Will this... work?"
“We’ll only know by trying. Right now, we’re in the open, and they’re in the shadows. That traitor hiding there is like a frightened bird. If we make the slightest move, he’ll panic and easily give himself away,” Zhong Te explained. What he didn’t say was that Director Yu’s approval of the plan was a risky move, reluctantly agreed to after several days of no progress and with pressure from above. They judged that there might be something inside the experimental base that they wanted to hide even more than the traitor’s identity, such as crucial experimental data or leftover biochemical samples.
Jin Hanshan lifted his right foot, which was clad in cloth shoes, and gently tapped the sole of the shoe with his pipe. After a moment, he suddenly stood up and said, "Alright! I'll get on it right away!"
“Okay, I’ll go confirm the details with Director Yu again and arrange for people to provide support on the perimeter.” Zhong Te stood up and walked out quickly.
Before long, Jin Hanshan spread the news in the village as Zhong Te had instructed.
The villagers were buzzing with curiosity about what was found in Jin Gangshan's house, but no one dared to ask the police for details.
