"I was originally working on this project. Then something went wrong, so I transferred it to Boss Zhou. I have a pretty good relationship with Boss Zhou," Zhang Cheng said casually.
Hu Baima's heart skipped a beat. Such a big project, previously handled by Zhang Ergouzi? This young man has quite the influence. Recalling his eldest son Hu Tianan's words, his heart began to pound. One hundred it is one hundred, but offending this young man might jeopardize his eldest son's future at the police station…
"Fine! One hundred it is!" Hu Baima stamped his foot. "Er Gouzi, I'm only doing this for your sake!"
"Thank you very much, Uncle Ma." Zhang Cheng stood up, took out six hundred yuan from his pocket and handed it over. "Uncle Ma, please count it."
"No need to count, I trust you!" Hu Baima took the money, but his heart was bleeding. He had expected at least three thousand, but now he only got six hundred. The difference was too great.
"Uncle Ma, we'll be going now, so as not to disturb you while you're roasting sweet potatoes."
"I'll see you off!" Hu Baima said with a forced smile as he stood up.
Just as I arrived at the gate, a young man wearing a black woolen overcoat, with a cigarette dangling from his mouth, walked towards me with his hair slicked back and shiny.
"Fourth brother, why are you back?" Hu Baima was taken aback.
The person who came was his youngest son, Hu Chaoyang, who was about the same age as Zhang Cheng. He started out in the world when he was thirteen or fourteen, and with the help of his older brother Hu Tianan's name, he made a name for himself.
"Dad, who are they? What are they doing here?" Hu Chaoyang glanced at Zhang Cheng and the other two, his gaze lingering on Zhang Cheng for a moment with a hint of disdain.
Hu Baima quickly explained, "This is your Uncle Shangquan's brother-in-law, Li Hongzhuang, and this is Zhang Ergouzi, whom your elder brother often mentions."
Zhang Er Gouzi?
Hu Chaoyang sized Zhang Cheng up and down, a slight smirk playing on his lips. He thought to himself, "He doesn't look like much." His older brother had been mentioning that name constantly lately; he was sick of hearing it.
"Dad, what are they doing here?"
Hu Baima coughed lightly: "It's about... the utility poles."
"You've reached an agreement? How much is it per piece?" Hu Chaoyang's eyes lit up.
"One...one hundred."
"What the hell?" Hu Chaoyang's eyes widened, his voice rising eight octaves as he glared at Hu Baima with displeasure. "Dad! Didn't we agree that we wouldn't be allowed to rest until we had at least five hundred? How come you..."
"Alright! We'll talk about it later!" Hu Baima interrupted him, his face flushed. He couldn't very well say in front of Zhang Cheng that he had made concessions for his elder brother's future.
Hu Chaoyang, however, was relentless. He stepped forward, blocking Zhang Cheng's path, and raised his chin slightly: "You think you can dig a hole in our land for a hundred yuan? Are you trying to fob me off like a beggar?"
