Chapter 2 Hunting Wild Boars

The snow continued to fall relentlessly.

The mountains and forests were completely covered, plunging into a deathly silence.

The only sound was the mournful wail of the wind and snow whistling through the bare branches, a sound that sent chills down one's spine.

Zhang Cheng lay on the cold tree branch, his body almost frozen and unconscious.

Snowflakes fell all over him, covering his head and body in a white blanket.

He remained motionless, as if he had become one with the withered tree.

Only the very faint rise and fall of his chest proved that he was still breathing.

He is waiting.

With the last ounce of strength and clarity he had left, he fought against the freezing cold and the ever-present drowsiness.

Sudden!

Below, in the dark snow, a blurry shadow seemed to move slightly.

A very faint shadow was moving slowly.

Zhang Cheng's eyes widened suddenly, and he even subconsciously held his breath.

It's here!

The shadow gradually became clearer.

It was a wild boar.

It looked a bit weak, and its fur was dull and unkempt.

More importantly, one of its hind legs appeared to be injured, causing it to walk with a noticeable limp and move slowly and clumsily.

An injured wild boar.

In such severe weather, being alone almost means death.

Judging from its appearance, it was clearly starving.

The wild boar sniffed intensely in the cold air.

The cold wind precisely carried that tempting smell of blood directly to its nostrils.

It was the blood from Zhang Cheng's fingertip that had dripped onto the snow earlier.

The wild boar stopped and warily scanned its surroundings with a hint of greed.

The mountains were eerily quiet; apart from the sound of wind and snow, there was no other noise.

Its eerie green eyes gleamed in the darkness, filled with a hunger for food and a fear of the unknown.

The stench of blood in the trap area was overwhelming.

For it, this could be both a life-saving food and a deadly trap.

But in the end, the unbearable hunger overcame the caution.

It began to move step by step, extremely carefully, toward the trap pit.

It's getting closer.

Zhang Cheng, perched in the tree, felt his heart pounding in his throat.

All the muscles in his body were taut to the extreme.

His eyes were fixed on the wild boar below, precisely estimating the distance, his brain racing, predicting its next move.

His plan was simple: first trap him, then seize the opportunity to deliver a fatal blow.

Just as the wild boar lowered its head, sticking out its tongue to lick the bloodstains on the snow, and was only inches away from the cleverly disguised rope noose—

Zhang Cheng made his move!

He silently adjusted his posture, and then, like a cheetah hunting its prey, leaped down from the tree!

During the fall, he used the sharpened wooden stick he was holding tightly to stab the wild boar hard in the side and rear, using the momentum of his body!

"Hmph!"

The wild boar reacted incredibly quickly, sensing the approaching danger and leaping to the side!

The sharp wooden stick barely grazed the wild boar's bristles, pulling off a few clumps of grayish hair.

Although it narrowly escaped the fatal blow, in its panic, one of its front paws stepped right into the rope snare that Zhang Cheng had carefully set up!

Now!

Zhang Cheng had just landed on his feet and hadn't even fully regained his balance when he suddenly pulled hard on the rope in his right hand!

The rope tightened instantly, binding the wild boar's right foreleg like an iron hoop!

"Hmph—!"

The wild boar let out a shrill, painful cry, both shocked and enraged, and frantically tried to break free of its restraints.

How could Zhang Cheng give it that chance!

With lightning speed, he grabbed a shorter, sharp wooden stick from beside him and hurled it at the boar's face without hesitation!

This throw was not intended to cause any real damage, but rather to distract it!

The wild boar instinctively tilted its head sharply.

In that split second, Zhang Cheng unleashed his power again with his right hand, pulling the rope back sharply!

The wild boar, losing its balance, let out a miserable cry and landed heavily on its backside in the snow.

But the beast's ferocity was also fully unleashed.

The wild boar struggled to its feet, its pair of green eyes staring intently at Zhang Cheng, filled with bloodthirsty madness and murderous intent.

Dragging its tethered front legs, it opened its foul-smelling mouth and lunged at Zhang Cheng recklessly!

A strong, pungent, fishy stench hit me!

Zhang Cheng was prepared, and with a nimble roll, he narrowly avoided the wild boar's bite.

As he rolled, his other hand precisely grabbed the end of another rope on the ground!

This was his second layer of insurance—another trap!

Pull hard!

The rope loop landed precisely on the wild boar's injured, lame hind leg!

With both its front and hind legs bound by ropes, and its hind leg already injured, the wild boar's movement was immediately severely restricted.

It barked furiously, trying to charge forward, but was held back tightly by the ropes at both ends, and could only sway futilely in place.

A clear look of fear began to appear in the wild boar's eyes.

It began to try to back away.

Zhang Cheng slowly stood up and wiped the snowflakes that had splashed on his face.

He didn't approach immediately, but instead gripped the machete at his waist, assuming a fierce stance ready to charge forward.

"brute!"

He let out a low growl and made a lunge!

The wild boar, already terrified, was further entangled by the ropes in front and behind it. Seeing Zhang Cheng's fierce and menacing appearance, its last bit of courage vanished.
