"Yan Guozhou!"
Secretary Zhou's voice was like a volcano about to erupt.
"exist!"
Yan Guozhou straightened his back abruptly, his voice booming like a bell.
"Go back to your station!"
"I don't care what methods you use, get Zhang Cheng to talk!"
"yes!"
Yan Guozhou's eyes narrowed; he knew that Secretary Zhou's patience had run out.
He gave Zhang Jingtao a wink, said nothing more, and strode away.
"You go out too," Secretary Zhou waved to Secretary Huang.
The office door was gently closed.
It was as if Secretary Zhou had become the only person left in the entire world.
He took out a cigarette, but then irritably threw it on the table, picked up the phone, and dialed a number he knew by heart.
The call was answered almost instantly.
“Junior, what you did was not ethical.” Secretary Zhou’s voice was icy cold.
On the other end of the phone came Secretary Liu's calm yet subtly sharp voice.
"Senior, it's just following the rules."
“Zhang Cheng has a case against him in Funing. Both morally and logically, he should be brought back to Funing for trial first.”
“I assure you, as long as Jiaxing can produce irrefutable evidence, I will personally escort him back and deliver him to you.”
Secretary Zhou laughed angrily: "Easy for you to say! If you take him away now, you'll be slapping me, Zhou, in the face!"
"Senior, calm down."
"My people will arrive in Jiaxing in five hours."
"These five hours are your time. As long as you can prove that Zhang Cheng is related to the highway murder case, I will immediately make them turn back."
"OK!"
Secretary Zhou gritted his teeth, and the single word seemed to explode from his chest.
He slammed the phone back onto the stand.
...
Police station, interrogation room.
Zhang Cheng was handcuffed to a chair, his expression as calm as if he were in his own study.
The blinding spotlight shone directly on his face, but he didn't even blink.
The interrogators tried every trick in the book, from noise to intimidation, but Zhang Cheng's psychological defenses remained as solid as a mountain.
Suddenly, the interrogation room door was kicked open.
Yan Guozhou walked in, exuding a chill.
"Director Yan!" The two interrogators immediately stood up.
What did he say?
"……No."
"Get out, I'll take care of it."
"yes!"
Yan Guozhou walked to the interrogation table, but did not sit down. Instead, he leaned half of his body against the edge of the table and placed his hands on the table with his hands clasped together.
His gaze was fixed on Zhang Cheng like that of a hawk.
"Zhang Cheng, I underestimated you."
"In order to protect you, Funing County went so far as to tailor a case specifically for you and extradite you back."
A subtle hint of amusement flashed in Zhang Cheng's eyes.
Is this a reminder that reinforcements are coming and that I should hold on?
Yan Guozhou curled his lips into a cold smile and turned to walk towards the cabinet in the corner.
He opened the drawer.
He took out a hammer and a thick, yellowed old book.
Carrying the two items, he walked back to Zhang Cheng step by step and gently placed the tattered thick book on his chest.
Zhang Cheng's expression remained unchanged; he simply watched him quietly.
Yan Guozhou didn't say much.
He raised the hammer high in his hand.
Then, smash it down hard!
"Bang!"
A deafeningly loud bang.
Zhang Cheng's body jolted violently, his face flushed red instantly, but he gritted his teeth and didn't make a sound.
"Bang!"
The second time.
My chest felt like it was exploding, my internal organs were churning, and a burning pain shot through my trachea straight to my head.
"Bang! Bang! Bang!"
Three more merciless blows.
Zhang Cheng's eyes bulged, and veins stood out on his forehead, yet he still stared intently at Yan Guozhou, even trying to force a smile.
Yan Guozhou threw down the book, squatted down, and came to Zhang Cheng's eye level.
"The people from Funing will arrive in five hours."
His voice was soft, yet it carried a chilling undertone.
"Tell me, can you handle it?"
"This is just the appetizer."
"Cough...cough cough..."
Zhang Cheng coughed violently, gasping for breath. He slowly raised his chin, met Yan Guozhou's gaze, and smiled.
"Director Yan, how about... we give it a try?"
"Let's see if I can hold out until they arrive."
"You've got guts!"
Yan Guozhou also smiled. He slowly stood up and threw the hammer back onto the table.
Then, he walked behind Zhang Cheng and used a key to unlock his handcuffs.
Zhang Cheng twisted his numb wrist, a hint of inquiry in his eyes: "Director Yan, what new tricks are you planning this time?"
"It's pointless to torture someone like you."
Yan Guozhou looked him up and down with a half-smile.
"A boy from the mountains stirred up trouble in two places in just six months."
"Your willpower is harder than steel."
"So, let's switch to a different game."
"A game you're sure to love."
"What game?" Zhang Cheng asked.
"this!"
Before he could finish speaking, Yan Guozhou suddenly turned around and drew his sidearm from his waist with lightning speed!
The dark muzzle of the gun was shoved directly into Zhang Cheng's right hand, which he hadn't had time to retract!
Zhang Cheng's pupils contracted sharply, and almost instinctively he tried to shake them off, rolling backward.
"Zhang Cheng! You dare to steal my gun!"
Yan Guozhou's roar instantly echoed throughout the entire corridor!
Zhang Cheng met Yan Guozhou's eyes, which were full of mockery and coldness, and instantly understood everything.
There is no surveillance.
In the interrogation room.
The police chief said you stole a gun, so you did steal a gun.
