Hearing Zhang Cheng's ambiguous question on the other end of the phone, Zhang Tian's heart suddenly clenched.
That light, airy tone was like a poisoned knife pressed against his throat.
"Look at what you're saying! Since you've given your word, I'll crawl over there even if I have to!"
Zhang Tian's face instantly contorted into a smile that was more like a grimace, and his voice became distorted with obsequiousness.
"Wait a moment, I'll be right there!"
"Okay, I'll wait for you."
The call ended.
Zhang Tian put down the microphone in a daze, raised his hand and slapped himself hard across the face, his cheek burning with pain.
He picked up the phone again, his fingers trembling, and dialed a number he knew by heart.
"Director Gao!"
As soon as the call connected, Zhang Tian impatiently lowered his voice and asked, "Zhang Cheng... what's going on with him? Wasn't it said he was defeated in Jiaxing?!"
Gao Datong on the other end of the phone was silent for a moment, his voice filled with barely suppressed frustration.
"Did he contact you?"
"Just finished the fight! He wants me to meet him at the Huanglong Cave Hotel!" Zhang Tian was almost in tears. "Director Gao, with the current situation in Jiaxing, who dares to associate with him! I heard that something big happened to the Jiaxing gang too, Yan Bin is dead, and Huang Pinyu's son is also..."
"Don't ask questions you shouldn't ask!"
Gao Datong abruptly interrupted him, his voice carrying a hint of warning and fear.
"When Zhang Cheng calls you over, go over. Remember, don't try anything funny."
"Also, Huang Pinyu has gone mad. His son was murdered, and he's now offering a bounty of 160,000 for the killer's life, as well as the life of the mastermind behind it!"
"Beep...beep...beep..."
Hearing the busy tone from the receiver, Zhang Tian felt his hands and feet turn ice cold.
A reward of 160,000!
This is about to unleash a bloodbath!
He stood up dejectedly, turned off the bubbling hot pot on the table, and without even bothering to tidy up, grabbed his coat and rushed out of the office as if attending a funeral.
The Volkswagen Santana started up in the darkness, its engine groaning much like his mood at that moment.
...
Meanwhile, in the suburbs of Jiaxing, at Li Bingyang's private residence.
The air was so oppressive it felt like you could wring water out of it.
Feng Sanyao's eyes were bloodshot as he stubbed out his cigarette in the ashtray, his hoarse voice sounding like sandpaper rubbing against the ground.
"Tell me, who exactly did the dirty work on Yan Bin and Huang Pinyu's son?"
His gaze, sharp as a hawk's, swept over everyone present.
Li Bingyang frowned, his eyes cold as he met Feng Sanyao's gaze: "Feng Sanyao, what do you mean? You suspect we did it?"
"Who else could it be but us?!"
Feng Sanyao suddenly stood up, like an enraged wild beast.
"No matter how bad Yan Bin is, he's been with us for over a decade! How old is Huang Pinyu's son? Who the hell is so shameless as to lay a hand on a child like that!"
"Sit down, all of you!"
Li Bingyang roared, unleashing his full aura, and forcefully suppressed Feng Sanyao's arrogance.
"I, Li Bingyang, am making this clear! I didn't kill him!"
He looked around at everyone and said, word by word, "We still haven't found out who sent that letter from the Discipline Inspection Commission! At a time like this, to take action against Yan Bin and Huang Pinyu is like asking if they're not already dead fast enough! I, Li Bingyang, am not that stupid!"
Several people present echoed this sentiment, swearing oaths to distance themselves from the situation.
Feng Sanyao slumped down, ran his hands through his thinning hair, and roared in anguish, "Who the hell did this?! Now the whole of Jiaxing thinks it was us! That madman Huang Pinyu must think so too!"
"Who the murderer is is no longer important."
Li Bingyang's voice was as cold as a Siberian icy current.
"The important thing is that Huang Pinyu has already identified us as the murderers. I just received news that his 160,000 yuan bounty has already alarmed several groups of desperate criminals in the provincial capital."
"He's trying to kill us!"
A fat man named Qian Hengchang's eyes flashed with a fierce light.
"Damn it! Since he wants to play, let's strike first and just..."
He made a throat-slitting gesture.
Before he finished speaking, everyone's eyes were on him.
Li Bingyang narrowed his eyes: "You mean, if we're going to go all the way, we should take down Huang Pinyu too?"
I agree!
"I agree!"
"Old Qian, you came up with the idea, so... you just did the job?"
"I'll deal with your mother!" Qian Hengchang retorted immediately. "Huang Pinyu is a somewhat well-known figure. Yan Bin just died, and now he's in trouble too. That's like pointing fingers at the police and calling them useless! Anyone who gets involved in this fire will be burned to ashes!"
A deathly silence fell over the crowd once more, and suspicious glances darted between them like venomous snakes.
Their ship has started to leak.
While they were arguing, in a dimly lit rented room in the city...
The strong smell of blood and sweat mingled together.
The masked, burly man who shot Yan Bin and stabbed Huang Pinyu's son to death was now kneeling on the ground, bound by chains like a dead dog, covered in blood.
Standing before him was a thin young man.
The young man, wearing a dirty cotton-padded jacket, sniffed, but his gaze was sharp as a knife.
Behind him stood two equally fierce companions.
"Boss Huang, we've brought the man. Where's the money?"
The young man looked at Huang Pinyu, whose eyes were bloodshot and whose body was radiating boundless hatred.
Huang Pinyu didn't say anything, staring intently at the burly man on the ground, and walked over step by step.
"How can you prove it was him?" His voice was so hoarse it was almost inhuman.
