Funing County People's Hospital.
In the VIP ward on the third floor, the air was filled with disinfectant and a faint smell of blood.
Zhang Chengping lay on the bed, staring calmly at the ceiling, as if the life-or-death battle he had experienced in Jiaxing was just an insignificant dream.
But the group of people around the hospital bed, each with their own distinct expression, were silently proclaiming the earth-shattering storm he had brought back.
Zhao Daming sat on the edge of the bed, looking at Zhang Cheng's overly young face, his heart filled with mixed emotions.
Three days.
In just three days, the sky over Jiaxing was pierced by this young man.
Now, back in the familiar territory of Funing County, the sense of urgency that had been like dancing on a knife's edge finally receded like the tide.
"Now that we're back, focus on recovering." Zhao Daming's voice carried a hint of barely perceptible relief. "Even if the sky falls, we'll hold it up."
"Hmm," Zhang Cheng replied indifferently, without even lifting his eyelids.
Beside him, Tong Kaiwen, wearing black-rimmed glasses, rubbed his reddened eyes. These past few days, helping Li Yuanyuan draft those cryptic business contracts had been more tiring than handling ten cases himself.
"Xiao Zhang, I'm going back now," he said wearily. "Don't worry, I, Zhang Cheng, am not the kind of person to go back on my word!" Zhang Cheng finally turned around, his eyes filled with sincere gratitude.
"Brother Tong, I'll remember this favor."
Tong Kaiwen nodded with satisfaction and turned to leave.
Zhao Daming also stood up and said to Liu Zhongren beside him, "Zhongren, you stay here and look after things for now. I need to go back to the office; there are some procedures that need to be completed immediately."
He was referring to arranging "medical parole" for Zhang Cheng, using the cardboard factory case as a hook to keep Zhang Cheng firmly in Funing, so that no matter how big the storm was in Jiaxing, they wouldn't be able to take him away.
"Don't worry, Director." Liu Zhongren smiled憨厚ly.
Before Zhao Daming could even step out of the ward, the door was suddenly pushed open, and Zhang Datou and his group of people surged in like a tide, instantly filling the entire room.
"Brother! Are you alright?!"
"Er Gouzi, which bastard did this?!"
"Brother Dog, just say the word, and we'll go and cripple him right now!"
The noise made the air in the ward feel hot and stuffy.
Zhao Daming shook his head helplessly and squeezed out to the side.
"What are you yelling about?" Zhang Cheng's voice wasn't loud, but it was like a bucket of ice water, instantly extinguishing everyone's anger.
He glanced around, his gaze calm. "This is a hospital. If you want to cause trouble, go outside."
Everyone fell silent instantly.
"The person who injured me is already on his way to meet the King of Hell." Zhang Cheng's tone was completely calm, as if he were talking about a trivial matter.
He turned his gaze to Zhang Da's head: "How are things going with the clothing store and the video arcade?"
Zhang Da felt a little uneasy under his gaze and awkwardly scratched the back of his head: "Er Gouzi, Li Zhiqing isn't here, the shop is... it's all being managed by those sales clerks..."
Zhang Cheng's eyes suddenly turned cold.
"Big-Headed Bro, I'll ask you one more time, who's the boss?"
"I……"
"Do you even know how much your clothing store makes in a day? You're handing over your money to a few newly hired sales clerks?" Zhang Cheng's voice was deliberate and forceful. "Business is business, and personal relationships are personal relationships. You must keep your money in your own hands! Now, go back immediately and investigate every single account! If a single penny is missing, I'll hold you accountable!"
Zhang Da Nao Tou shuddered at the cold gaze, no longer daring to argue. His face turned a deep purplish-red, and he forced himself to say, "Fine! I...I'll go right now!"
Watching Zhang Da Nao leave in a disheveled state, Zhang Jianhao quickly stepped forward, half-squatting beside the bed, and reported with an admiring look on his face: "Brother, the video arcade is doing booming business, it's almost full during the day!"
“The more people there are, the more careful we need to be.” Zhang Cheng’s tone softened. “Safety is the top priority.”
Just then, a gentle voice sounded at the door.
"Brother Zhang, am I not too late?"
Zhou Qiyuan walked in carrying fruit and canned goods, his face full of concern.
Behind him followed a middle-aged man in a suit and tie, with a fawning smile on his face—it was Zhou Yuanhang.
As soon as Zhou Yuanhang entered the room, he saw Zhang Cheng lying on the hospital bed with a pale face, and his legs went weak.
In the upper echelons of Funing County, who doesn't know the weight of Zhang Cheng's name now? He single-handedly turned the Jiaxing Municipal Party Committee upside down. Taking away his "electricity to the countryside" project was practically defying the King of Hell!
He came here today to apologize and beg for forgiveness.
"Brother Zhou." Zhang Cheng smiled at Zhou Qiyuan, but his gaze, sharp as a scalpel, fell on Zhou Yuanhang.
"Mr. Zhang!" Zhou Yuanhang was startled and quickly handed over the most valuable gift in his hand. "I heard you were injured, so I... I came here specifically to see you."
"Sword Master, pour water for Boss Zhou," Zhang Cheng instructed.
"No, no, no, no need to trouble yourself!" Zhou Yuanhang waved his hands repeatedly, sweat already beading on his forehead.
Zhang Cheng, seemingly oblivious to his nervousness, casually asked, "Boss Zhou, I heard that the electricity installation project isn't going too smoothly?"
Zhou Yuanhang's heart sank!
How could he know?
"No...nothing like that! It'll be over soon, almost done!" he stammered, his eyes darting around.
"Is that so?" Zhang Cheng chuckled, a laugh that sounded more chilling than the winter wind to Zhou Yuanhang.
"That's good." Zhang Cheng nodded, no longer looking at him, and turned to Zhang Jianhao, saying, "Later, go and buy two of the best color televisions, one for the village committee and one for our house."
