Chapter 63 The Village Chief's Domineering Protection of His Own

A gust of cold wind blew, and Li Yuanyuan subconsciously shrank her neck, looking at the group of people who came out of the next room.

"Zhang Cheng!"

Everyone looked at her with strange expressions, but Li Yuanyuan stood with her hands behind her back, her face full of smiles, and shouted loudly.

The old village chief's brow twitched. He glanced at Li Yuanyuan, who was beaming like a flower, then turned to Zhang Cheng, who looked completely bewildered, and said:

"Er Gouzi, this girl is cunning. If you can't handle her, I'll go ask her for you."

What the heck? I can't handle it? Zhang Cheng wondered to himself.

Li Yuanyuan was waiting when the old village chief walked out from the crowd, and the smile on her face immediately froze.

"Comrade Li, do you need to see Er Gouzi?" The old village chief asked warily, looking Li Yuanyuan up and down.

"Village chief, I have some private business with Zhang Cheng."

"You're not even familiar with Er Gouzi, so what private business could you possibly have?"

I'm warning you, don't even think about breaking up Er Gouzi's family, or I'll beat you to death with a carrying pole!

The old village chief glared fiercely at Li Yuanyuan without any politeness.

The old village chief knew all about Li Yuanyuan and Shi Yangyang's messy affair and had to guard against this girl harming Er Gouzi.

Feeling watched like a thief by the old village chief, Li Yuanyuan didn't dare to go looking for Zhang Cheng anymore. Her face burning with embarrassment, she turned around and went back into the house.

Zhang Cheng frowned, looking at the old village chief striding towards him as if he had won a battle, and asked:

"Uncle, was she also a sent-down youth? What does she want with me?"

"It's nothing, I just wanted to ask how Shi Yangyang is doing lately!" The old village chief lied without batting an eye.

"Oh, I see!" Zhang Cheng laughed. "Yangyang is my wife, of course I'll cherish her."

Without thinking much about it, he was pulled away from the village committee by the old village chief.

"Yuanyuan, what just happened?"

"Is the village chief crazy? Why won't he let you talk to Zhang Cheng?"

"So what do we do now?"

"If we eat our food sparingly, we can last until spring. But I really don't want to go up the mountain to work anymore."

"Sigh, everyone else has been exonerated and gone back to the city to enjoy their retirement, leaving only us few, oh right, Yangyang too..."

Li Yuanyuan's face was grim, her teeth biting her lip, and she cursed the old village chief in her heart, wishing he would never have a son... Unfortunately, the old village chief had two daughters.

"Stop talking, it's so annoying!"

Li Yuanyuan yelled in frustration and collapsed onto the wooden bed.

The others in the room looked at each other in bewilderment.

Zhao Qingwan breathed a sigh of relief; she was genuinely worried that Zhang Cheng would be seduced by Li Yuanyuan.

Back then, Shi Yangyang and Li Yuanyuan were the two most eye-catching people in the village, and they were about the same size.

But what about now?

Li Yuanyuan seems to be favored by God; she doesn't get tanned even after being exposed to wind and sun. While others might have some frostbite on their faces, her skin remains so good, smooth and delicate.

If you put Shi Yangyang and Li Yuanyuan together now... there's really no comparison.

...

With everything arranged, Zhang Cheng returned to the mud house.

Looking at Shi Yangyang sitting on the edge of the bed, his smile deepened.

Shi Yangyang felt uncomfortable under his gaze, so she lowered her head and dared not meet his eyes.

Zhang Cheng took out a turtle and cured meat from the earthenware jar and said, "I couldn't be with you yesterday for the Little New Year, so let's make up for it today."

The house has all the necessary oil, salt, soy sauce, and vinegar.

He scooped up two spoonfuls of white rice and rinsed it clean with water from the jar.

Before his rebirth, he worked as a kitchen helper in the recruit training camp, so simple stir-frying was no challenge for him.

I don't care about perfect color, aroma, and taste; as long as the flavor isn't too outrageous, it's edible.

The aroma of rice!

The rich aroma of stewed turtle with cured pork!

It floated out of the mud house.

Over at the main house, Er Ya's belly was showing even more, and now she needed help to stand up even after sitting down.

Smelling the domineering aroma of meat in the air, Er Ya couldn't help but swallow her saliva. She turned her head to look at Zhang An, who was lying on the bed with his back to her, and thought to herself, "This brother-in-law is really capable."

My mother and Lao Zhang aren't home. They said they went to wander around the village to see if they could catch a few hairy rats to nourish her body.

But Er Ya knew very well that with her in-laws' limited abilities, they wouldn't even be able to find a rat dropping, let alone a hairy mouse.

He probably deliberately hid away, not wanting to see his brother-in-law in the limelight.

Every time my in-laws go out, the neighbors deliberately exaggerate their sincerity, which has caused my in-laws to have a strained relationship with the neighbors.

After thinking for a moment, Er Ya picked up the cane that Old Zhang had made for her and slowly walked out.

As soon as I opened the door, I heard Zhang An's voice from behind.

"When you come back later, bring me some food too."

Er Ya's face turned pale. How could you be so self-righteous? I went to freeload for the baby in my belly. You're a grown man with hands and feet...

Too lazy to complain, she closed the door and slowly made her way to the mud house in the backyard.

"Sister-in-law!"

Er Ya tiptoed open the door of the mud house, a slightly embarrassed smile on her face. She stood at the door and called out "Sister-in-law," but her eyes were fixed on the bubbling cured meat in the pot.

"Sister-in-law, come in!" Zhang Cheng greeted her with a smile.

"Second Uncle, I...I came to talk to my sister-in-law!" Er Ya's ears turned red, as if she was trying to hide something.

Zhang Cheng smiled but didn't expose her.

Er Ya slowly shuffled to the edge of the bed, sat down next to Shi Yangyang, gently took her hand, and whispered, "Sister-in-law, you've really hit the jackpot by marrying your second uncle."

A dozen minutes later.

Three steaming hot meat dishes were placed on the table.

Er Ya swallowed hard, then coughed lightly, "Second Uncle, are you about to eat? Well, I'll head back now!"

“Sit down and eat with us. Yangyang and I can’t eat this much,” Zhang Cheng said.

"Oh, I'm so sorry!"

Despite saying that, Er Ya obediently sat down on the small stool.
