Chapter 113 Ambush from Ten Sides!

Zhao Daming, under the influence of alcohol, overthought things and felt he had lost face in front of Zhang Cheng, which is why he insisted on going to Jiaxing with him.

Zhang Cheng chuckled and gently pressed Zhao Daming back into his chair. He picked up a white porcelain cup from the table, poured him a cup of boiling water, and pushed it towards him.

"Brother, there's no need to make a big deal out of this."

I'm going to Jiaxing tomorrow to have a good talk with them.

As long as the conditions aren't unreasonable, I'm willing to pay the price to avoid further trouble.

"What if they don't want to settle this amicably?"

Zhao Daming still looked worried.

"That's easy, I don't want those clothes."

Consider it as feeding the dogs.

Zhang Cheng spoke calmly.

"Besides, I've already spoken to Director Zhao at the supply and marketing cooperative; he might be able to get in touch with me."

The two batches of goods totaled less than two thousand yuan, which Zhang Cheng could afford to lose.

Zhao Daming still had a furrowed brow.

He knew all too well how turbulent the outside world was these days, and it was hard to say whether Zhang Cheng could escape unscathed after going to Jiaxing all by himself.

He suddenly looked up and stared at Zhang Cheng:

"I'll give you the contact information of my comrade-in-arms who risked his life for me."

If you're truly at your wit's end, go find him.

"OK!"

Zhang Cheng smiled and agreed.

"Come with me!"

Zhao Daming suddenly stood up and strode towards the evidence room on the third floor.

The police officer on duty opened the iron door to the evidence room, and Zhao Daming led Zhang Cheng inside.

While Zhang Cheng was still wondering, Zhao Daming had already taken a dark Type 54 pistol from the shelf full of miscellaneous items and shoved it directly into Zhang Cheng's hand.

Zhang Cheng's hand tightened, his eyes sharpened, and he lowered his voice:

"Brother, what's wrong with you...?"

Zhao Daming gripped the gun, then patted Zhang Cheng's hand heavily, lowering his voice even further:

"The thugs were just caught and their information was handed over a couple of days ago. It was registered but not reported yet. Only heaven and earth know."

"This is for your self-defense. Return it to me exactly as it was when you return from Jiaxing."

Stop being so wishy-washy!

Zhao Daming glared at him.

"Take it!"

Zhang Cheng frowned, his fingertips tracing the cold barrel of the gun. After a moment, he said nothing more and tucked the gun into his waistband.

Zhao Daming then pulled out ten more gleaming yellow bullets and stuffed them into Zhang Cheng's pocket:

“I know you’re a reliable guy, but those outlaws outside won’t listen to reason.”

Don't use your weapons unless absolutely necessary.

Remember, your own life is the most important thing.

He was the first to walk out of the evidence room, followed closely by Zhang Cheng.

Back in his office, Zhao Daming pulled out a stack of forms from his drawer and began writing furiously.

“Brother, I’ve prepared a temporary identity for you: a specially hired field officer for the Funing County Police Station.”

Zhao Daming raised his face, flashed Zhang Cheng a set of white teeth, and waved the documents in his hand.

"That way, even if you actually use weapons and cause trouble, I'll have a reason to protect you."

"elder brother……"

Zhang Cheng felt a surge of warmth in his heart.

"We're brothers, there's no need for such formalities!"

Zhao Daming waved his hand.

"Come on, let's go home, have a couple more drinks with your brother, and then get a good night's sleep!"

"Brother, I won't go to your place tonight and cause you any trouble."

I need to make arrangements in Jiaxing tonight.

"Alright!"

Zhang Cheng took Zhao Daming home on his motorcycle, then borrowed his car and headed straight for South Street.

In the time it takes to drink a cup of tea, Zhang Cheng knocked on the door of the small house that Li Qiming and his friends were renting.

These guys were still excited from their first day in the city, so they all squeezed into one room and chatted away.

"Brother Dog, what brings you here!"

Zhang Jianhao opened the door and was taken aback when he saw Zhang Cheng.

Zhang Cheng stepped into the room and glanced at the people sitting or lying on the kang (a heated brick bed) and the floor:

Didn't you go out for a walk tonight?

"Brother, it's too cold outside, and it's dark and there's nothing to see. Why don't we stay inside and chat?"

Li Qiming chuckled sheepishly.

Zhang Zhongming gave the broken stool he was sitting on to Zhang Cheng, and squatted down to the side himself:

"Brother, Jianhao said that after he gets his wages, he'll treat us to a gunfight movie at the video arcade!"

Zhang Cheng twitched the corner of his mouth:

"Alright, let's get down to business."

Upon hearing this, everyone's expression turned solemn.

"I'm going to Jiaxing tomorrow. Who wants to come with me?"

"Brother, I'll go with you!"

"I'm going too!"

A dozen or so people rushed forward, but Zhang Cheng waved his hand dismissively:

"Big Head stayed behind to help Li Yuanyuan."

"Jianhao, Qiming, Zhongming, and Shengzi, the four of you, come with me to Jiaxing!"

The four people whose names were called immediately beamed with joy, while the rest looked dejected.

"Remember, once you arrive in Jiaxing, obey my orders and do not act on your own."

Zhang Cheng solemnly gave his instructions.

"Brother, don't worry, we'll listen to you!"

"Yes, yes, yes!"

"Alright then, everyone should get some rest early tonight."

After leaving the rented room, Zhang Cheng rode his motorcycle around the county town twice, found a public bathhouse for a hot bath, and then booked a room at a guesthouse.

The next morning at six o'clock, just as dawn was breaking, Zhang Cheng opened his eyes.

He put on his cotton-padded clothes, splashed some cold water on his face haphazardly, and then checked out and left.

When Zhang Cheng arrived at the rented apartment, Zhang Da Nao and the others were already waiting, stamping their feet in the cold wind.

"You guys go to the bus station first, I'll return the motorcycle!"

"Okay!"

"Brother, we'll wait for you at the bus station!"

More than an hour later, Zhang Cheng and his group of five boarded a bus bound for Jiaxing.

Zhang Jianhao and his friends were all riding in this kind of thing for the first time. They were like birds released from their cages, clinging to the windows and yelling at the scenery rushing past, attracting the attention of all the passengers.
