Zhang Cheng's eyes were as cold as ice as he calmly stared at Huang Pinyu, whose forehead was sweating.
He remained completely unmoved by this offer of "pledge of allegiance" that was offered to him unsolicited.
Huang Pinyu felt like a clown stripped naked, all her carefully prepared words and performance gone.
Before those all-knowing eyes of the other party, everything seemed ridiculous and laughable.
"I appreciate your sincerity."
Zhang Cheng finally spoke, his voice calm, yet it sent a chill down Huang Pinyu's spine.
He picked up the stack of documents without even opening them, as if they were just scraps of paper.
That's all for today.
After saying that, Zhang Cheng got up and walked straight to the door.
Huang Pinyu stood frozen in place, watching helplessly as the young figure disappeared behind the door, his back already soaked with cold sweat.
He knew he had made the right bet, but whether he would survive was still uncertain.
...
The door opened.
Dao Ge, who was guarding the door, rushed over obsequiously like a dog that had smelled meat.
"Mr. Zhang, have you finished talking with Boss Huang?"
Zhang Cheng ignored him and simply pointed with his chin towards the end of the corridor.
"Come with me."
"Okay!"
Brother Dao was overjoyed and followed behind eagerly, already planning how to spend the thousand yuan reward.
Zhang Cheng led him back to the room he had booked.
"Click".
The moment the door closed, a chilling killing intent locked onto Brother Dao.
Dao Ge's smile suddenly froze. Before he could react, a large, iron-like hand had already gripped his throat!
Zhang Cheng didn't even make any extra movements; he simply lifted him off the ground with one hand and slammed him hard against the wall!
"Bang!"
The violent impact made Dao Ge see stars, followed by a searing pain in his abdomen.
That was Zhang Cheng's merciless knee strike.
"Well……"
Dao Ge was like a shrimp whose belly had been stepped on, his body hunched over, unable to even scream, only able to dry heave in pain.
"Master Zhang... spare... spare my life..."
He looked up in horror and saw a pair of emotionless eyes.
That wasn't the gaze of a human; it was the gaze of a god looking down upon ants.
"Is there anything you want to say to me about Zhang Zhongming's matter?"
Zhang Cheng's voice was very soft, like a lover's whisper, yet it carried the chill of hell, drilling into Dao Ge's ears.
Dao Ge trembled all over, his mind went blank for a moment, and fear overwhelmed him like a tidal wave.
He knew that the man in front of him was truly capable of killing!
"Master Zhang! I'm innocent! I really couldn't do anything about Brother Zhongming's matter!"
Brother Dao, tears streaming down his face, explained incoherently:
"It was those guys from Northeast China who were causing trouble on the national highway every day. Brother Zhongming was afraid of getting involved, so he left on his own! Later... later he gathered a bunch of thugs to collect protection money, and I couldn't control them anymore!"
"Where are those guys from Northeast China now?" Zhang Cheng's tone remained calm.
"I...I don't know, Mr. Zhang!"
Zhang Cheng's eyes suddenly turned cold.
"Think about it again."
Brother Dao was terrified, feeling that if he said "no" again, his neck would be snapped on the spot.
"Yes! I can find them! Mr. Zhang! I can definitely help you find them!"
Zhang Cheng then released his grip.
Dao Ge collapsed to the ground like a rag doll, panting heavily. His eyes, as he looked at Zhang Cheng, were filled with nothing but primal fear.
Zhang Cheng walked slowly to the table, poured himself a glass of water, and drank it leisurely, as if he wasn't the one who had just suddenly attacked.
He sat in the chair, looking down at Brother Dao on the ground.
"Little Knife, how about a different way of life?"
Dao Ge was stunned for a moment, then overjoyed surged into his heart.
Is this... a way of giving me a helping hand?
"Master Zhang! I... I'm just a useless scoundrel, with a worthless life!" he tentatively and cautiously replied.
"You're worshipping Director Gao, aren't you?" Zhang Cheng's lips curled into a mocking smile.
“Master Zhang, you’re joking,” Brother Dao said with a mournful face. “In Director Gao’s eyes, I’m not even a dog. Otherwise, how could I have ended up like this today?”
"Very good, you have self-awareness."
Zhang Cheng nodded, as if he were evaluating a tool.
I'll give you a chance.
He stared into Dao Ge's eyes and said, word by word, "From today onwards, you will gather all the available scattered soldiers and outlaws in Jiaxing for me."
Dao Ge's heart pounded, and he stammered, "Master Zhang... that... that must cost a lot of money..."
"I'll give you five thousand yuan tomorrow morning."
Zhang Cheng tossed him a cigarette.
"Remember, gather everyone together and keep them in line. Don't cause any trouble. When and how you use them, wait for my orders."
Brother Dao was so excited that he trembled all over. He hurriedly took the cigarette and nodded heavily.
"Yes, Master Zhang! From this day forward, Xiao Dao's life belongs to you!"
"Your life is useless to me."
Zhang Cheng slowly exhaled a smoke ring, his gaze becoming deep and dangerous.
"All I want is you, to be a good, obedient dog for me."
He paused, then asked casually, "Oh, right, there's something else. You found out where Jiang Jingtang lives for me, didn't you?"
boom!
This question struck Dao Ge like a thunderbolt!
His blood froze instantly, his face drained of color, and with a thud, he collapsed to his knees, his body trembling like a leaf.
Jiang Jingtang! Why would he suddenly ask about this?!
"Speak," Zhang Cheng said calmly. "I don't intend to blame you."
