Chapter 144 The Root of the Trouble

Just after the New Year, Su Xiangnan took Gu Xue to Beijing.

Zhou Xianye has now found a job at the cigarette factory, where he goes to transport goods, and he has a stable livelihood.

Xiaoli and Xiaojuan happily went to school with their schoolbags on their backs.

The most relaxed person in the family is Meng Shuyun. She takes care of the children on weekdays and goes into the kitchen to prepare meals whenever she has free time. She lives a peaceful and carefree life.

The hair accessory business was meticulously managed by the two sisters, Su Xiulan and Su Xiumei, so she didn't need to worry about it at all.

Seeing the new house completed, Meng Shuyun went over to clean it with great joy.

Mingyue and Minghui peered curiously from their small bed, filled with anticipation for their new home.

In order to choose an auspicious day to move in, they even specially invited a feng shui master.

The gentleman calculated that in two days it would be an auspicious day for moving.

The new house is a two-story brick building. The first floor is used to put a sewing machine, and the second floor is used as a living room. It is spacious and impressive.

When Meng Shuyun cleaned the inner room, a pungent smell hit her, just like the smell of rotting dead chickens and ducks, making her frown.

But after looking inside and out, they found nothing unusual.

On the day they moved into their new house, the Meng family was bustling with activity. People from the village came to offer their congratulations with gifts, and the courtyard was filled with people enjoying the feast.

This is the first brick house in the village, a two-story building, it's incredibly impressive. Even the dogs passing by barked excitedly, as if they were joining in the fun.

Who would have thought that just as the firecrackers stopped and the banquet was about to begin, an uninvited guest would suddenly barge in.

The person who came was Mao Xiaoli. Beside her was a strangely dressed man with a stubble beard, holding a compass in his hand, his eyes half-closed and half-open, looking like a madman. It was obvious that he had come to play tricks.

Someone in the crowd with sharp eyes recognized Mao Xiaoli at a glance and couldn't help but exclaim, "Oh, Aunt Mao, the Meng family is moving into their new house, but they didn't invite you, did they? And here you are, empty-handed! You really are capable of anything!"

Mao Xiaoli, however, paid no heed to the accusations from the crowd. With a look of utter disbelief, she coldly sneered, "You can laugh all you want now, but you won't be laughing later. You'll regret eating Meng Shuyun's dirty meal!"

As soon as these words were spoken, the superstitious elderly people in the village couldn't sit still and gathered around to ask questions.

Just then, the Taoist priest suddenly opened his eyes wide, put his index and middle fingers together, pointed at the center of the Meng family's main hall, and shouted sharply: "This is a haunted house, full of evil spirits!"

You're still leisurely eating here, but soon a vengeful ghost will come to claim your lives, and you'll be plagued by bad luck!

As he spoke, he clenched his fists, and a yellow talisman instantly ignited at his fingertips. This bizarre display startled everyone at the banquet.

"No way, is the Meng family really a haunted house? No wonder I felt a chill as soon as I entered the main room!"

"They must have used ill-gotten gains to attract evil spirits. No wonder they have so much money to build houses; their money came from illegitimate sources!"

The village elders, chattering amongst themselves, turned what was originally a lively banquet into a chaotic and unsettling affair, leaving everyone feeling anxious.

Some people, however, were skeptical and retorted with their hands on their hips, "What ghosts and gods? Chairman Mao said we shouldn't be superstitious. You're still doing this? If this had happened a few years ago, you might have been reported and dragged into a public denunciation meeting!"

"That's right, Aunt Mao, I think you're just jealous that the Meng family is doing better than you, so you're deliberately coming to cause trouble, aren't you?"

The commotion outside grew louder and louder. Meng Shuyun wiped her hands on her apron and quickly walked out.

Upon seeing Mao Xiaoli, her brows furrowed instantly, and she asked coldly, "What are you doing in my house? You're not welcome here, get out of here!"

The moment the fake Taoist priest saw Meng Shuyun appear, he immediately became possessed, circling around her three times to the left and three times to the right, burning one yellow talisman after another in his hand.

He kept muttering to himself, "Ominous! Extremely ominous! Utterly ominous!"

Your destiny is fraught with misfortune, bringing harm to your husband and children. Those close to you will inevitably be plagued by bad luck. Your features are extremely fierce and menacing; you cannot remain in this world. The only way to avert this misfortune is to uproot the root of it all!

After saying that, he pointed his finger sharply at the newly built two-story brick house of the Meng family.

Upon hearing this, whether they believed it or not, they were all intimidated by the stinky Taoist priest, and they all dropped their bowls and chopsticks and left the Meng family courtyard.

Seeing this, Mao Xiaoli added fuel to the fire, suddenly slapping her thigh and bursting into tears:

"I knew my daughter had been ruined so badly. It turns out the root of all the trouble was with Meng Shuyun! It's all because of you that you caused your eldest son to die, sent Su Dahai to prison, and even drove our Jiang Xue crazy."

Our Jiang family has been ruined by your son!

Not only did they slaughter us all, they also caused us financial losses. It seems that anyone related to you will suffer the same fate.

Good heavens, why don't you open your eyes and strike this scourge dead with a bolt of lightning!

Everyone, please judge for yourselves, is this really the case?

If you get any closer to Meng Shuyun, you're bound to be plagued by bad luck; she's a menace.

The tragedy that befell our Jiang family is something everyone has witnessed, and it was all thanks to Meng Shuyun.

"If we don't tear down this house and take Meng Shuyun in, we'll all be doomed!"

Meng Shuyun's face instantly darkened, her heart burning with rage: Ha!

They're just asking for a beating.

Without any hesitation, she slapped the stinking Taoist priest's rambling mouth hard: "You dare to pick a fight with me? Since I'm destined to be cursed, I'll curse you first today and beat you up first!"

After saying that, Meng Shuyun shouted, "Kang Shun, Xianye, Xiangyang, grab your weapons!"

Upon hearing the shouts, the three men immediately grabbed their weapons and rushed out in a rage, giving the stinking Taoist priest a sound beating.
