The night was as dark as ink, with only the occasional bark of a dog.
Just as Meng Shuyun was about to respond to Gu Xue, she heard Li Quan shouting loudly from outside the courtyard, yelling that a phone call was coming.
Meng Shuyun's heart tightened, and she quickly put on the coat and hurried to Li Quan's house.
When she arrived at Li Quan’s house, Meng Shuyun picked up the receiver and tried her best to calm herself down.
"Hello, is this the Su family?" A strange woman's voice came from the other end of the phone, clear yet with an enigmatic tone.
Meng Shuyun's alarm bells went off instantly, various thoughts flashed through her mind involuntarily, and her heart jumped into her throat.
Could it be that Su Xiangnan encountered some danger outside and was rescued by this woman?
Such scenes are frequently shown on television, and at this moment, the idea flashed through her mind like lightning.
Although Meng Shuyun was extremely anxious, she pretended to be calm and deliberately said, "No, who are you looking for? Who is it? You must have dialed the wrong number."
"Hello, Aunt Meng, I'm Xiang Nan's friend. This phone number was given to us by him. He's run into some trouble recently and specifically asked me to remind you that it's best not to go out."
Don't worry, Xiang Nan and I are sworn brothers. He was worried about you being alone in your hometown and that you might run into trouble, so he specially arranged a safe place for you.
"Tomorrow, our people will come to guide you. Aunt Meng, please stay home and wait. Don't wander around, otherwise we can't guarantee your safety, and we won't be able to explain it to Xiang Nan later."
The voice on the other end of the phone spoke eloquently and with a hint of concern.
"Really? How is Xiang Nan? Let him answer the phone, we're all so worried about him."
Meng Shuyun spoke urgently, her voice filled with worry.
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone before a reply came: "Going south isn't convenient right now. You'll be able to see him once you've reached a safe place."
The other party repeatedly reminded them to be ready to be picked up the next day, and emphasized the level of danger.
Meng Shuyun hung up the phone, her brows furrowed tightly, her face full of seriousness.
This is strange; it's clearly a trap set by someone to deliberately lure them in.
If I actually go with them tomorrow, the consequences will be unimaginable.
Zhang Laidi, wearing a coat, approached anxiously and asked, "Auntie, how's things going with Xiang Nan? Has the matter been resolved?"
Meng Shuyun was silent for a moment, gritted her teeth, and made a bold decision: "Laidi, I have to trouble you with this. Tell Quanzi to take us to the train station now."
Zhang Laidi stared wide-eyed in surprise. Why would she have to go to the train station overnight just to answer a phone call?
"Auntie, is something wrong? Why are you rushing to catch the train tonight?"
Meng Shuyun leaned close to Zhang Laidi's ear and whispered some instructions before hurrying home to pack her luggage.
At this moment, the whole family was waiting for her in the main room, which saved her the trouble of notifying them one by one.
As soon as Meng Shuyun entered the main room, she said with a serious expression, "Now pack your things and come with me to Guangshi."
Upon hearing this, everyone was immediately in an uproar, staring at Meng Shuyun in astonishment. Su Xiulan couldn't help but ask, "Mother, what's going on? Does everyone have to go?"
Su Xiumei chimed in, "Yes! Xiaoli and Xiaojuan still have to go to school. Did something happen to Xiangnan?"
Meng Shuyun nodded and recounted the details of the phone call she had just received: "The other party is clearly setting up a scam. If they find us tomorrow, they might use some tricks. If we are controlled by them, it will be disadvantageous for Xiang Nan."
Upon hearing this, everyone's expression changed drastically. The sisters Su Xiumei and Su Xiulan turned deathly pale, and even Gu Xue's face turned ashen with fright.
Meng Shuyun hurriedly called Zhou Xianye over and said urgently, "Go into the city right now and tell Xiuju, Jiaqi and Su Xiangyang to pack their things. You go and pick them up at the train station and buy them the earliest tickets available."
Upon hearing this, Zhou Xianye knew the situation was urgent, so he immediately hopped on his bicycle and sped off into the city.
The family began frantically packing their bags. Xiaoli and Xiaojuan, still half asleep and not fully awake, had no idea what was happening.
But as soon as he heard that he was going to Guangzhou, he was wide awake and his eyes lit up with excitement. He thought he was going to Guangzhou for fun and happily packed his little bag.
The two little ones, Mingyue and Minghui, were exceptionally well-behaved, neither crying nor fussing, and sat quietly to the side.
The family boarded Li Quan's tractor and, under the cover of night, quietly left the village, heading towards the county town.
Upon arriving in the county town, they picked up Su Xiangyang, Su Xiuju, and others.
Su Xiangyang tossed his bundle onto the tractor, climbed on, his face grim, and muttered to himself:
"Why the sudden urge to go to the train station? Why are you making such a fuss so late at night instead of sleeping? If I skip work tomorrow, I won't have any money to pay the rent this month!"
Looking at her ignorant son, Meng Shuyun was furious and said irritably, "Is your money more important, or your life?"
If you're not happy with my decision, get off the bus now, go back to sleep, and I don't care if you live or die!
Upon hearing this, Su Xiangyang touched his nose and obediently shut his mouth.
He knew very well that he dared not easily refute Meng Shuyun's decision; he had suffered a lot when he went against Meng Shuyun last time.
The group arrived at the train station. The ticket sellers had already gone off duty, but the station was bustling with people waiting for their trains overnight.
