Outside the railway director's office.
Meng Shuyun helped Su Xiuju fix her hair, handed her a glass of warm water to ease her tension, and comforted her gently, "Don't be afraid, it's just an interview, it doesn't matter whether you pass or not, there are plenty of other job opportunities."
Su Xiuju nodded slightly, her hands unconsciously clenching, silently encouraging herself.
At that moment, the office door opened, and a girl walked out.
The mother and daughter looked closely and realized it was Qin Daya!
She wore lipstick and a blue and white plaid dress, and after dressing up, she actually looked quite attractive.
"What are you doing here?" Su Xiuju asked in surprise, her eyes fixed on the person who came out from inside.
Qin Daya frowned, not expecting to run into Su Xiuju on the same day.
She tossed her braid behind her, tilted her head back, and said with a hint of arrogance, "If you can come, why can't I? Are you blind? Of course I'm here for an interview."
"Xiuju, you go in for your interview first. I'll handle things here," Meng Shuyun said softly, gesturing for her youngest daughter to go inside.
This Qin Daya is Qin Hongying's daughter. Meng Shuyun grabbed her arm, her eyes like knives: "You're here for an interview? Did Su Dahai also give you a letter of introduction? Are you here to compete for the broadcaster position?"
Qin Daya's eyes darted around as she tried desperately to break free from Meng Shuyun's grip, but she failed and instead broke out in a cold sweat.
"Auntie, let me go, or I'll call for help! What job I'm interviewing for is none of your business!"
Meng Shuyun sneered, thinking to herself, "When did Su Dahai become so kind? So he was waiting for me here."
He tightened his grip and stared at Qin Daya, saying, "Fine, this job is my daughter's. Go in now and explain things clearly, or you won't be leaving here today."
Qin Daya's eyes welled up with tears, and her eyes reddened.
She came first, and she's already passed the interview and can start work tomorrow.
This job is hers.
"Don't you understand the principle of first come, first served? This job is mine. You're the ones who are late. What does it have to do with me?"
Meng Shuyun abruptly shook off Qin Daya, and seeing that Qin Daya's nose bubbled with snot when she cried, she couldn't help but frown in disgust.
"Okay, you can have this job if you want, but I bought it from Su Dahai for five hundred yuan."
If you give me five hundred dollars now, this job is yours.
If you can't produce it, I'll take you to the police station and accuse you of impersonation.
Qin Daya panicked and took several steps back, her eyes darting around as she tried to find a chance to slip away.
Meng Shuyun said nonchalantly, "Go ahead and run. You can run, but you can't hide. Go ahead and run, and see if I bring the police to your door."
Qin Daya was completely intimidated. Her legs went weak and she collapsed to the ground, grabbing Meng Shuyun's hand and trying to argue.
"Auntie, Uncle Su asked me to come here for the job. I didn't know this job belonged to Xiuju."
If I had known, I definitely wouldn't have come!
I've passed the interview and can start work tomorrow. Grandpa Su has plenty of money; just ask him for your 500 yuan. Give me the job, though.
Qin Daya cried very sadly. The area where the director's office was located was rarely visited, and the corridor was quiet and deserted.
Meng Shuyun watched coldly, "Who are you crying for? And you're crying so ugly."
"You can't just get away with a few words. Stay put."
Inside the office.
Su Xiuju placed the letter of introduction in front of her desk, indicating her purpose.
A middle-aged woman wearing glasses sat behind the desk, and a nameplate on the desk read: Su Dongmei.
After hearing Su Xiuju's words, she looked up. "Introduced by the Lin family? Didn't they just come by? They passed the interview. Is there anything else you want to say?"
Su Xiuju's breath hitched. She knew it was Qin Daya impersonating her, but she was speechless and didn't know how to defend herself.
Su Dongmei looked at Su Xiuju across from her with some impatience, "Comrade, is there anything else?"
Su Xiuju's fingers were icy cold, but her palms were covered in sweat.
She was truly unwilling to give up her job as a broadcaster.
Besides, this was something her mother had worked so hard to get for her, something she had been hoping for for a long time, and she didn't want to disappoint her mother.
Just then, the train station's announcement came on, and Su Xiuju mustered her courage and raised her head.
"Good morning, everyone. The train is about to arrive at the station. Please take your luggage with you..."
She read it aloud clearly and without missing a single word. "The next train will arrive at 1:00 PM, bound for Qingshan County, and the train at 1:50 PM will depart for Xiang County..."
Su Xiuju memorized the day's train schedule perfectly in one go, her initial tension and fear gone.
She looked at Su Dongmei with a firm gaze and smiled shyly, "Director Su, I believe I am capable of being a broadcaster. Please give me a chance."
Su Dongmei was quite surprised, unexpectedly discovering that this was a promising talent, with a pleasant voice and composure under pressure.
She picked up the letter of introduction on the table, opened it, and immediately understood everything.
"Comrade Su Xiuju, you did a good job. There are no problems on your end. Please bring the materials to fill out the basic information tomorrow. When you leave, please call Comrade Qin Daya in. Thank you."
Su Xiuju's eyes welled up with tears. She nodded vigorously, a bright smile spreading across her face. "Thank you, Director Su. I will definitely do my best."
When Meng Shuyun saw Su Xiuju come out of the office, she had a smile on her face, but her eyes were filled with glistening tears.
The mother and daughter met eyes, and she already knew that the job was settled!
"Qin Daya, Director Su wants to see you. Please come in for a moment." Su Xiuju relayed the message to Qin Daya, who was lying on the ground in a disheveled state.
Qin Daya got up, wiped her nose haphazardly, and went into the office.
As Meng Shuyun and Su Xiuju walked downstairs, they talked. "We'll buy a fish and kill a chicken tonight to celebrate you finding a job."
Su Xiuju's blush hadn't faded yet; she linked arms with Meng Shuyun, smiling broadly.
"Mom, I'll have a job starting tomorrow, and I'll give you my monthly salary to manage. Let's skip the chicken killing; how about we have tofu for dinner tonight?"
The two hadn't gone far when Qin Daya caught up, spreading her arms to block their way, her face streaked with tears.
"Su Xiuju, why did you steal my job? I was here first, what right do you have to take it from me?"
Su Xiuju looked at Qin Daya, who was crying her eyes out, her delicate eyebrows furrowed, and she didn't know how to answer for a moment.
Meng Shuyun stepped forward and slapped Qin Daya twice to bring her to her senses.
"What do you mean, 'your job'? You clearly tried to impersonate someone else, failed, and your boss doesn't respect you, yet you still have the nerve to throw a tantrum in front of me."
Qin Daya cried uncontrollably, pointing at Meng Shuyun, her heart filled with grievance and resentment.
"That's my job. You're not allowed to leave. Come with me now to talk to the director and get my job back."
