Chapter 55: The poisoned chicken tasted so good it made me jump for joy!

At the dinner table, the old Chinese medicine doctor whom Su Dahai, Su Xiangbei, and Jiang Xue had invited all set out without any hesitation to reach for the chicken on the plate and ate with great relish.

Seeing that Su Xiangnan was sitting silently with his head down, not touching his chopsticks, Su Dahai asked:

"Xiangnan, why aren't you eating?" he said, picking up a chicken leg and placing it steadily into Su Xiangnan's bowl.

"Sister-in-law, you've been craving chicken legs, here you go." Jiang Xue followed suit, placing a chicken leg into Gu Xue's bowl.

Gu Xue stared at the chicken leg in the bowl but didn't dare to touch it, looking longingly at Su Xiangnan.

Su Xiangnan gently soothed, "Didn't you just eat duck legs? Don't eat chicken legs anymore, or you'll get indigestion. If you still want some, I'll take you to buy some tomorrow, okay?"

Although Gu Xue was craving it, she always listened to Su Xiangnan, so she obediently nodded and just ate her vegetables in silence.

Jiang Xue's face fell instantly. What did Su Xiangnan mean by this?

Are you upset because there's saliva on my chopsticks?

She's not some rich heiress, why is she being so picky!

Su Xiangnan ate a few bites of vegetables, then put down his chopsticks and took Gu Xue back to their room.

After eating and drinking his fill, Su Xiangbei picked his teeth and instructed the old Chinese medicine doctor to examine Su Xiangnan's leg.

"Open the door to the south! This is an old Chinese medicine doctor I went to great lengths to invite, specializing in treating your legs. I know it's inconvenient for you to go out, but this old doctor is famous throughout the surrounding area. He's an expert at treating legs, and it took a lot of effort to invite him."

Su Xiangbei banged on the door and shouted.

"I won't see a doctor, I won't treat it, I'm full and I'm leaving."

Su Xiangnan, who was inside the room, replied coldly.

Their thoughts were written all over their faces; how could he not see them?

Su Xiangbei was still patiently trying to persuade him at the door when Su Dahai reached out and patted him on the shoulder, asking suspiciously:

"Invited from all around? I've never heard of such a person. Which town is he from, and what's his name?"

The old Chinese medicine doctor cleared his throat and introduced himself: "I am Li Zhengzong, the eighteenth generation descendant of the Li family..."

Before he could finish speaking, Su Xiangbei suddenly clutched his stomach, beads of sweat the size of soybeans dripping from his forehead, and he couldn't even straighten his back.

"Doctor, my stomach hurts. Let my brother rest his legs for a bit, and take a look at me first to see what's wrong!"

Su Dahai also clutched his stomach, cold sweat pouring down his face, looking no better than Su Xiangbei.

"Ah! Su Xiangbei, my stomach hurts so much! I'm going to die!" Jiang Xue's pig-like screams came from inside the house.

Su Xiangbei grabbed the old Chinese medicine doctor's hand, pointed into the house, and gestured for him to quickly take a look at his wife.

Jiang Xue is pregnant, so we absolutely cannot let anything happen to her!

The old Chinese medicine doctor himself was in so much pain that he couldn't even straighten his back, so how could he possibly be capable of treating them?

To put it bluntly, he's just a fraudster who tells people to drink more hot water whenever he has a headache or fever.

A kind neighbor, hearing the commotion at the Su family's home, rushed over and found the whole family writhing on the ground in pain.

They quickly ran to call the village chief and took the person to the clinic.

At the Meng family's house, the door repairman fixed the door, replaced a part, and added a lock, which cost a total of ten yuan.

No sooner had the craftsman left than Meng Shuyun busied herself cutting fabric and sewing hair accessories, keeping herself incredibly busy.

She naturally noticed the commotion in the Su family's yard next door.

Her family's chicken is indeed delicious. Look at Su Dahai's family, they're so moved by how delicious it is they're jumping up and down!

When Su Xiuju returned home from get off work, she was shocked to see a group of Su family members being carried out of the yard.

"Mother, what's wrong with them?"

"They got their comeuppance, they deserved it! The whole family is heartless, even God couldn't stand it and had to punish them."

Hearing her mother's gloating tone, Su Xiuju wondered to herself: What's going on?

Meng Shuyun kept an eye on the commotion next door. Heh, she couldn't stop them no matter what she tried. What could she do?

No matter how much we tried to persuade them, they wouldn't listen and insisted on eating the chicken.

They couldn't be stopped!

Meng Shuyun stood at the door, watching the Su family members being carried out one by one like piglets. Her gaze met Jiang Xue's, and a polite smile played on her lips.

Jiang Xue, who was lying on the stretcher, was the loudest, but she suddenly realized what was happening.

It was Meng Shuyun who poisoned the chicken!

"Head north, it's Mother! She poisoned the chicken! It must be her!"

As soon as she shouted, all the neighbors who had been watching the commotion turned to look at Meng Shuyun.

Meng Shuyun raised an eyebrow, her expression calm: "A perfectly good chicken, why would I keep it for myself? Do you think I'd let her have it? Dream on, I haven't even had a taste myself yet."

"That's right. Sister Meng is usually very stingy. She'll suck on the chicken bones several times before throwing them away, let alone chicken. How could she be so generous as to give them chicken to eat?"

"I think so too, Jiang Xue. Did your whole family pick some poisonous mushrooms outside and get poisoned?"

"Otherwise, why would Sister Meng give you the chicken? You've all separated your households, and Xiulan is back, isn't she? Why would she give it to you instead of her? I don't believe it."

Jiang Xue was so angry she almost couldn't catch her breath and had to be carried to the clinic. The village chief was overwhelmed with work.

Meng Shuyun raised an eyebrow slightly, realizing that she was seen as so stingy by others!

Are they really that stingy?

Su Xiuju held her hand, her face full of worry: "Mother, will they... be alright?"

"How would I know! I'm not a doctor. If you want to know, come along and take a look."

Su Xiuju hurriedly shook her head: "No, it has nothing to do with me. If I go, they'll probably scold me."

Meng Shuyun looked at her youngest daughter with some surprise. In her memory, she got along quite well with the three brothers, and yesterday she was talking about going to see Su Xiangnan.
