Chapter 9 Both of my ungrateful sons came asking for money.

Meng Shuyun jumped out of the car, readily took out a dollar and a cigarette, handed them over, and explained with a smile.

"Hey bro, what do you think of my beat-up car? My kids need to go to school, so I thought I'd try my luck here and make some money to help out my family."

The old man glanced at the thing in Meng Shuyun's hand, quite satisfied that she knew how to handle things, put it in his pocket, and waved his hand with a smile.

"Go inside and turn right. The third guy eating sunflower seeds says he wants to buy one. Go ask him if that's true."

"Thank you so much, big brother!" Meng Shuyun quickly thanked him and pedaled her bike inside.

When Meng Shuyun found the guy eating sunflower seeds, she was quite surprised. She didn't expect him to be a young man with blond hair. He looked so young that he didn't even seem to be eighteen.

"Do you collect bicycles?" she asked tentatively.

The blond-haired boy's real name was Li Dashun, and his nickname was "Street Rogue."

He was a skinny little kid, but his eyes were incredibly sharp. He glanced at the bicycle, put his hands in his pockets, and quoted a price: "One hundred and fifty, take it or leave it, no haggling."

Meng Shuyun looked at the blond-haired man in front of her who spoke with an air of maturity but looked like a child. The contrast was too great, and it was quite unsettling.

The car could be sold for 150, which was much higher than he had expected, so he readily agreed: "Cash on delivery."

The other party was straightforward; he rummaged through his pockets, counted out 150 yuan, some in small change and some in larger bills, and handed it over with his left hand.

Meng Shuyun took the money and paused for a moment when she saw his left hand. He was missing a section of his little finger, and there was a scar extending upwards from the base of his thumb, which looked rather frightening.

Meng Shuyun took the money, counted it carefully, and asked seemingly casually, "You're the street thug who's fastest at escaping from the black market, aren't you? At your age, why aren't you in school?"

When Meng Shuyun asked this question, she could clearly sense that the person opposite her became wary, and his eyes gradually turned unfriendly.

Li Dashun fiddled with his bicycle and mumbled a reply, "Why are you asking this? I'm an unregistered resident, I can't go to school. If the money's not a problem, then hurry up and leave."

Meng Shuyun carefully recalled the newspaper she had seen in her previous life; it was a sensational case of buying and selling and kidnapping that shocked the entire county!

Three people died and two were injured. The assailant was armed. It was the work of one person, and it was extremely heinous. The man's hands were even published in the newspapers, and he was reportedly an undocumented immigrant. Public outrage was immense. The verdict was handed down the next day: the perpetrator was executed on the spot.

Unexpectedly, the person who incited public outrage and killed so many people was actually a child who was not yet an adult!

In her previous life, she only glanced at them briefly, but remembered those hands.

In retrospect, how could a child possibly be the culprit in such a heinous incident? He was merely a scapegoat pushed out.

The day of his execution, as announced in the newspaper, was ten days later.

"The money is no problem." Meng Shuyun carefully put the money away and casually said, "You're just a kid. It's not like you can't get your household registration back. Don't wander around aimlessly. I heard there's a crackdown going on recently. If they catch someone like you, you'll be in for a beating." After saying that, she stopped there and turned to leave.

Whether he can change his fate depends on himself.

She wasn't exactly a saint, but considering he was just a child, she was doing this to do good for her daughter.

Meng Shuyun firmly believes that good people will be rewarded.

After leaving the alley, Meng Shuyun headed straight for the largest supply and marketing cooperative in the county.

In my previous life, the news of my second daughter Su Xiulan's death came from a letter sent by the supply and marketing cooperative.

He was on a mission when he encountered a rainstorm, fell into a ravine, and died.

Today happens to be market day, and the area outside the supply and marketing cooperative is full of people with their families.

Xiulan was tall and slender, with a large pregnant belly. She was holding a notebook and busy recording and checking the inventory.

Meng Shuyun spotted her at a glance, and her eyes immediately welled up with tears.

The county town isn't far; it only costs one yuan to take a bus into town, and it takes only two hours by bicycle.

Why did I never come to see this place in my previous life?

He was a living, breathing human being!

If Xiulan doesn't come to see me, does that mean I can't go to see her?

Meng Shuyun felt extremely guilty and lowered her head to wipe away her tears.

Looking up again, Xiulan put down her notebook, beaming, and was talking to Ye Jianguo across from her, carrying a thermos in her hand.

After exchanging only a few words, Ye Jianguo hurriedly left and got into a car.

From an angle that Xiulan couldn't see, a woman was sitting in the passenger seat of the car, touching up her lipstick with a mirror.

Meng Shuyun took a few steps closer, and this woman was the pregnant woman she had seen yesterday!

Ye Jianguo is truly remarkable; his seamless transitions make him a master of time management.

One second he was bringing food to Xiulan, the next he was chatting and laughing with another pregnant woman in the car.

His daughter stood at the entrance of the supply and marketing cooperative less than 100 meters away, holding a thermos and smiling happily.

Meng Shuyun was so angry that her hands trembled. She just watched as Ye Jianguo drove away with that woman and disappeared from sight.

She began to regret selling the bicycle too early; otherwise, she could have caught up with them now and seen where those two philandering lovers lived.

Xiulan is heavily pregnant now, and she wouldn't believe it if I told her this rashly, especially since Xiulan doesn't like her as her mother anymore.

Each time he asked for something in return, he never gave her anything in return.

"Xiulan," Meng Shuyun called softly, her gaze fixed on Xiulan's retreating figure.

When Su Xiulan heard someone call her name, her voice as clear and melodious as a nightingale's, she happily replied, "Yes! I'm here."

When she turned around and saw that it was Meng Shuyun, she froze for a moment, took two steps forward with her hand on her stomach, and said somewhat reluctantly.

"Mom, what brings you here? Xiangyang already asked me for money last week, and I haven't received my salary yet, so I don't have any money on me."

Meng Shuyun felt a pang of sorrow, her eyes instantly reddening as she choked out her explanation.

"I just came to see you, not to ask for money. That brat asked you for money last week!"

If he comes to you again in the future, don't give him anything; he's an ingrate.

"I divorced your father yesterday. Those ungrateful wretches are no longer a problem."

Su Xiulan looked at her mother, who was over fifty years old, in surprise. She used to dote on her son like the apple of her eye, but now she was saying that she was divorcing her snobbish father!

Meng Shuyun explained, then stuffed the two hundred yuan from her pocket into Xiulan's hand, her tone sincere.

"Xiulan, I was sorry for you three sisters before. Now I know who is good to me. I know that you sisters all resent me as your mother. I don't blame you. I hope to make it up to you in the future."

Su Xiulan held the two hundred yuan in her hand, her vision blurred, and her heart felt a burning sensation. She wiped away her tears and stuffed the money back into her hand.

"Mom, I can't take this money. You keep it. You and Dad are divorced, but you still have to make a living. There will be plenty of expenses in the future."

"Isn't Xiangbei's wife about to give birth? You should keep this as a backup. Xiangyang will be starting school soon, and we'll need money everywhere."

Meng Shuyun stood there, speechless for a long time, and asked in shock, "That bastard boss also asked you for money!"
