Chapter 136 My Future Will Be Bright Without You (Part Two)

It has to be said that the profits from doing business these days are really high.

The 50 jin of toilet paper was carried onto the mule cart. Du Mei was so excited that she hugged the toilet paper tightly and wouldn't let go, as if it were a precious treasure.

From then on, Du Mei became a merchant. Every day, she would pull a cart filled with toilet paper and her two children sitting inside.

She called out repeatedly, "Who wants paper! Who wants paper!"

What was bound to happen eventually did. A few days later, Su Guojun and Liu Fengying arrived again. Fortunately, Wei Mingshen was prepared. As soon as he heard the voices of his mother-in-law and husband outside, he ducked into the wardrobe.

"Father, Mother, you've arrived." Su Xueli greeted them with a smile.

As soon as Su Guojun entered, he asked with a stern face, "Where is Ming Shen?"

Su Xueli said, "Oh, well, unfortunately, his old sergeant from when he was in the army died. He came to report the death this morning, and he and a few of his comrades went to the funeral."

After saying that, he apologized in his heart: "Old squad leader, I'm sorry for offending you. I'll curse you for ten years of good fortune, and things will get better and better for you."

Su Guojun immediately started cursing: "Damn it, this squad leader never picks when he's going to die... So when is he coming back?"

"His old squad leader lives quite far away; he took the train."

"What? He even took the train! Where did his old squad leader go?" Su Guojun was so angry that his eyes turned into copper bells.

Su Xueli suppressed a laugh and said, "His class monitor was originally from out of town, it's not like he died out there."

Su Guojun grumbled angrily, "Then why can't he just not go? Doesn't he know his own business?"

Su Xueli explained, "Dad, when Ming Shen and the others were in the army, that old sergeant treated them exceptionally well. Even if someone from far away died, you still had to go to their funeral. Besides, how could you not go when someone was reported dead?"

That's true. The deceased should be respected. Even if the news of a death is reported to the wrong family, the family still has to go to the family home to deliver the funeral paper.

Su Guojun's anger subsided after thinking about it. He sighed heavily and said, "Why is it that everything is so difficult to see a doctor? Is God deliberately playing tricks on us?"

Su Xueli stuck out her tongue. It wasn't God who was being mean; it was me.

She comforted her father, saying, "Dad, this illness won't get better in a day or two. Don't worry, sit down, drink some water, and have some snacks."

Su Guojun waved his hand and said, "I'm not drinking anymore. I have things to do when I get home. Sigh, it's just one worry after another. What did we do to deserve this? Everyone's having a bad day."

Su Xueli looked at her mother questioningly.

Liu Fengying said to her, "It's still about your brother Fengzi. He didn't come home for the New Year. Your uncle and grandfather are furious. They're telling your father and brother to go and make a scene at that hairdresser's house again."

Su Xueli shouted, "What right do you have to cause trouble for them? Did you see Yunfeng in their house?"

Su Guojun said, "It's as obvious as a bald man's head. Can people fly or go underground? They're hiding in her house. If we don't teach them a lesson, they'll think the Su family is easy to bully."

After saying that, he waved his hand and said, "You go ahead with your business. I'm leaving with your mother. When Mingshen comes back, take him to our house. I won't come here anymore, okay?"

Su Xueli stopped him and advised, "Dad, please don't bring people to He Yulan's house. If something happens, we'll have to bear the consequences."

Su Guojun said to her, "You're just a little girl, don't worry about so much. Be more mindful and mind your own business."

Su Xueli had no choice but to shut up.

After his parents left, Wei Mingshen struggled to crawl out of the closet. He sat down on a stool, took a breath, and complained, "Why did you say my old sergeant was dead? He was so good to us when I first joined the army."

Su Xueli asked, "Then who did I say died?"

Wei Mingshen was speechless, muttering, "It really is true. Let my old squad leader help me one more time. Let me tell you in advance who will die next time."
