"Go now, you silly woman!" Su Guojun also jumped off the bed.
"Sherry! Sherry!" the elderly couple called from outside the door.
Su Xueli was woken up from her dream and asked angrily, "What is it?!"
The elderly couple shouted in unison, "Open the door!"
Su Xueli rolled over and muttered, "I won't open it."
The elderly couple were terrified. "Open the door! Be a good child, don't do anything rash. Your parents can't live without you..."
Su Xueli sensed something was wrong and, unable to fall asleep, asked, "What do you two mean?"
Liu Fengying sobbed, "Daughter, please don't do anything rash. Open the door and let your parents come in to see you."
Su Xueli didn't say anything more, got out of bed and opened the door for them.
"Sherry, are you alright?" Her mother asked as soon as she entered the room, touching her all over.
Her father stared at her anxiously.
Su Xueli was both amused and exasperated: "I'm perfectly fine, not a single hair is missing."
Relieved, Liu Fengying left her and opened the drawer of her bedside table, grabbing a pair of scissors and a hairpin. She then handed them to Su Guojun, saying, "Take these back. I'll sleep with my daughter."
Su Guojun took it and whispered to her, "Don't sleep too soundly."
She nodded. "Yes, don't worry."
Su Xueli chuckled.
He couldn't stop laughing, and he squatted down on the ground, clutching his stomach and crying out, "Ouch!"
Su Guojun and Liu Fengying stared at each other.
After laughing, Su Xueli climbed back onto the bed and looked at them, saying, "Dad, Mom, your daughter is doing very well. She's free, she's been reborn, and she's going to live this life to the fullest. She's not going to try anything like suicide. She even wants to ask heaven for another five hundred years."
Su Guojun muttered, "What nonsense are you talking about? Are you really alright?"
Su Xueli assured, "If anything happens to me, I'll be a dog."
Su Guojun turned and walked out, saying, "You're so irresponsible. Fengying, you should sleep with your daughter."
He went outside and closed the door.
Looking at her daughter with heartache, Liu Fengying said, "Xueli, your parents are really worried about you. We're afraid you might do something rash. Don't pretend anymore. If you want to cry, then cry. If you want to curse, then curse."
Su Xueli was at her wit's end. So, she couldn't just stay quiet and not make a fuss?
She said earnestly, "Mom, your daughter is really okay. Your daughter is no longer that silly girl, she's a smart girl now. She will never be silly again, now or in the future. She only loves herself and you. She won't pay attention to any good man. She wants to be a nun who exterminates evil spirits."
Liu Fengying looked at her daughter with some skepticism. She felt that her daughter was a little different, but she couldn't quite put her finger on it.
Su Xueli noticed the confusion on her mother's face, so she smiled and gave her a big bear hug. "Mom, I haven't slept with you in so long. Let me lie in your arms and have a baby's sleep tonight."
As she spoke, she pulled her mother into the quilt, buried her face deeply in her chest, and, inhaling that familiar scent, she wept.
