She led the two little girls, who had eaten and drunk their fill, to their house. Du Mei was still fast asleep. Aunt Tian hurriedly went home to eat and then came back.
"Sister Tian, thank you for your hard work," Su Xueli greeted her softly.
Aunt Tian pulled the two young girls aside and said to Su Xueli, "You've worked hard too. It must have been tough for you, a new bride, to take care of these two girls."
Su Xueli said, "What's the big deal? They don't need to be carried or held. Just make sure they're fed."
Sister-in-law Tian shook her head and cursed, "Yes, look, all our neighbors feel sorry for the children. When the children are hungry, they will give them food wherever they go. But this old woman won't let them eat their fill or stay warm. Why did God give that old witch a human skin?"
Su Xueli then joined her in cursing the second old woman for a while.
Sister-in-law Tian said to Su Xueli, "Xueli, you're a new bride. Leave the child with me and go back. Otherwise, my brother Mingshen will get worried."

Wei Mingshen followed behind her and said, "By the way, Mom won't let you do any more work tomorrow. She'll take you to the market."
Su Xueli shook her head, "No, I'm going to work. I'll work until midnight tonight, and then we'll go to the city department store to sell them tomorrow. If you want to shop, just go shopping in the city."
