She immediately told the dog to shut up, then got up and went outside the courtyard gate to check the situation.
She saw a little figure huddled outside the courtyard gate.
Su Xueli recognized him; he was the child of the couple from earlier.
Thinking that they would be neighbors in the future, she greeted the little boy warmly: "Hello, have you eaten yet?"
The little boy didn't say anything, his eyes were fixed on the fried dough slice she was eating.
Su Xueli immediately understood; he had come closer because he smelled the fragrance of her oily film.
She said to him, "Come here, let me get you one."
The little boy came running over, and Su Xueli led him to the kitchen and handed him a fried dough stick, which he grabbed and ran off.
Su Xueli called out to him, "Come again if you're still hungry, there's more!"
"Yes!" the little boy answered crisply.
Su Xueli said to Dahuang, "Stop barking in broad daylight."
Big Yellow let out two "woof woof" sounds and squatted down at the doorway.
Su Xueli went back to the kitchen to continue eating.
The sound of footsteps came from outside again. Su Xueli smiled wryly. The child really came again. It seems that his mother has had enough of feeding him steamed buns every day when she goes to the market to sell them.
"My mom asked me to give these steamed buns to my aunt." The little boy held up a small steamed bun basket and handed it to her.
Su Xueli was surprised: there were five or six steamed buns in the small steamer basket.
But since they had already brought the child, she couldn't refuse, so she said, "Oh, little darling, your mother is too kind. Thank you so much."
She quickly took it, put the buns inside into her own steamed bun basket, and then put a few pieces of fried dough that her mother had made into the small steamed bun basket, saying, "Tell your mother when you get home that your sister will let her try some too."
The little boy happily picked up the small basket of steamed buns and ran off again.
Su Xueli finished eating a fried dough stick and then picked up a steamed bun.
The buns were still slightly warm, probably leftovers that people brought home to eat. She took a bite; they were filled with cabbage and pork, fragrant but not greasy, and she finished them in one go.
I thought to myself: That woman looks fierce, but her steamed buns are so delicious, and she seems quite kind.
She was drinking water when the woman came over with her child. Su Xueli quickly got up and invited her to sit down.
The woman came in and apologized, "My child is being naughty. He smelled the delicious food in your kitchen and came to ask for some. I hope he's not bothering you."
Su Xueli quickly said, "No, no, really no, big sister. I really like children. Thank you for the steamed buns too. They were delicious; I just ate one."
The woman smiled. "Really? Then I'll treat you to steamed buns often from now on."
Su Xueli said, "Thank you, elder sister."
The woman introduced herself, "My surname is Lü, my name is Xiuhua, and my child's nickname is Doudou. Where are you from, young lady? I haven't seen you before. Are you new here?"
Su Xueli patted Xiaodoudou's head and said, "Yes, Sister Xiuhua, I will live here from now on. My name is Su Xueli, you can just call me Xueli."
