The three of them talked until dusk before Yan Yan finally woke up.
She had never drunk so much alcohol before, and when she woke up she kept complaining of a headache.
Su Xueli massaged her temples, and Shao Jiang went to the kitchen to make her a bowl of ginger soup. After watching Yan Yan drink it, he gently asked, "Can I make you some millet porridge too?"
Yan Yan shook her head and said, "No need, my stomach is full."
When she sobered up, she became embarrassed and mumbled with her head down, "I drank too much just now, please don't laugh at me for talking nonsense..."
Shao Jiang immediately said, "What are you saying? That's not true. Yan Yan, but what I said to you just now wasn't drunken talk. I'll say it again now: I'm going to take care of your affairs. You're coming home with me. You'll be my mother's daughter and my sister. I absolutely won't allow you to continue to be bullied by those perverted parents."
Yan Yan felt this was unrealistic. If her own parents treated her this way, how could outsiders possibly love her dear daughter?
She forced a smile and declined, "Thank you for your kindness, Shao Jiang, but you can't interfere in my affairs. It's my fault for talking nonsense when I was drunk."
Shao Jiang frowned and looked at Yan Yan, saying, "Yan Yan, you think I acted on impulse, right? But let me tell you, I solemnly declare in front of my comrades and sister-in-law that I genuinely want to help you, and what I say today will always stand by me."
Yan Yan looked up at Shao Jiang in surprise.
Shao Jiang's eyes were full of sincerity and strength.
She was tempted... but she still lowered her head. Was he willing? Would his parents be willing? Who would accept a series of troubles brought about by someone who was a complete stranger to them?
She overlooked her own excellence; a girl as beautiful as her, what family with a son wouldn't want to take her in?
She was bullied and oppressed since childhood, and she lacks self-confidence.
Wei Mingshen spoke up, "Yan Yan, you may not know Shao Jiang very well, but I do. He's a man of his word. Since he wants to rescue you, just entrust yourself to him and trust him."
Su Xueli silently massaged Yan Yan's temples, observing her reaction.
After some internal struggle, Yan Yan finally refused, saying, "Thank you, Shao Jiang, but I'm getting married soon, so I'll just have to wait a few more months."
Shao Jiang was so angry that he slumped into a chair, his face terribly gloomy.
Wei Mingshen patted him on the shoulder and said, "Respect Yan Yan's decision. What she said makes sense."
Shao Jiang forced himself to calm down, then took a deep breath and said to Yan Yan, "Okay, I respect your decision, but remember, what I just said is still valid, and my door will always be open for you."
Yan Yan's eyes welled up with tears, and she choked up as she said, "Thank you so much, Shao Jiang. In all my life, besides Xue Li, you are the second person who has ever truly cared for me."
Shao Jiang interjected, "There will be a third one, and that's my mother."
Yan Yan nodded, tears of emotion streaming down her face. Shao Jiang felt a pang of heartache at the sight, and reached out to wipe them away, but then hurriedly withdrew his hand.
Yan Yan was suddenly startled to find herself sleeping in a man's bed. Startled, she jumped off the bed like a little bird and stood on the floor.
"Hey Yan Yan, sit down and put on your shoes," Su Xue Li reminded her.
Yan Yan's face flushed red, and she stammered to Shao Jiang, "This... Duo Duo, I'm so sorry... I slept in your bed."
Shao Jiang quickly waved his hand: "It's okay, it's okay, as long as you don't mind the dirt. Oh, don't worry, I wash my bankbook and bed sheets every three days. Look, these were brought back from the army, they're very clean."
Yan Yan laughed, "Of course I don't mind the dirt, I'm just afraid I'll dirty your bed."
"No, no, that won't happen." Shao Jiang grinned.
