Wei Mingshen stared at his sister with a stern face and asked, "Did you see Meizhi?"
Wei Mingyue shook her head. "No, I was already late. When I heard this, I was so scared that I ran home to tell you. But you only came back now, so I was in such a hurry."
Wei Mingshen was silent for a few seconds before making a decision. He instructed Wei Mingyue, "Don't tell anyone about this, and don't let your sister-in-law know either. I'll go ask Meizhi."
He handed the mule to her, saying, "You can rest the mule cart, feed it, and give it extra bran. I'm off."
Wei Mingyue readily agreed, "Okay, brother, go ahead."
As Wei Mingshen got on his bicycle and headed right into Su Xueli and the others, he said, "I'm going out for a bit, you guys go ahead and eat," and sped off on his bike.
Cao Maizi called from behind, "Where are you going? Aren't you tired after running around outside all day?"
But he had already turned out of the alley.
Su Xueli thought for a moment and then said to Cao Maizi, "Who cares? He must have something urgent to do. He's not a child. Let him run off."
Hearing his daughter-in-law say this, Cao Maizi breathed a sigh of relief and said, "That's right, a grown man can't just be abandoned, let's just leave him be."
