I must say, what she said makes a lot of sense.
But which couple in the throes of love would listen to such advice?
He Yulan lowered her head and said, "Mother, let me think about it."
The current irreconcilable conflict between her family and Su Yunfeng's family is causing her great pain and fear. Her mind is in turmoil, and she doesn't want to say anything more to her mother.
Hearing this, her mother seemed to have some room to maneuver, and breathed a sigh of relief. Then, she pressed her advantage: "Child, at least you're listening to your mother. Look, your third aunt has introduced you to another child today. This child is also from our Matou Town, on South Street. His family owns an oil press, and he can drive. He's currently driving for an official in the county town..."
"Mother, let's talk about this later. I've finished eating. You should go home and pack up your stall." He Yulan interrupted her mother.
The mother sighed helplessly and had no choice but to tell the truth: "Child, when I came here, your father and grandfather gave me a firm order: I must persuade you to agree to meet him. The boy will come to our house for a blind date tomorrow."
He Yulan was startled: "Mother, what did you say! Does my brother know?"
His brother was his only support in the family.
Mother said, "Your brother can't make this decision; it was your father and grandfather who made it."
He Yulan cried out, "Mother, I don't agree, I won't go on a blind date."
Mother shook her head: "It's no use talking to your mother. When has your mother ever been in charge of this family? It's always been your grandfather and father who have been in charge."
He Yulan hardened her heart and asked, "What if I don't want to go on blind dates?"
The mother said with a look of despair, "Your grandfather said that if you don't listen to him and go home for a blind date tomorrow, you're never going home again, and you won't be able to keep this barbershop open."
He Yulan looked terrified.
She knew her grandfather's temper; he meant what he said. Besides, she was a girl who had never been liked by her grandparents since childhood.
Her mother patted her head tenderly and whispered, "Daughter, why do you always have to go against your elders? Are there any elders in the world who are harmful to children? Listen to me, the shop will be closed tomorrow. Go home and wait for the boy to come to your house for a blind date."
He Yulan slumped into a chair and remained silent.
Her mother left with the box of dumplings, and He Yulan sat there in a daze.
The curtain rustled, but she didn't move or look.
"Magnolia!" Lin Meizhi called out to her.
He Yulan looked up at her and said weakly, "Your bangs aren't long yet, you don't need to cut them."
Lin Meizhi came over and patted her shoulder affectionately, saying with a smile, "Yulan, I'm not here for a haircut, I just need your help."
He Yulan was somewhat surprised and looked up at her.
Lin Meizhi asked, "You and Su Xueli are very close, right?"
Knowing that she and Su Xueli were rivals in love, He Yulan instinctively became wary upon hearing this and asked, "Is there something you need?"
Li Meizhi chuckled, "Don't be nervous. I'm not going to fight her. I'm here to apologize. We had a misunderstanding and things got really tense before because of a man. Now I've figured it out, and I want to make up with her and be friends. I'd like you to be my matchmaker."
