"No, I'll pour you some tea."
He Yujie took her wine glass to his own side, poured out the cold tea from her teacup, and refilled it with fresh tea.
He said, "Drink tea and eat vegetables."
Su Xueli was unhappy. "Teacher He, I'm not your student. I won't follow your arrangements."
He Yujie remained calm, but his tone was firm: "You are not my student, but for your safety, I have to decide how much alcohol you drink."
Su Xueli retorted, "Since I'm not your student, why should I listen to your arrangements?"
"Just because I drank with you, I have to be responsible for your safety."
"Then I won't drink with you, okay? You can go, I'll drink by myself."
He Yujie smiled gently: "How can that be? Since we've come together, we have to leave together."
Su Xueli said, "Are you still trying to cling to me?"
He Yujie smiled and said, "If you say so, then so be it."
Su Xueli snapped, "I'm happy today, I just want to drink to my heart's content, don't upset me, okay? If you know what's good for you, hand me the bottle."
He Yujie smiled helplessly: "Look, you've already had too much to drink. I won't give you any more."
He picked up his teacup and said, "Come on, I'll drink tea with you. You decide how many cups to drink, and we'll drink that many, okay?"
Su Xueli flung her hand, knocking over the teacup. She was stunned for a moment, and He Yujie immediately got up, picked up the teacup, and wiped the tea away from her with his hand to prevent it from getting on her.
He said good-naturedly, "It's alright, it's alright. The tea's gone cold anyway, I'll pour you some hot tea."
Then he poured her another hot cup, handed it to her, and said, "Listen to me, drink this hot tea to sober up."
Su Xueli glanced at him, then took the teacup and took a small sip. The tea was indeed more refreshing than wine. She took another sip and didn't put it down again.
He Yujie was very happy to see this. He picked up a piece of chicken and placed it in front of her, saying gently, "Eat some meat. You've been drinking all this."
Although Su Xueli still wanted to drink, she felt embarrassed to refuse such gentleness, so she picked up the piece of meat and put it in her mouth to chew slowly.
He Yujie asked her, "Do your family members know you're divorced?"
Su Xueli was brought back to reality, and she said, "I don't know."
He Yujie said, "Good news doesn't travel far, but bad news travels fast. This matter will probably spread by tomorrow. You can't hide it from your parents. If they find out from outsiders, they will be very worried about you."
He was right. Su Xueli was a little frustrated. "Yes, I should tell my parents today, but my mind is a mess... I'll do it tomorrow."
He Yujie then asked, "Do your parents know that you rented a house here?"
Su Xueli shook her head: "Of course I don't know. I'll tell you tomorrow."
He Yujie said, "No, your parents might hear about it from someone else tomorrow. Go back tonight and tell them everything."
Su Xueli stared at him for a few seconds and then smiled, saying, "You really are a teacher, so thoughtful and proper. But I don't want to go back tonight; I want some peace and quiet."
He Yujie insisted: "Xueli, listen to me, go back to your parents tonight, you need them."
Su Xueli shook her head: "You're wrong, I'm really fine, I don't need comforting."
