"Shut up!" Su Xueli yelled.
He chuckled smugly, looking like he'd gotten a good deal.
After the shed was tidied up, the two of them carried the thatch from the truck into the shed together.
There was a whole cartload of thatch, so it needed to be stacked properly. Su Xueli had never stacked thatch before, but Wei Mingshen was an expert. He directed her on how to place the thatch, and she did exactly as he said.
After unloading the cartload of thatch, they stacked it into a round haystack in the shed, and the two of them sat inside to rest and drink water.
Su Xueli felt apologetic about her father's attitude towards her earlier, and said, "Ming Shen, I'm sorry my father scolded you like that earlier. I apologize on his behalf."
Wei Mingshen said dismissively, "Why are you apologizing for him? It's normal for him to scold me. I'm not his son-in-law anymore, yet he's still looking for his daughter. I'd be angry too. That's why I came back after he left. I'll just avoid him in the future."
At this point, Su Xueli became worried: "My father just gave me an order that I'm not allowed to have anything to do with you anymore, so we won't be able to do straw weaving together anymore."
Wei Mingshen frowned and said, "This is really an accident, it wasn't in our plan. But your father won't come to watch you every day, will he? I'll just avoid him for now."
Su Xueli said, "You can dodge the first day of the month, but you can't dodge the fifteenth."
Then he thought, "Hmm, if you work for me for another month, I can earn the money. Just one month is enough to fool me."
A hint of disappointment flashed in Wei Mingshen's eyes, but it disappeared in an instant. He said cheerfully, "It's okay, I'll just play guerrilla warfare with your dad. When he comes, I'll hide."
Su Xueli laughed, "You've really brought the scene to mind. It must have been quite a sight to see you hiding when my dad actually caught you."
She kept laughing as she spoke, her whole body shaking with laughter as she lay on her lap.
Wei Ming looked at her with a deep smile, his eyes practically overflowing with sweetness.
Seeing that she was still wearing a sweater, he said gently, "The sweat has dried now, put on your coat, don't catch a cold."
When he said that, she really felt cold, so she got up, grabbed her coat, and put it on.
When he remembered, he saw her turning over the soil and asked, "Why are you turning over the soil?"
Su Xueli said, "I'll turn the soil and plant flowers."
"The ground isn't completely thawed yet, is it even possible to dig?"
"It's not easy to dig, but I have nothing to do today, so I need to turn it over quickly. Maybe a southerly wind will come tomorrow and it will warm up soon. I'll buy some flower seeds at the market and sow them."
"Alright, I'll dig it for you." Wei Mingshen stood up.
Su Xueli was naturally happy to get a free source of labor.
The two of them, one digging and the other using a hoe to break up the soil, loosen it, and level it, were ready to sow the flower seeds.
"Wow, a whole plot of land is finished, it looks beautiful!" Su Xueli straightened up and praised the finished land.
"Woof woof woof..." came the barking of her wolfhound from outside the courtyard gate.
Su Xueli immediately tensed up and hissed at Wei Mingshen, "Quick, something's up!"
Wei Mingshen leaped into the house.
Su Xueli dropped her tools and ran out to scout the enemy's situation. She breathed a sigh of relief when she saw her mother.
She exclaimed, "Mom, you've come! Oh dear, you've brought so much stuff. You might as well move the whole house here."
Liu Fengying had things hanging on the handlebars of her old-fashioned bicycle, things draped over the crossbeam, things strapped to the back seat, and her big yellow dog following behind.
Liu Fengying saw Su Xueli and asked, "Who's here?"
